Well, there you go Ruth. Look at all those fantastic comments.
The thing about covers is you have to make them your own otherwise they're pointless - go listen to the original. A cover version should have something to add to thew original or say something about the person doing the cover for it to be meaningful.
A very meaningful cover, Ruth and a far better hat than the moggy head, thing.
@casetone2514 Hi Tones :-) Are you being horrible about my hat?! :-) I agree with you about making covers your own, imitation is just pointless. I think I'll do more covers now, now I'm feeling more confident. I'm learning some songs to sing to the old dears, they'll be my first live audience. Obviously, I can't sing my songs! :-) Thank you so much! :-) Hugs X
@UkeIndy Thank you so much, Lonna! :-) You've inspired me, my new ambition is to have an after-school ukulele group at my son's school. Seeing you singing with the kids made me wish I could do the same. :-) Hugs X
@UKISOCIETY Hi dearest Alan :-) Well, erm, something like "oh yes, nearly finished, can stop being serious and mess about now, yay! And damn, it's so hard to stick to lyrics and not add stuff as you go along." Probably other stuff too, the usual, you know, crazy stuff. :-D I was gonna stick my tongue out, then thought I'd better not. :-P How are you, and how are thing's going with the adoption? Been thinking about you. :-) Thank you :-) Hugs X
@ukeshale Hi Shane :-) 'Stunning vocals'?! I am working on my singing, I really appreciate any comment on it! :-) How are you? Thank you so much! :-) Hugs X
I really love this song, and the message that it gives. I can see that the singing lessons are working, I can tell the difference already! It's really good to hear a song that isn't strummed the same all the way through, makes you want to listen to the whole song.
@KenMiddletonUkulele Hi Ken :-) Your version is NOT pathetic! What are you on about?! :-) One of the most important things you've taught me is to make it varied, thank you. :-) It was half-chunking, I think. Joshing means teasing someone playfully. I am a josher. :-D I didn't think about timing, I think it's improved, and I did really enjoy performing it, despite being nervous because I really didn't want to completely mess it up. I'm really glad you liked it! :-) Thank you so much! :-) Hugs X
The reason your version is better than mine is because I did a straight copy of Dylan's version (I don't know why I did that) and you did your own version. Doing a straight copy takes a little bit of skill and zero imagination.
This is completely brilliant Ruth. Love the way you performed this . You took a song that I really dislike and made me like it, and the end made me want to give you a big hug :)
@UnluckyMum Hi angel :-) wow, can't believe I made you like the song! Well chuffed! :-) You're a sweetheart :-) How are you? Thank you so much! Hugs :-) X
@theBradlands Hi Brad :-) Yes, I am a josher, and very naughty and proud of it too. ;-D You didn't really expect me to be serious all the way through, did you? ;-D Thank you very much! :-) Hugs X
That was really nice, I know that I am guilty of doing covers that sound like 1/2 assed versions of the original. Your take on this was totally unique and a very Ruth version of Dylan, that is what made it so cool! I love the long pause before the last note at the end when you played the melody, like you were just going to leave it hanging without the last note.... then snuck it in.
I have never heard "Blowin' in the Wind" done this way... so separated from the time it was written and yet still relevant today... (with a little added zest, I would say!) The last note was brilliantly played, and, I might add, VERY RUTH! Thanks for making me smile!
@cadwalladee Hi Scott :-) Yes, I thought towards the end that I'd managed to remain (sort of) serious all the way through, so I decided to be mischievious ;-D I am very happy I made you smile!! That makes me smile! :-) I've achieved my goal :-) Thank you very much! :-) Hugs X
Hey Roofie - Sounds like life is well prioritised at the mo'. Nice version and some really great strummin'! Well you did the song justice and if somebody stumbles across it and thinks it's sh$*e I am sure another ten will trip over it and thinks it's a damned original version. Loved it.
@StubyStubyDoo Hi Stoowee :-D How are you? :-) Are you trying to wind me up putting 'cat strangler'? You know I disapprove of you calling yourself that! :-D Thank you so much! :-) Hugs X
The answer is blowing in the wind. What does that mean exactly? I have a feeling your kids will set the lyrics straight in the alternate version. Though you don't do covers, you did this very well.
The beautiful thing about covers that have bin covered as much as this one, is that it's a great opportunity to make it your own song, without messing it up. And you did ;)
cool !

Thank you Ruth. Your version is staggeringly good. It puts my pathetic Dylanesque version to shame.
I loved the strumming and the variety you put into it. No-one else is doing that, you know.
I even liked the "chunking". It seemed restrained and somehow appropriate. Just joshing (whatever that means).
Your timing was really brilliant. And, as someone else said, you look as if you are really enjoying it.
