Dark? As far as I know, she is believed to have been the goddess of harvest and witchcraft (witchcraft in a positive way, like... wicca).

I think that Masha blended a bit of Marena and a bit of Mara when she wrote this song, since some of the lyrics would be more fitted for the latter, who is the goddess of death.

But, on the other hand, some claim that Mara and Marena were in fact the same.

Korpiklaani are great but for me their songs are too happy and pointless (beer, trolls, etc.). Arkona's music is much stronger, their lyrics often are sad (like this song) or very powerful (about wars, homeland, Russian history).

Pity you dont understand finnish. the english songs are too much about beer and vodka. But the finnish ones have depth beyond anything, mostly about spiritualism and nature, which is common to us all and so greater than the history of some single nation. plus korpiklaani communicates the ancient wisdom and magic with a smile on their face. so i have to disagree with u here. arkona is also great and maybe their message is deeper than i can tell since i dont understand a word they're singing :)
