@bombarde1701a The movie itself actually says that this is the Auditorium Maurice Ravel and it is definitely not the Palais du Chaillot so I would say this was AFTER the organ was removed to Lyon.

This improvisation was recorded on October 26, 1977, by Bernard Maigrot. The next day, Oct 27, the organ was dedicated by Pierre Cochereau.

It's strange to think that if he were still alive he'd be only 85... as the legend he is, he seems almost ancient, part of a long lost era... being only 15, for me, this might as well have been a hundred years ago; it's interesting how I perceive the amount/value of time before I was. To think he was only 10 years and one month gone when I was born... something about him just seems so much more historic, I can't really comprehend it no matter how hard I try!

Dear codeman2008, it's maybe because he did the following tradition especially in improvisation of the great late 19th and early 20th centuries French organ school of Widor and Dupré until the late 20th, and 1984 the year of his death, or in fact getting time valueless and having up to date all this great tradition so close to us now in the 21st century. Let's be thankfull to him !

Dear Chamade216, this has to be in 1977 or just after because that is the year in which the ex-Trocadéro-Chaillot organ was installed in that newly built hall in Lyon.

Je suis bien content d'apprendre que cet orgue va bénéficier de travaux de restauration ainsi que d'une politique de concerts originale! :-) Comme quoi,il y a peut être encore un avenir pour l'orgue de salle de concert en France!...c'est à souhaiter! :-)

Pfff... que dire de plus si ce n'est que Cochereau était, reste, et restera à jamais LE Maitre de l'orgue, et L'organiste de Notre Dame de Paris.

Sans lui, cette tribune et cet instrument ne seraient pas ce qu'ils sont aujourd'hui...

Comme il nous manque...

Heureusement, il y a des organistes comme Pierre Pincemaille, dont j'ai été l'élève et l'assistant à la Basilique Saint Denis. Lui aussi, est un véritable génie de l'impro.

Ce qui est sùr c'est que si les grands organistes concertistes étaient un peu plus solidaires et avaient un peu plus le sens du bien commun,ils se mobiliseraient pour faire vivre et jouer cet Orgue de l'auditorium Maurice Ravel de Lyon!...Sinon il finira,comme toujours en France,par atterir dans une église! :-( Ce n'est pas de l'anticléricalisme primaire,mais il y a suffisamment d'orgues dans les lieux de cultes et trop peu dans les salles de concerts! C'est un fait hélas!

Et l'on aimerait beaucoup que cet instrument,un des rares orgue de salle de concert existant encore en France,serve plus souvent! Personnellement j'aimais bien celui de Radio-France,contrairement à beaucoup de gens. Quand il était bien joué,il sonnait magnifiquement(j'y ai ,entre autre, entendu Marie-Claire Alain dans un programme Buxtehude,Bach!) Au moins ça changeait de l'atmosphère des églises! D'où provient ce document rarissime et ô combien précieux? ;-) ;-)

Il a déjà bien repris du service depuis trois saisons, sous les doigts d'un organiste qui n'est pas des moindres : Thierry Escaich. Et accueillera en avril la finale du premier Concours international d'orgue de Lyon, en attendant un relevage cet été. C'est un début !

L'orgue construit pour le Palais du Trocadéro par Aristide Cavaillé-Coll en 1878 et restauré, agrandi, électrifié pour le Palais de Chaillot par Victor Gonzalez en 1938 et apres plusieur années en storage installé dans l'auditarium Maurice Ravel. Quel plaisir de revoir Pierre Coucherau improvisé sur cet instrument, Un autre 5 étoiles.

That organ is the much rebuilt organ originally installed in the Paris Trocadero in 1878, I believe.
