Every musician is entitled to their own interpretation and imitation. I wouldn't say she ruined it rather than she may have fallen short in emotionally portraying what Marcus Mumford intended when he wrote this song.

I adore Mumford and Sons, and I love their version. But I also love this. It's a completely different interpretation of the song. I was listening to the Sigh No More album and looked up covers for this song because I fell in love with it, and I found this. Although it's not as good as the original, in her defense, it's hard to convey the deep, cutting emotion of it. I think it's beautiful in it's own way, and she doesn't ruin it.

I feeel like she's forcing the words. She has a great voice. But I just don't think this song is for her. Mumford & Sons have a very different musical style & I think it'd be extremely hard to make a cover of one of their songs. This is still beautiful and taylor has a great voice. There's obviously no way to compare to Marcus Mumford's voice, the way he sings it has incredible emotion and feeling and beauty, it just can't be beat. But Taylor's voice is pretty, and soft, and it's a great cover, but after you hear the original, nothing compares haha. In my opinion.

I hate covers that are pretty much straight up covers! Same instrumental and everything...where's the creativity? Was hoping for something different as her voice would be great for this song but this is just a copy version with her singing over Marcus instead.

Marcus has this intensity that can't be replaced.
The intensity is one (of the many) of the things that makes the song, and M&S, so good.
She is lacking a lot of intensity and soul, that's why I don't like it.
I've never been a fan of her voice, but this video was suggested to me by a friend, so I had to watch it.
Like I said, it's probably because I just can't stand Taylor's music.

I feeel like she's forcing the words. She has a great voice. But I just don't think this song is for her. Mumford & Sons have a very different musical style & I think it'd be extremely hard to make a cover of one of their songs. This is still beautiful and taylor has a great voice. But I just don't think it's for her.

This is my first time listening to this, and wow... she just kind of ruined it. There was so much emotion in the original, and she just killed it. She simplified it way too much, and she has absolutely no feeling in her voice.
Just my opinion. :/

I think she makes it too soft. The original goes from somewhat soft to more powerful. I don't think she's very good at that.

There's obviously no way to compare to Marcus Mumford's voice, the way he sings it has incredible emotion and feeling and beauty, it just can't be beat. But Taylor's voice is pretty, and soft, and it's a great cover, but after you hear the original, nothing compares haha. In my opinion.

What exactly is the crap America produces, may I ask?Just because their a British band doesn't mean they hate America, or any other country for that matter. I think it's true they she didn't do better than the original, but I think thats true for basically every song, ever. The people who wrote the songs preformed them with the most heart, after all.

My generalizations of the American mainstream music, simply America is responsible for Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift & repetitious rap & not to mention the newest Spears singles WHICH do make Taylor triumph. It's not horrible. Obviously it isn't going to be the same when someone covers a song. She made it into her style; that's what a cover is. Original will always be better though.

okay so i would have been okay with it if she had done it WELL..... but she doesnt have the raw edge that mumford does with it...... its like..... the grain in his voice is what makes the song amazing.... her sweet innocent softness just doesnt work with the song AT ALL..... she's better off sticking to what she does already.

I hate covers that are pretty much straight up covers! Same instrumental and everything...where's the creativity? Was hoping for something different as her voice would be great for this song but this is just a copy version with her singing over Marcus instead.

If she put a little more force into the appropriate parts, it could be a pretty great cover. She just stayed around the same tone the whole time.
I mean, I love both Taylor & Mumford, but obviously the original is more emotional & the instruments in general are amazingg.

sorry but this is totally different from the orriginal version. this version is haunting and beautiful and as its from taylor, a girl, it gives it a completely new perspective. theres no comparison to be made because they are different. I love taylor swift, and i love her for covering this amazing song!
