It's because his settings are lame. If he actually set it properly, you'll hear it's a decent tone. Sure it's not tube, etc. etc. etc. but bear in mind Dime used Solidstate for most of his career (Randall at that). Check this dude's settings : For a scooped mid Metallica tone you need to scoop your mids to round about the 9 o clock position, with higher bass than treble, also his counter is set horrible. It's a great amp, I played through a Randall tube and this, this sounded better.

I bought this used, just so I got something to play at before I buy my mesa! The overdrive channels are not much you can use, I actually thought I got ripped of and the speakers were blown! I use pedals tho, and as long as I have them in the clean channel everything works great! I recommend this amp, If you buy it for the same reason I did, just to have something to play on while you save up money for something else.

I have spent many many hours on this amp just to dial in one great overdrive tone, it will never happen what you are hearing is exactly what you will get, this amp looks impressive and the clean is decent, I didnt get this amp for clean,It sounds truly horrible, good thing I got it on sale for $229, how i now use it, clean channel with a tiny bit of reverb, and i run my tribute dime distortion through that, and then it sounds pretty acceptable.

I know . I was just not impressed with the Tone of this Kirk Hammett Randall. We all know it has to sound better than a Line 6, its just that you would think after the mTS series, and George Lynch Mods that Randall has done this Amp would kick ass. Nothing, and I mean Nothing Beats a Mesa Boogie QUAD Preamp into a SimulClass 2:90 through a Rectifier Cabinet. You have 4 totall independant KICK Ass all RAW Tube TONR that is very interactive.
