And now they are axing the Upward Bound program! Literally almost wanted to hurl after reading that e-mail sent out by Privett. What fucking hypocrisy- claiming that the university serves its surrounding community when it does its best to shut them out. USF has really lost any progressive core it may have once had.
3.75 Million? That's it? As an alum I can tell you that The University is very strict about following protocol. It is unrealistic on your part, naive actually to barge into The Deans office and expect an immediate audience. I realize the your programming included all ethnicities. Speaking of ethnicities get ready to enjoy El USF and some fine Mexican radio programming.
I'm also an alum and I know they're all about protocol so we called everyone we could to make appointments and as I responded in a comment below a few days ago, we were directed to spokespeople for the real individuals involved and even they said an appointment wasn't available so we said 'fuck it. let's go to them directly. they can't shut us out like this and expect us to wait a week for an appointment.' I think we did the right thing.
They kicked everybody out of the building to rebuild it for 'more classrooms' just like when they tore down Gill Theater. In reality, the 'classrooms' became a pretty open forum for new parents and students to walk through. But whatever. Clearly it's all the same to USF. Classrooms, pretty open spaces, grass, cafeteria-all the same.
@miramiros They're not building more classrooms. All student orgs with existing offices moved to the UC which will eventually make way for residential spaces in Phelan which is a constant issue the University faces.
It definitely sucks the way that USF went about this. They obviously wanted to avoid protests and having to justify their decision to people who would never agree with it anyway. But it's ridiculous to just turn it off and not let the station notify it's listeners and try to transition as many as possible to the Internet. That being said I'm not sure that creating confrontations like this are really the right way to improve the situation. I hate to say it but if they wanted to sell the statio
Utter BS! Full Support From KFJC! Hell, with them looking for a license to purchase in the South Bay and with the State's fiscal crisis, we're probably next! Yikes!
A couple of links and the meeting time tonight 6 pm near campus. Guess that won't post. Oh well, facebook page KUSF, and SF Weekly have info. Tonight 6pm let's show that there is a community out there and not just a balance sheet.
Nope, we weren't able to. No one was taking any calls. We were given a phone number for Gary McDonald yesterday morning to call for questions. His voicemail directed us to his secretary. His secretary's voicemail directed us to her PR person. The PR person said they'd be at our meeting to read a generic statement.
So we said, 'Fine, we'll go in person.' And we did.
Wow. Haven't seen so much condescension since Columbia University in 1968. Go away little boys and girls you bother me. Thanks for posting that. Funny but when KUSF was winning awards and getting proclamations left and right, the administration was welcoming students and cameras into their offices.
'60 Minutes' you guys ain't but thanks for confronting the suits! This is epic - it's the loss of SF's premier, influential alterna-radio station - The City's independent broadcasting jewel, w/ programming ranging from HipHop to Chinese Star Radio in Cantonese. Voice opposition to the FCC! Ugly business no matter how USF positions it. Killing a vibrant station for moolah is like USF selling off St Ignatius Church. The administration needs a time out with angry Jesuitical interrogators...

P.S. At the same time, another program that
served marginalized communities, the Federal
program Upward Bound, was axed from USF.
UB shared a space with ROTC, which was not axed.
There is hypocrisy rampant in these two actions;
no concern for the people who are affected by these
decisions.

The administration pulled the plug and turned
off the station at 10AM with NO warning, no discussion.
Staff were escorted out by campus police. Locks were changed
immediately. This was a hostile act and it was done when it was done
because they knew that there would be no possibility of protest.
Students were on holiday and it was a surprise ambush.

I agree this is shitty on all fronts, but just a question, did you schedule a meeting at that time and he decided not to meet with you at all?
