My son and I saw him in Norwich in Dec 2009. He did a workshop in the afternoon of the gig . He's such a nice friendly down to earth guy. We met him after the workshop and he was very polite and even allowed everyone stay for the sound check! The gig was just brilliant. He's a top guy and a fantastic guitarist!
I saw him live and he has this machine set up that increases the feedback the closer he put his hand to this thing; what do they call this machine? It was awesome
@zx1357 That's called a Theramin, Jimmy Page used it alot live with Led Zeppelin too, it was invented by a Russian scientist as a musical instrument, he used to do tours playing just the Theramin....I think at one point he tried to figure out if he could use it as a spying tool against the USA....pretty cool story behind it, check it out....
@justinsokoloski My guess is to not fuck up with settings and EQing on the pedals. Standing on dark stages often makes it hard to hit the pedal at the correct place ;)
@justinsokoloski it keeps his knobs consistent. So when he goes on tour and stuff... his knobs on his pedals wont get moved... so less fixing to do :) I want to do that with my gear... but I like to keep my knobs adhesive free :)
@rosoftse Thats cool too :) those are great devices :) sound bomb... i always wanted the g major on my board... as much as i cant afford it and have space for it haha some people are pedal people.. some are not :) thats how it is :)
@rosoftse I never sent you a private message LOL hahaha :)
Yeah i think money isn't issue for me because i like saving up for the things I want :)
I just love pedals and amps because Digital modeling can only do so much, right? I love analog and boosting already kinda driven amps with overdrive pedals and such :) I want to be the guy that stays simple his entire life :) guitar... pedal board... amps... DONE! lol I do love working with digital stuff though :)
I wonder if the tape on the knobs is just to keep the settings in place or to keep his tone a secret. His playing on these rundowns is giving me chills
@tinmansixtysix haha don't know why your comment would be flagged.... but thats badass! i always thought his tone sounded a little thick to be a strat half the time, but yea bonamassa really has a pretty clear cut johnson inspiration there. i dig.
@guitarsteve6190 Flagged? haha No, cause there's nothing offensive in it. I didn't even try to sound badass or anything, I just spoke my mind. EJ's own influences show in his playing -- Clapton, Hendrix, Beck -- but he very brilliantly incorporated that into his stuff. As for Bonamassa, you say inspiration I say rip off!!! LOL Cheers, man!!!
Eric played LPs early on, and a Flying V and an ES 335, which was the guitar he recorded "Zap" with. Most of the fat tones you hear on his first and second albums are not strat sounds.
Well I absolutely love Eric Johnson and I think there's actually too much of him in Bonamassa's playing. I don't think that's cool at all. I don't really hear his own signature, and when I wanna listen to Eric Johnson I listen to the man himself.
@TinManSixtySix When he improvises, it does sound just like EJ just with humbuckers. Joe's music is very distinctive to my ears. Regardless, EJ and JB are masters at guitar and are both amazing.
@LateNightShredder But you know, a lot of Eric's sound isn't his strat, even though the Strat's always been his main type guitar. You take the song "Zap" from his album "Tones" for instance -- it was recorded with a Gibson ES135. He played a Les Paul and a Flying V on "Tones" and "Ah Via Musicom", you know. Anyway, to my ears JB's stuff sounds like EJ's about 90% of the time. Sure he's good, you gotta be good to replicate EJ's stuff like that, but then again...
@TinManSixtySix lol you sir enjoy your eric johnson... i think bonamassa's alright, i mean you gotta give him credit for being able to achieve that kinda stuff but i could see where your coming from in that he doesn't seem to go very far past it lick wise, i dunno. All I know is i wish i could play that stuff, so i give it to him.

Quote: "It's only three knobs, how hard is it", he just doesn't want to try to remember these settings, good idea if you use a lot of pedals. Starting to think he might be human after all. He is also a fellow upstate New Yorker, for what that's worth.

TO cm0220ster
The Way Huge Pork Loin has 5 outside settings and 3 more internal settings that can be "tweaked" to fine tune your sound to your personal taste.
Joe was being totally honest about the settings on his device. He wasn't hiding anything, you have to fine tune the device.
I purchased one this weekend..it's no BULL!
I met him on St Paty's day..He's genuinely a GREAT guy and he's NOT full of himself..He signed my Les Paul and was very gracious. Thanks Joe!
