Hey, so I'm thinking of going to Lombok from Bali sometime in November this year. I'm looking to save money so is this public ferry really worth taking?? I mean how long did it take for you?? Is it bearable?
Not a lot of other options. I've been on it 6 or 8 times during different trips to Indo, last about 9 years ago unfortunately so couldn't tell you the current price. Averages 4and 1/2 hours usually pretty calm water and they always seem to get there. Take water and nibbles though, some boats have a canteen others don't but locals always have fruit for sale on board.
Have flown once Lombok to Bali about 20 minutes and I think about US$50. Is a hydrfoil/fast ferry from Sanur to Lembar but last time I was there it wasn't running due to lack of people after the Lombok riots.
This trip is a piece of piss really, I've been on a lot of boats there and the 17 hour overnight trip from Sumba to Flores was a killer - there are a lot worse ones as well.
