They hired the best, most expensive studio musicians in all of Hollywood for this score, and they still had to practice the hell out it to be able to play it. The trombone line in particular was so tough that those seasoned professional musicians who were playing it would take bets on which of them would flub any particular run through. One of the most technically difficult themes in all of tv history, never mind cartoon history.

Things I recall about JQ:

It did not start on Saturday morning. That was when it went into syndication. It was originally aired like the Flintstones, The Jetsons, and the Simpsons---as prime-time shows.

Wednesday evening, 7pm. Almost all of the original episodes had some killing in them, and it was years before they were determined suitable for Saturday cartoons. Today, they look pretty sexist, racist, and highly influenced by cold-war mentality.

Despite being 44 years old now, this cartoon is STILL one of the best cartoon series in the history of television. The only other series that compares is Batman TAS from the early 90's. Jonny Quest had GREAT stories, great animation, and legendary voice over actors like Vic Perrin, Mike Roads, and Don Messick. This series is still the best, and it still beats 99.999% of the terrible cartoons that have been on TV since the early 1960's- period. End of story!

Apparently the producers originally wanted to do an animated version of the old radio serial "Jack Armstrong, the All-American Boy." The hovercraft sequence was part of a test film for that project. When it fell through, "Jonny Quest" was created and some test film images were updated and used in the end credits.
