My father was Tex Roe,a country music artist from New York. I have several letters from Pee Wee to him, along with Christmas cards sent from Pee Wee and his sweet wife. I am currently building a Facebook page and a website for my Dad's music. If I met Pee Wee as a child,I don't recall, but Dad spent a ton of time in Wheeling on the WWVA radio. He also became friends with Pee Wee when he traveled with his Road Tour.
What a wonderful talent Redd was. Just wish the Country Music Hall of Fame would do what's right and put him in. There'll never be another voice like that.............especially in today's music world!
The Tennessee Waltz was the first song that I learned at age 3. We watched the Pee Wee King show every Saturday night when I was young (in the 50's). They came to Ottawa, IL and we bought a book. Years later, Pee Wee and Redd Stewart appeared at Serena, IL, where I was the band director. Both autographed my copy of the Tennessee Waltz. I treasure the memory.
Though this way before my time I have such a deep appreciation for the musicianship on this. Just incredibly beautiful. Wish I had lived to see this first hand.
This sends tingles up my spine...so beautiful...gives me a lump in my gullet. My mother had (still has actually she's 68 tomorrow) a voice very similar to Doris Day or Patti Page and this is where these songs came to me: when we kids would go to bed she would get out these old records and play them and sing along to them. Thanks so much for posting this
My mother is a cousin of Redd and Gene I only met them when I was a baby so I am told they spent a lot of time at our house in Louisville, Ky. according to my mother., Thanks to Youtube I am seeing for the first time what I knew as a child thanks for posting. Dennis Flora

Pee Wee was Billy's Godfather. Super nice guy! (Sharon - Redd's daughter-in-law)

Great remembrances of Redd and the band. By any chance is the steel player Doug Smith?
