Abolish the public school system. Private schools would be affordable if all of them were run by individuals seeking to provide the highest quality education at the most competitive price.
I don't have high hopes for any "improve education" tour that pairs up a free-market guy like Gingrich, although he IS a "compassionate conservative" and likes FDR (so how free-market is he REALLY?), with a big-gov't race-baiting Democrat like Sharpton. Sharpton probably thinks one of the main answers is "more money." Well, I say the answer is marketization: decentralize school control, abolish the federal DOE, and allow for much more K-12 competition among schools. This could include vouchers
I guess this video happens to take place in Philly.
When I lived in Germantown in the 60's, there were typically 650 murder-ees per year in Philadelphia: 85% or more of the murders were 16 and younger. (you-mama kind of challenges and so on).
Looking on line it seems that currently the murder rate is about 1/2 that in 2008 and 2007.
It must be that the schools have done a good job over the years teaching the students about "good citizenship responsibilities."
Maybe if we have more private school's affordable for the poor maybe we wouldn't have this problem yet we have hypocrites in office who say they care for public school yet they look like crap.
And Obama sends his girls to private school in DC while he cuts the DC Voucher program for kids. mmmmm mmmmmm mmmmm
