  • It's nice to see people, like you and your family, embracing the electric car lifestyle and using the sun to help charge it. I'm building my own electric car out of a fiat spider, and when thats done, I plan to keep on converting older cars to be my transport for the 21st century! Keep up the awesomeness and thanks for posting!!

  • I love this !

Those who complain that you are still making pollution via the coal-burning power plants that you get your electricity to charge your vehicle, don't seem to stop and think of the power they use for their homes ie Refrigerator (that runs 75% of the day/night), clothes dryer, oven/stove, and not to mention central air conditioning!... Plus they support "OPEC" which does not really help the United States of America!!

  • @thecrism1 - Thanks for the great comment!

  • you r so lucky if toyota and gm wernt so stupid we all could be driving the rave4 ev or any ev like the ev1 or the ford think.

  • @beyrc1998 - well, they weren't stupid in the business sense. Just in the "best for the world" sense. But then again, how many business are in business to save the world? Not the car companies... until just recently, apparently.

  • This car is so old, and has a 100 mile range. Nissan Leaf is brand new, and has a 100 mile range. oh we have progressed so far, lol.

  • @ekuwa69 - Well, there are definitely others ways to measure "progress" in EVs. We can make them go pretty far now... just depends on how much you want to spend. This car has "progressed" in that it is faster, quieter, more comfortable, has different trim levels and color/fabric options, is fast-charge capable, and has tons of wiz-bang bells and whistles. If you need range, there's a Tesla Roadster with your name on it! 100 miles was and still is the range sweet spot.

  • @darelldd what happen when you go on road trip or going wanna go somewhere like 100mile away? u gotta used a gas engine car ! lol for now.

  • @ekuwa69 The NIMH batteries featured here have been locked in a patent prison for ten years they would have been up to 600 miles by now.

  • @anarchosolar - yes, they've been locked in patent prison... but 600 miles is pushing it. We can make a car go as far as we want. You just have to decide how much you're willing to pay, and how much cargo room you want in what size of car. We'll have a 300-mile Li car soon enough.

  • I Like the video. Are those public charging stations still around? How much does it cost to charge from one? I bet as you drove by the gas station, the people filling up their Hummers and SUVs were jealous.

  • @mewtwo255200 - There are more public chargers today than there were when the video was made. They are all free, as the electricity cost is less than the cost to implement some way to take money! The typical Hummer driver isn't jealous because for the most part they don't even know these cars exist!

  • Im buying a leaf!

  • @Joshcom88 - excellent!

  • If Toyota brings back this car, i forgive them for acceleration problems :D...but they are idiots...probably be the best electric seller of this year...before Tesla come out....

  • U luky one...I want a car just like yours...

  • Yes, I do count myself as being lucky. I also have worked toward ensuring that EVs are available at the dealer lots... and finally that reality is on the near horizon. They'll be here soon, and for good this time.

  • Nice done Kyra!

  • You mean as compared to the plastic in gasoline cars that is totally overshadowed by the oil and gasoline that it comsumes? Or just as a stand-alone problem?

None of our issues exist in a vacuum. They must all be compared to the alternatives. We'll leave a foot print no matter how we travel... even if by foot of all things!

  • I you want to know more about why there are no cars like the RAV4EV being made today you should start by watching the film "Who Killed The Electric Car"

  • And if you are paying attention you'll see this very car, (and driver and daughter) IN that movie.

  • LoL, I have to come clean and admit that I saw the movie when it first came out but have not seen it since, maybe it's time rent it again and stoke the fires of indignation again.

P.S. I'll look for you guys this time : )

  • Been a while for me as well! You'll have to look close - I'm only in the lens for about three seconds. And my daughter is in the car behind tinted glass - so don't try TOO hard to find her. :) Our car is pictured driving away from one of the demonstrations at a Ford dealership in Sacramento (though the activity and location are not mentioned in the film).

  • I bet Ford are really pissed off about getting rid of all those ford thinks they had out there : )

  • Ford actually could not have kept the Thinks here - they were only here with a temporary safety waver. When the waiver expired, they began to crush the cars. After enough protests, the cars were returned to Norway where most are still in use.

  • And by that point they didn't want to keep em anyway because CARB had been subverted by big oil and the car makers working in unison against them, still had Fored kept faith with the EV they would have been in a killer position when oil prices went through the roof.

  • Dear darelldd i registered you ofcoarce but guess what you dont show up in my list and when i klick on it again it says i am already subscribed to you... isnt that strange...

  • Odd. Out of my hands though, I'm afraid. I find that sometimes it takes youtube a few hours or days to sort thihgs out. Give it a bit and see if it just starts working.

  • yeah i hope so.. the dutch news channel totaly lied about electric car technologie today and it Pi**** me of. they told

1# you need 330 for power

2# you cant drive long distances (not more than 200KM)

3# The poser stations cant handle the demand

4# electric cars cost more than 1 milion euro's to buy (this one did it for me grrrrr)

5# electric cars cant move 4 people at once without huge distanse loss.

i wonder wht they want to tell us here.

    greetings maiky

  • Yup, we've been hearing crazy stuff like that forever. The only thing we can battle the lies with is... reality.

  • i have been looking in to buy a electric car here in the netherlands but that is close to no exsisting or you will pay the jacpot. and than there is converting a car.. wel i am no hero with electrics nor can i weald metals >.> do you know waht i can do?

  • Your best bet is to yell loud and clear that you'd like the car makers to build the car we want and need. My whole push is not for conversions, and not for million dollar cars. It is for every-day EVs made in mass quantities. Visit your local dealerships and tell them you've got money to spend, and won't spend it until they start selling the car you want to buy. Write to government officials and tell them what we need and why. The car makers have told us too long that they only make what we want

  • oke i will we have a huge car boulevart near so ill take this up close and personal ^.-

Green energy and cars (spesialy motorbikes) rule ^.^

  • This makes so much sense. To bad our society would just rather stick to the same old dirty habit.

  • GM and the federal gov sued the state of CA to severely modify the ZEV mandate. The moment that went through, everybody stopped their EV programs. And now they're struggling to get back into them.

  • The only reason they had them was because Cal law mandated the auto manufactures make and sell them. You should be asking WHY did Cal reverse its law on electric cars. Who forced Cal to change the law Chevron?? Chevy or BOTH. Tesla is doing it NOW because it is done with PRIVATE FUNDING. if they can do it now why is it chevy and ford can not chevy has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on this.

  • The future was yesterday!!! GOD, i hate texaco/chevron....

  • I want one. Is this still possible to get?

  • The Rav4EV was available to the public for about eight months in 2002. And they were only available from 25 dealerships - all in CA. The only way to get one since 2003 is to buy one used, I'm sorry to say.

  • Great car indeed.

How much $ would it cost to buy a used EV Rav4?

  • They cost about $10-25k MORE on the used market than they cost new in 2002. (That's what you get with huge demand, and severely limited product!) One comes up for sale on Ebay every couple of months or so.

  • EV IS THE FUTURE !!!

  • And as soon as we get back to where we were 12 years ago, we'll be there!

  • cool vid! long live the rav4EV!!!

  • Great vid. Thanks.

  • This is great! How do I get one?!

  • You get a wad of cash, and start visiting your favorite car dealers. Tell them you'd love to buy a car, but won't be spending your money until they offer one that you can plug in. The car makers say that they've just been building what we want. Well, it is time for them to pay attention to what we want.

  • Great video, Thanks.

  • Great video. Were looking at the future here.

  • Yeah, the future from ten years ago!

  • how much are those PV panels?

  • My system cost about $10k five years ago when I put it in. For that $10k, I'm covering all my household usage AND the fuel for our main vehicle to the tune of 11,500 miles/year. My system paid back the moment I turned it on. Neat, eh?

  • Want!!!!!!!111!!!!11111!

  • Great video Kyra Lee and Darell! Awesome that you've been trailblazing the PV+EV lifestyle for over a decade! I've got my PV, just need to complete my EV and say goodbye to the gas station.
