You miss the point listening to the Brains. I against I was so far ahead of its time in contrast to what was going on at that time. The same thing as God of Love. When people were clinging on to their flannels and stocking caps at that time the Brains were totally going the other way musically and sonically. When you line their records up you can see a distinct shift in their style, an evolution. Isn't that the mark of great artists? That they grow? Do any of the bands now try to do that?...

God of Love "ahead of it's time"? Interesting. I remember being hyped about it when it came out in '95, sure, but, it didn't leave as much of a lasting impression on me as did, say, Quickness. THAT one still gets plenty of action on my turntable. I guess I'm one of the (apparently) few who never warmed to seeing "Produced By Ric Ocasek" on a Bad Brains LP. Never cared much for Rock For Light, either. Have always wondered how GOL would've sounded with the Saint or Rubin instead.

Yeah, TruthFan, the hell you been? Ha! Hey, better late than never. I highly recommend their albums "Quickness" and "I Against I". Also, if you can find it, H.R. the lead singer had a side project called H.R. or Human Rights for years. The Human Rights self-titled CD is worth the purchase if you can find it. Released on SST Records around 1987 or so.

The only album I know of with a predominance of reggae is the Human Rights album I referred to (SST Records CD 117). Reggae influences can be found here and there on all of their albums, especially the early works like Rise, Rock for Light, and their self-titled debut. Sorry, can't really pinpoint one single Bad Brains album with consistent reggae sounds. The last song on Quickness is called "The Prophets Eye" and is just an excellent piece of reggae song writing and influence.
