I don't understand the dissing and contrasting it with older stuff. This song is musically valid on many levels. A fine example of "it's not the notes you play...". Unless you're a nerve damaged speed-wanker, it should move you. Uniquely funky.
yeah, this ain't such a good album. great reggae songs, but the rest...the lyrics were especially half-assed. i still like it, but some things just aren't very debatable.
H.R. looks SOOOOO different compared to their hardcore days. This may not be as good as their hardcore, but I can dig it. And that solo is fucking awesome.
exaggerated piss take on the hype of one hit wonders of corored vinyl 10" & 7" ned's atomic dustbin, e.m.f. jesus jones, limp bizkit, link'n park & maroon five what? High fives for keeping the core Bad Brains fans uprising is true.
Damn, that is a nice guitar riff, trying to look up the tabs. When I do, "for the love of god" is all that comes up by Steve Vai. If anyone knows the riff, message me please or reply to the comment.
You miss the point listening to the Brains. I against I was so far ahead of its time in contrast to what was going on at that time. The same thing as God of Love. When people were clinging on to their flannels and stocking caps at that time the Brains were totally going the other way musically and sonically. When you line their records up you can see a distinct shift in their style, an evolution. Isn't that the mark of great artists? That they grow? Do any of the bands now try to do that?...
God of Love "ahead of it's time"? Interesting. I remember being hyped about it when it came out in '95, sure, but, it didn't leave as much of a lasting impression on me as did, say, Quickness. THAT one still gets plenty of action on my turntable. I guess I'm one of the (apparently) few who never warmed to seeing "Produced By Ric Ocasek" on a Bad Brains LP. Never cared much for Rock For Light, either. Have always wondered how GOL would've sounded with the Saint or Rubin instead.
@Fakename70 Yea I gotta admit this album wuz a depressing mess, most of the trax including this one sounded incredibly uninspired like, 'let's just record this and get it over with'. I did catch the tour after this though, HR wuz noticably sedated but the band wuz on perfect point!
@slopoke2112 bAD bRAINS were the best and still are! Show me anything more original and individual group progressing and pushing Jah LOVE;Hard, Loud, and in you face, yet Peace and Love at the same time.
bands cant play the same music for 20 years. they have to progress, most of the time, its more towards the popular music so they can stay in the light.
This song is pretty much crap, their old punk stuff was soooo much better. Rog suck a penis stop trying to make black people look so important. I'm not a racist but this black people started art and music stuff pisses me off. Think about it for 2 seconds and you'll see how stupid you are.

Yeah, TruthFan, the hell you been? Ha! Hey, better late than never. I highly recommend their albums "Quickness" and "I Against I". Also, if you can find it, H.R. the lead singer had a side project called H.R. or Human Rights for years. The Human Rights self-titled CD is worth the purchase if you can find it. Released on SST Records around 1987 or so.
The only album I know of with a predominance of reggae is the Human Rights album I referred to (SST Records CD 117). Reggae influences can be found here and there on all of their albums, especially the early works like Rise, Rock for Light, and their self-titled debut. Sorry, can't really pinpoint one single Bad Brains album with consistent reggae sounds. The last song on Quickness is called "The Prophets Eye" and is just an excellent piece of reggae song writing and influence.
I love this. Just learned of this group today. Damn where have I been?? I have been listening to P.O.D. lately and now I know who influenced them. My goodness, it pays to do some research. Thanks for posting this.

i dont know what some of you people are talking about bad brains are punk they were around when dead kennedys ,circle jerks and many more were around they were one of the the bigest influence in punk
the 00's harcore are not at all good but there is some great group:nine elenven,m-sixteen,poison heart...(sorry tey are french and belgian hXc group '^^)
my friend told me about this band and i hear that they were seriously influential to the hardcore, punk and metal scenes but you never see them in any documentaries of the genres...
Sometimes a band is so good and so influential , nothing has to be said.Example, Jackass uses The Minutmen's song Corona as an intro to the show. Most of those in the know get that a band like that was badass.Look at the styles as well.Korn , Deftones , and others from that genre resemble Bad Brains in style and look.Dreadlocks, soft spoken singing into ferocious growl.Living Color played their songs ,too.
Ok sadfuk, Name one song that is anti-gay. Don't say, "Don't Blow Bubbles" because that song is anti-heroin. They are not haters. If people want to be gay go ahead just don't do it around me, and I'm sure H.R. and the rest of the band will agree with that.

okay... whatever... truce... it was a political comic... ;p and i wasnt talking shit, i was stating my opinion.. nicely, actually.. so... chill...(wow that word is old)
well its his opinion but you really should do some reserach... this is probly the best hardcore band in the world.... but they expiritmented with reggae from what i herd and their new sound is a mixture of things....
you say you know about Punk but you probably think that bands like green day or good charlotte or simple plan or senses fail or some band like them are Punk but there not they are no where near PUNK.
actually.. i dont think they are punk. they're POP punk. this is punk..i just dont like it. the ramones is punk. i like that punk. im sorry that i dont like this.
Bad Brains are definitely not a pop punk band. They're...I don't know how to describe them, a hybrid of hardcore, hard rock, and reggae. But not pop punk.
I don't understand the dissing and contrasting it with older stuff. This song is musically valid on many levels. A fine example of "it's not the notes you play...". Unless you're a nerve damaged speed-wanker, it should move you. Uniquely funky.

okay... whatever... truce... it was a political comic... ;p and i wasnt talking shit, i was stating my opinion.. nicely, actually.. so... chill...(wow that word is old)
anamericanidiot101 4 years ago
nicley would of been along the lines of "well, i'm not really into these guys that much." not"sorry for those who like these guys."
omothertrucker 4 years ago
i didnt mean, i feel sorry for them, i meant that sorry for what im about to say.... misunderstanding there, sorry.
anamericanidiot101 4 years ago
well its his opinion but you really should do some reserach... this is probly the best hardcore band in the world.... but they expiritmented with reggae from what i herd and their new sound is a mixture of things....

you say you know about Punk but you probably think that bands like green day or good charlotte or simple plan or senses fail or some band like them are Punk but there not they are no where near PUNK.

Bad Brains are definitely not a pop punk band. They're...I don't know how to describe them, a hybrid of hardcore, hard rock, and reggae. But not pop punk.

back in the early 80's they were part of the hardcore punk community. take their song "the big takeover" for example
