  • I love Shanghai.

  • Watch this, extremely short 747 takeoff in history

    watch?v=sQCZYKcN1k4

    :D

  • Very nice! I loves the 747!

  • nice... you can see the slats on the leading edge of the wing, this allows the wing to generate more lift at higher angles of attack, it also delays seperation of the airflow over the wing allowing a steeper angle of attack before the wing stalls.

  • I never knew United flew to Shanghai.

  • 5 Stars! Check out my videos!

  • hey i got a question: how i can diference the PW of the GE engines? i can´t find it

  • biggest difference to tell is the sound.. the GE makes a very high pitch sound at about 70%N1 the PW has a ghostly low pitch idle sound.. and the cone of the GE is like an ice cream cone.. straight except wih an opening.. the PW's cone is wide then becomes narrow.. if that makes any sense lol

  • Wow!! Shiney blue things under the wing!!

  • This may have been a heavy takeoff, but damn that climb is sure fast!!!

  • I love it when they throttle the engines and it pins you back in the seat. The acceleration of such huge machines is amazing.

  • That's the best part of takeoff.

  • I heard that

  • quite a late take-off roll. he didn't have too much runway left. seems to get airborne at 00:50 and there seems to be no more runway at 00:54.

  • Probably a heavy packed flifht or something.

  • and/or hot weather

  • Plus lots and lots of fuel for transpacific.

  • pudong airport's runway is short compared to other airports, like san francisco.

  • Where did you get this info? All except one of pudong's runways are longer than sanfrancisco. Pudong's runways range from 11,154ft. to 12,467ft. At SFO they range from 7,500ft. to 11,870ft.

  • 747's are so big it takes time for them to get to the right speed

  • I know, I've flown on 747s lots of times. Still, the length of the take-off run depends primarily on the passenger and fuel loads. This plane is clearly fully booked and filled up for a very long journey. An empty 747 can take off in 20 seconds.

  • A 747 also has a much higher takeoff speed than most airplanes (180 mph)!

  • Also depends on the altitude at which the airport is situated.

  • looks like a full load

  • United Airlines use Pratt & Whitney 4062 Engines on the 747s! Great Video!

  • hey bro! cool vid, what was your seat number?

  • Listen to those engines revving up and roaring. Only been in a 747 once when I was 6. It was a Malaysian Airlines one.

  • Great film man. The Pratts are my favorite engine on the 744, and I love the UA 744s in particular. I'm guessing the 744 you were on must have been fully booked in additional to having a full fuel load, as that's about your typical 747 takeoff. love Boeing giants...closest I've ever flown to it is an AA 777. Did the UA 744 you were on have PTVs?

  • no UAL 744 has PTV's in econamy. :(

  • Wow, that seems like a long take off, but nicely done :)

  • Looks like a very warm day, that would explain the length of the takeoff run. That airport looks enormous, and very new.

  • MAybe because it was a long takeoff perhaps? Also was probably due to it likely being fully booked on top of a full fuel load. 747s when they are fully loaded normally take between 50 seconds to a minute to lift off. However, the advantage they have over other planes is that the 747 is one of the fastest commercial jetliners flying today.

  • pw4000 looks similar to the ge cf6

  • those engines are ge cf6s not pw4000s

  • Those are Pratts believe me. There is a distinct difference between the GE's and Pratts. Those are Pratts. If you look up the engines that power United's 744s, it will say PW.

  • i no i didnt see the single line on the cone, only pratts engines have that

  • Lufthansa 744s are GE-powered. Go look at those engines and then tell me if they are the same as the U.A. 744s. Those are Pratt engines. The GEs have a longer nacelle and the inlet is very distinctive. Virgin Atlantic and Lufthansa use the GEs...look up photos of their 744s and compare their engines to those used by the UA and NW 744s. You need to study your engines harder.

  • Lovely shot of the terminal at Pudong whilst the plane is thundering down the runway.

  • PW4000 is the most powerful....

    Most quiet too

  • What kind of engines does this plane in particular use?? I notice it's not as loud as some other 747-400s.

  • veven though more powerful than the R&R and the GE variants...these PW 4000 are a lot more silent than the other varients

  • you lot on here are fuckin gimps ,and know sum shit facts lol

  • business is on upper deck. it use to be like that tho, were first use to aquire the upper deck.

  • love that video i always take it to go back to the states and always sit in the front

  • freaking scary

  • i love the 747 every time i fly to paris to see my cousins we always sit in first class on the top deck.

which is very nice u should sit up there some time

  • ual doesnt operate a 747 to paris either does it have first class on the top deck

  • UA's first class is on the bottom deck.

Business class is on the top deck.

  • wrong...

  • Look who's talking...

  • On both, dude.

  • Business class isn't THAT small XD

    first class is..

    oops

  • Business class on United Airlines' 744 is located on the upper and lower decks, consisting of 73 seats, though this is going to be reduced to do installation of new lie-flat bed seats.

First class is ONLY located on the lower deck, in the NOSE section, and consists of 14 Flat Suites. Again, they will redo the First Suites also and I think the capacity will be reduced to 12.

Currently there's 260 Economy, 73 Business, and 14 First Suites on United 747s.

  • I wish to fly in that section someday o.o

sounds like a good time :D

  • Note at how approximately 45 seconds into the video the winglets change position as lift sets in (drooped prior to that). Lots of fuel indeed!

  • nice, i really love pudong airport.

...take a look at my videos, too! ;-)

  • Almost a full 1 minute long take-off run. The best onboard take-off footage I have seen so far.

  • Awesome

  • was that taken from seat # 42K ?

  • nope that was seat 6A. in a 747-400, best seats are 6-8 in business class. first class can't see the wing/engines enough

  • BA, I guess?

  • United Airlines

  • No, United Airlines. You can tell by the engines: these are Pratt & Whittney's, whereas BA exclusively uses Rolls-Royce engines on their 747's. :-)

  • Yep, thanks. Either way, a very long takeoff run, more than 50 secs. Must have been full house.

  • I LOVE AIRPLANES

  • I cannot stop watching this! Great video...

  • I love watching that wing generate lift just before rotation.

  • i know its awsome

  • Nice vid! I think you were in first class...

  • business class. business class seats 8-10 are the best for viewing the engines in a 747-400. First class is too far forward

  • Great view of the engines. If only they were RB211-524H/T-s

  • P&W 4060

  • P&W

  • Fab video. What a great seat to have! Good job holding the camera still as well.

  • Gorgeous.

  • Well done!

  • 747s kick ass

  • haha i think i was on dat plane!

  • Just love the sound of those engines.

  • You are so lucky to have that view in the plane. The image is not so good but you can feel the emotion to see the turbine and the wings moving with the air. Great job continue doing this!!

  • Thank you so much. A brilliant video
