Such fucking amazing lyrics. I love the Pastels. I miss living in Glasgow, hanging out at Monorail... I'm twenty fucking years old, I'm too young to feel this nostalgic.
I once thought 'Up for a bit' was one of the best albums ever made, listening to this 20 years later, it still is. They should have been able to retire from the quality of this record. well crafted tunes ... cheers Mr and Mrs Pastel :-)
Provokatie, thanks-I was in high school when I use to request this by telephone at my friendly neighborhood college radio station-couldn't get enough of that foreign moody stuff in sunny Cali.
At the end of the song you can see Frances and Eugene kissing each other.. wow both bands amazing. by the ways the vaselines they going to show up at this month to play here in toronto ill be the for sure.
i bought the first pastels record i think it was called "heavens above"? about 1981? loved them love them now, does steven work or own a record shop in glasgow? he has got to be 48 at least, bet you the little fucker still looks about 25!!!!all my best wishes to a band that should a household name.XXXX
it was filmed on a bridge over the clyde in glasgow next to the main railway bridge from glasgow central station in galsgows city centre. the inside parts were filmed in the tenement hallway of otago street in glasgow in the block where brian superstar (the guitarist) lived which is also where the album insert to sitting pretty was photographed
I like this version of the song better than the one on the album 'Up for a bit with the pastels'. On the album its much slower. Anyone any idea why this is?
two versions were recorded at the same studio session and the band liked both so used one for the single version (above) and released the other on the album a few months later
I have a friend, [Not actually a friend, we're too shy for that. More like we would like to be friends] Who reminds me of Stephen. Very cute boys, they are.
I'm Sure The Pastels (from Glasgow) helped The VASELINES (from edinburgh) with their First Recording Studio Experience if not they are definetly connected in some way.
they are best friends! the vaselines first few records were released on 53rd & 3rd - stephen pastels record label. the video above is starring francis and eugene from the vaselines just when they got together. also stephen produced the vasleines first few records and eugene was also in the astels for about a year although all throgh the late 80s they always played gigs together and mixed band members
I was watching a live yo la tengo and I saw James from Yo la tengo wearing a Pastels t shirt. and I looked up the Pastels. Fucking GREAT!!!

She comes walking down the road
And I know that dogs won't bark
She comes walking up the stairs
She's tap-tap-tapping on my door
And she'll make those tears to know that it's a must
But I go blind and my mouth fills up with dust
Says she's open like a book
She's got everything I need
Even wants to take the time
To teach me how to read
