Cool video. One little interesting thing I'd like to say about nettle: You can use the seeds of Stinging Nettle like Ginseng. I've eaten the green seeds of nettle, and yes, they help fight fatigue and stress. It also boosts libido which is a plus. Amazing plant!
I simmer Jewelweed in water, no boiling! any ways make a strong strong gooey brew and pour it into ice cube tray and freeze for later use, Jewelweed is a jewel, because I'm highly allergic to poison oak and ivy, but it also stops burns from cooking actually reverses the blistering, and helps with most skin irritations. I just started a stinging nettle plot in my yard to harvest for my allergies.
@truemirror Now that is something new to me. I did not know nettles could help with allergies! Maybe you could do a video on how to prepare it, I'd love to learn a little more. The chemical in nettle that burns is the same chemical that's in fire ants. (formic acid ) I wonder if Jewel weed helps with ant & bee stings too?
@MrBudwv@truemirror I probably will someday make some herb videos, but right now my patch is too small, I'll most likely let it grow and harvest the tops for tea, once dried or cooked nettles are harmless, the formic acid is found in bee stings as well, and being studied for MS patients, Internal it is good for hay fever type allergies and makes a great spring tonic, good for arthritis and much more. I hope you keep up your videos, I'm really enjoying them.
@truemirror Thanks for the heads up. My Dad has some severe arthitis problems & thinks he would need to let leaf sting him as a counter irritant. but if I understand right we can give him a strong tea & do just as good.
@MrBudwv yep a strong tea or tincture once or twice a day, should do him good, though stinging the daylights out of him might be more fun to watch. : ) hehe.
Actually you might also want to check into teasel root tincture, it is very good for inflammation, but if you have lymes, the first few doses might cause more pain because of the kill off, in that case his arthritis might be caused by lymes. Just depends on how much he wants to get better.
@truemirror No Lymes that I know of. He worked as telephone Lineman for years until the top of a pole broke off. Degenerative disc disease runs in the family but, his injury made it show up very early. God bless you for the tip.
@MrBudwv yw, sorry to hear of such a scary accident, but glad you still have your dad with you. We have to share the knowledge, I hope you continue to make your videos, When I watch them, It takes me outside when I can't get out myself. Keep up the great work.
Heh, cool. I figured you were gonna talk about jewel weed. Great stuff, man. Great info. The nettle you had looked like Laportea Canadensis (wood nettle). Is that correct? I see some of that around here but I see more of the Urtica dioica. I read that the wood nettle has more severe stings?
Another excellent vid, man. Keep 'em coming. I'm learning a lot.
@bindlestitch1 There is more coming on Jewelweed. i have 2 kinds of nettle around the house. wood nettle has stinging hairs on the stem & field nettle has them on the leaf. These are field nettles. There is wood nettle on up the mountain.
