Hey DW, I got a question that I really need your help with. I'm considering between an Acoustic EQ and Super solid snare 14 x 5.5 1/2". I currently have a Pearl Reference 14 x 5 20 ply wood snare. But it doesn't give me the depth I want because it's just 5". Out of the 2 which would give more depth without losing the crack? And is the acoustic eq really worth the extra money?
@drummerboycaleb Great question! The Super Solid will have all the crack you are needing with warmth of the solid maple shell. The EQ is different because you can control the amount of air leaving the snare making it more of a few different types of snares in one. Both will do the job but if you are looking for a more specific sound go with the Super Solid. Hope that helps!
@ricardoieci Well that's a tough questions because Steven's has quite a collection of snare drums but most recently he ordered a 6.5X14 Stainless Steel snare. Sorry we couldn't be more specific. :(
Hello, would this drum be available in other materials such as steel, brass, bronze, birch, etc. in the future? And would it be availiable in other sizes? My dream snare would be a 14x7 knurled bronze eq with die-cast hoops.
@baronofhell08 Bronze EQ with die cast hoops?!? That sounds sweet! As of right now we have no plans ofmaking an EQ in a metal snare but we appreciate the suggestion. I' guessing that birch is a possibility though. The EQ snare is pretty difficult to assemble as it is with Maple but you never now...maybe coming soon.
@188metalhead881 No ignorance! Any question is a good one. Those are Woofers. They work as a Sub Woofer for the bass drums. Helps to bring the bottom end tones from the bass drums.
Hi. If it's going to be mic'd, what is the usual setting for it? does it need to have the low, mid and hi's to be in zero (0)? Well, since the drum has it's own EQ thing on it's ventilation system. How do you suggest it should be set with mics?
@godchildrocks because all mics, preamps, boards, rooms, etc... are different, it is still necessary for you to find the sound you like best and that suits your music. In other words, the Acoustic EQ snare should not necessarily be treated much differently than any other snare. The EQ vents on the snare just provide a different timbre to the snare, and can enhance the sound of the wires as well.
@mjautos Thanks for your interest! We do not sell direct, so I don't have a actual price for you. Your best bet is to give our Australian distributor a call:
@b4ido first, congrats on your truly unique snare. With the vents open, it can sound a bit dry. I would try thicker heads to make the sound more dense. It's hard to describe these sounds with words, but head experimentation can be very effective. Have you tried tape or moon gel? Not sure if that's the sound you're looking for.
do you guys have a snare, that has a nice pop/crack sound to it, with little to no resonance? like the tama metalworks? because thats what i like in a snare.
@glitchhacker101 The Super Solid would be a good choice for this kind of sound. I think the thicker the shell, the better for more crack and less resonance. I would avoid metal snares. They have a lot of crack, but you will get a "ping" resonance. Play as many different snares as you can. Enjoy the hunt ;)
@DrumWorkshopInc yeah LOL. thats the sound i like, i tried a tama metalworks 6.5x13 and a supersolid snare 6.13 all maple. and i like the tama more (but the super solid had more warmth) then i tried the DW knurled steel snare 6x13 and dw stainless steel 6.5x 13 snare, and they has alot more crack. so im still deciding.
@DrumWorkshopInc It's actually a shame he isn't able to play a DW kit! Of course, I don't mean financially, I hope finance is fine... But he's play DW heads and stands! My dream kit as a DW :(. Why'd you have to be so expensive?! :P
@Salzcamino haha. yeah, we wish they could be cheaper too, but we put a lot of time, money, and quality materials into our kits, not to mention all the custom options. You get what you.....
Who knows, maybe someday soon, there will be a DW kit available for about a grand. Maybe very very soon ;)
@DrumWorkshopInc Hmm.. Upgrade my kit right now, or save up for a DW? Save up! :P. But seriously, you got me excited and I hope it's not something limited because I'm a beginner but such a dork about drums. I just got my kit around 4-5 months ago, so I don't think I'm getting a shell upgrade soon. Just heads and hardware upgrade.. Too bad the local dealer only sells TAMA hardware. It's great, but I would've like those 9000 :D. So as soon as I get a good sound off my kit, I'll start saving! ;)
@scott111193 It's a new kit series. If you had some super custom DW kit in mind, don't wait, but if you're feeling open-minded, and your wallet is on the lighter side, hang in there till the end of summer. I would ;)
idk im guessing, since everything that dw has ever made has been way over priced..... im not saying the things they make are bad quality, cuz they arnt, everything is fantastic. but not worth what they ask
I just heard around $1,400...something.I do agree with you though,I just bought all 9000 series hardware.I payed about a $1,000 but I thinks its worth it! This hardware is the best! but drums wise I do think they over charge WAY TOO MUCH!
Because if you think about it,it doesn't take that much to make (not by company standards anyway) and labor (not that much) I do think you buy their stuff, your paying for quality but I think More for A name.
I use Risen Drums, they're a custom company out of Minnesota! And Im getting ready use "soultone cymbals" Im endorsed by both! so the cymbals I get a good deal on,but I do wish I had some sabain AAx's for for real!!! ;)
my drums have a ton of ring sound in them and i cant stand it how could i fix that
