Finally I found another LX200 that the gears sound just like mine! NARLY!! But It works Most Excellent! Would changing the gears from Plastic to Brass help in the grinding noise? Please advice. Star Hunter
You don't have to be anywhere close to having that kind of money to own one of these. I currently own two, a 12" LX200 and an 8" LX200. I've had four of them over the past 11 years.
You can buy a 8" LX200 for $1,000 -- I just did.
Keep in mind, the LX200 series is no longer in production and cost a lot less than what they did new. My first was the 12" LX200, purchased in 1998 for $4,995.
A good CCD imager will run a couple of thousand to $11,000. It all depends on what you want to do with it.
I purchased my 12" LX200 and tore the whole thing down for a rebuild...by tore down I mean all apart. Sandblasting and powder coating, repairing electronics...etc. The 8" LX200 I just bought I got because it's small and much lighter than the 12". It's easier to pack up and take somewhere. The 12" will eventually be mounted in a rooftop observatory.
The one shown here is 12" (currently goes used for $1,600 or so)
Most expensive... Depends entirely on size. A good mount such as the Paramount ME will run you about $14,000. A large R/C (Ritchey Criton) can go anywhere from $9,995 to $54,000.
There are a few (and I mean few) people that I personally know that have equipment like that. Usually they get a loan from the bank and are EXTREMELY serious about astronomy and primarily use it for imaging.
It can be a very expensive hobby. Figure you'll eventually buy a few high quality eyepieces. Those can run a few hundred each. You DON'T have to spend thousands on a camera. If you're just starting out, use a Digital SLR camera like a Canon (20D, 30D, 40D or 50D).
It's like radio controlled hobbies. The model might only cost $50...but the radio, fuel, electric starter, starter battery and everything else will run hundreds.
Have a look around. You'll find that everyone there is helpful and very kind. I'm on there...I think under the same name as I have here on YouTube.
The fee is $12. It helps pay for site traffic and hosting. It also validates you as a person interested in purchasing a nice scope. Not many spammers will pay someone $12 to post junk to a site...so that's kinda why.
lol, yeah I dont think my neighbors in my crowded suburb street would appreciate that at 3 am in the backyard. Beautiful telescope, when I move to an approproiate area and get my own place a 10" LX200 is top priority for me.

If you become a member of Astromart, which I think now you have a onetime fee to join (and it's worth it).
Remember, this video shows the LX200 Classic from the 90's.
The older series, like this, will sell for $900 to $1,000 with basic accessories as it was shipped from the factory.
You can find these on Astromart under (Telescope - Catadioptric).
You can view listings w/o joining, but you can't see prices or respond to posts.
The older series are better IMO.
