I grew up in Montreal, and even though I lived in the suburbs I could get on a bus or two and be on the Metro system which could get me almost anywhere if I transferred to another bus from a metro station. ..
I could even go downtown by taking one bus and transferring to a train... I missed that when I got to Victoria, BC and have always had a car while living here...
That Metro map shows an infrastructure that puts Montreal's to shame...
the 5:30 start up is such an ass-kick after a long night. i did 2 saturdays in a row of an all nighter. the GOOD thing about seoul is...there are so many things to do that you will find something to do to pass the time. bars stay open late...if that's not your deal, see a late night movie, get some coffee, get some dinner, play billiards, go to a DVD room...etc. but damn the sometimes 1 1/2 hour ride back to incheon woninjae station kicks my BUTT
I rarely go to Detroit anymore (less than an hour away), partly because of the lack of public transportation. And worse yet, once you get in, it's harder than hell to find your way out if you're not very familiar with the city.
Very true! The Seoul subway system is huge, cheap and easy to use even for those who speak no Korean. Line 2 can get pretty damn crowded and stinky during rush hour though ;)
I love this new teaching in Korea series of videos!
Before I moved to Switzerland to take up my PhD I gave away all my house content to charities. I down sized to 5 boxes! It was the most cathartic thing I have ever done. We emotionally attach to so many unnecessary things. When we leave those behind, there are always alternatives. Swiss transport is fabulous too... I would never dream of driving here!
so I'm interested in teaching english at korea. just wondering which recruiting agency you went through

@bcmariano08 I used a company called DreamWorks when I came to Korea in 2008 and 2009. Then I found my own jobs.

We can learn a lot from many cultures... but Korea and Japan are the bomb when it comes to mass transit!

That's a shame! I love this public transport and I find it quite hard to bein a city without it.

I thought the Guangzhou metro was decent, however, upon watching this vid, the Seoul metro owns the Guangzhou metro.
Nice vid!
Peace.

we got a light rail and it is a step in the right direction.. but it sucks :D
bukshotaz 2 years ago
Yeah, I've ridden that 'train' - it is a sad excuse for mass transit and will never do much for the valley.

I took the KTX to Busan this weekend.
So quiet, fast, and efficient. We reached a top speed of 298km/h at points.
Recommended.

Ah yes.. the KTX is a great system. Really gets you around!

Thanks Kevin!
Yeah, Line 2 (green) can get busy throughout the day. I remember riding line 1 (dark blue) once and having to stand for an hour before it eased up.

DAM!!! Your subway system OWNS ours, here in the district. Thanks to that pic, I now know my way all over Korea!
Thanks!!!
