  • @danonabouncycastle A monitor is the best bet. There are a few people you can send your camera to and get a flip hack from for the on-camera screen. In my opinion, just get a nice sized monitor and go from there.

  • @niftycomics you went all out wihth your shotgun mic

  • @amor1vincit7omnia The adapter uses the manual focus on the lenses themselves. No need to worry about the crappy on-camera focus wheel -- once you set the adapter up, you're good to go and never need to touch it again. Bummer about IrvB not selling the wheel anymore. The thing is awesome!

  • all the stuff is made in USA... so bad for german customers who get ripped off by the shipping prices. If you live in the states and own a HV 20/30/40 then you're really lucky.

  • Does anyone know what that piece is called that is supporting the twoneil, thats attached to the rail system??

  • @AsVideoProductions22 The only thing supporting the TwoNeil is the rail setup itself.

  • are you using a static twoneil? or vibrating? which one do you prefer?

  • @SDdemoreel Static. I think you get better footage with the static, but it takes a lot more care to keep clean.

  • Well done. could have overlayed the actual names of the added stuff, and maybe a rough cost of the mods for a total cost of the machine. But nice job. Love your opening!

  • about how much did the entire rig cost?

  • i was wondering how you deal with the image being upside down. is that why you have the external monitor, and is it mounted upside down?

  • Hey Great stuff,

Would you happen to know how to clean the HV20. Just on what i need to use.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for this. I'm inspired.

  • I am a noob to the whole filmmaking thing, but I have some ideas for some short films.

If had an hv40, shot in 24p setting, a 35mm adapter, and had the right editting software, would I be able to come close to the "look" or film? or would I need to do a lot more?

Also, if I had the money, using a Canon XL2 or Sony v1u or anything like that, could I come even closer to a film look ?

I am asking all this because you seem really knowledgeable and friendly too! lol

  • does the camera have an xlr input? Or is that what the beachtek adaptor is for?

  • That's what the Beachtek is for.

  • how much did the monitor cost you?

  • thanx for nice infomation! your camcorder looks so cool~

  • I would like to ask about the BeachTek XLR adapter. Which one do you recommend between DXA-A or DXA-2S for Rode NTG2 shotgun? Also, how did you attach the flash bracket to the camera and tripod? Thx

  • Hi Matt,

Awesome and every helpful posts on your behalf, many thanks. Could you please tell me the exact rail system you have and where i would be able to purchase. I'm a novice and have limited knowledge , if you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again dude,

    Rob from Australia

  • I use the Cavision rod supports. I believe I found them on Amazon. You can usually find some great deals on there. I think my earlier post about my HV20 has a link to the specific rails I have.

  • Thanks for your reply Matt, appreciated.

  • you say that the focus wheel is a must have.. but don't you use the lens you buy for the adapter to focus?

just asking a couple questions cause i'm thinking about getting the hv30 with twoneil adapter.. so it's a good investment?

also, how did you get that microphone into the camera, and does the cam have a firewire port to transfer onto final cut, or just the usb?

  • The focus wheel is for when you're not using the 35mm adapter -- which you wouldn't be using for every shot. It's for when you use the HV20 bare or with a wide angle adapter.

From my experience, the HV20/HV30 are great cameras and the TwoNeil adapter has been great. It is a static adapter & you'll have to take a lot more care to keep it clean.

The mic goes through my BeachTek XLR adapter. The camera does have a firewire port.

    I hope that helps!

    Mat N.

  • what a rig!...the only problem i would have with it is the lack of weight using the steadycam (shoulder mount).

  • It actually has a pretty decent weight to it up on the You Pod shoulder mount. It's about 9 pounds when everything is mounted up, maybe a bit more, and feels good.

  • ahh. it looks a lot less than that, but as it is, looks great! :]

  • I love your films!!

  • OMG glad to have you back!!

    Great vid!!

  • Glad to see you back!

  • cool

  • Why don'y you talk about your compuer and post software?

  • I'll have to do that in an upcoming blog post over on the Film Sensei website. I do a lot of my shorter work with Premiere and After Effects on a PC; the longer stuff, or the more complicated work, I do on my iMac with FCP, Color and After Effects.

  • what do you shoot with that?

  • To date I've shot quite a bit with it. A few music videos, (without the 35mm adapter) a few local wrestling shows, a pair of shorts and some 2nd unit footage to go with a 1st unit XHA1. I'll be posting some of that footage very soon.
