superficial and pretentious...Someone should learn meanings and then post. A Artist that can put out music that touches the heart can bring it to the masses no other way than through their raw talent. Ryan Adams is a rare and beautiful genius, don't weigh him down with your use of terms that have no merit. Just marvel at him and his ability- and leave it at that.

@RoyaMitchell This is true on so many levels. Ryan's writing and music have helped me get through many dark times, and there are only very few artists that have the ability to do things like that. It really does make me appreciate him all the more, after reading other favourable comments here about him. His days with Whiskeytown, plus his solo career and his work with The Cardinals have all combined to produce one of the very finest artists of our times. This is more than music, this is gold.

For a guy who comes off incredibly superficial and pretentious, he writes incredibly beautiful songs. He's probably the best singer/songwriter I've ever heard. What a rare talent. He'll get over the hearing issues and he'll be back to touring again. I look forward to that!

His music is timeless, but his claim of hearing loss coincides with him marrying one the most beaurtiful women on the planet. I would take time off for Mandy Moore, and I would make up any excuse I had to in order to do so. I don't believe the hearing loss crap for a minute. He just wants to spend time with his new smoking hot wife. This marriage will spawn a whole new type of music from Ryan both traditional and newly optimistic in nature. I can't wait to hear the "Mandy" inspired music!

Hey JonathanHafer, I don't know about that, but we do both agree that his "hearing issues" are far less that he makes them out to be. I think that, with his extraordinary attention to detail in his art (music and writing) he's obsessing on a small hearing/balance problem and blowing it WAY out of proportion. Many people get dizzy on flights, but we just let it go. He's just having a little trouble obessing on it. He'll get over it. I've never seen him live! I can't wait! What a talent!!!

You have to see him live! I have been to four of his concerts now, and it is always a different experience. I think the mood of the show kind of depends on his mood right before the show. The show this video is from is free for download (DVD quality) on his archive site. Check it out. I agree with you...he probably is being a little over-dramatic about the "ear" thing. Give it time...he'll be back.
