The last line about "Bless You" is that in China and the orient was when a person sneezed it was the devil or bad spirit trying to escape from your body and someone hearing the sneeze would say something similar to in meaning as Bless You. The "bless You" came back with Marco Polo I believe and that's how the Christan world started saying God Bless You or just Bless You! Again another MORON California teacher teaching kids with out the proper tools.. like a FREAKING WORKING BRAIN!

@rolloverriderpgr Are you trying to say the teacher doesn't have a working brain because he's not religious and probably believes it should have no part in school? How can you teach someone something that has ZERO evidence backing it up? It's equivalent to telling kids that Santa is real and slides down your chimney at night with a huge sack of gifts. Having faith in something that is not proven to exist only shows how truly and weak and gullible ones mind is, like a toddler.

That is NOT what the teachers on the coast were hired for, but to teach them what's in the curriculum, not his/her freaking religious OR political beliefs/disbeliefs! Actually he should be fined or taken off the job for overstepping his boundaries with this crap! His JOB is reading writing and arithmetic, and not or doing the ACLUs job!

Actually the first recorded use of a "blessing" of some sort for a sneeze is much older. Recorded by Pliny the Elder in 77 AD. So it did not come from the Orient by way of Marco Polo. While it was recorded several times on ancient writings, no one wrote down why. Please see snopes.com for the details.

@kubaniski The separation of church and state was not about keeping religion out of government. It was about keeping government out of religion. You cannot keep religion out of government, our beliefs are what makes us who we are. I say this as an Atheist. Our nation was founded by Protestant Christians seeking reprieve from Catholicized Europe. If the term "Bless you" offends you, you must have a serious problem with hating people who are wishing you well.

@kubaniski Our founding fathers, Jefferson, Washington, Adams, et al founded the United States as a secular nation. It isn't now and never has been a Christian nation. If you thought about it, you wouldn't want it to be.

@MrCook1227 The nation is not the state. The Federal government may not be overtly biased to one religious denomination or another, however the laws the government passes are based on the cultural values of the people who are overwhelmingly Christian.
