That's what "sampling" means. Haven't you ever looked at the liner notes of a classic hip-hop album? Credit is given for every little piece borrowed, and royalties payed. The best example I can give is Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique. Samples upon samples. A fantastic record.

Except that John was in the midst of a heroin addiction that nearly killed him, leaving Dave Navarro to run rampant over the band. Anthony's addiction got bad around that time too, and the music suffered because of it. Still some great songs on the album (Walkabout, Tearjerker et. al.) but not their best by a long shot.
