Twenty years he did this, you'd think a professor that harsh towards people and their beliefs would have been mentioned in an article or something. This has no supporting evidence to validate any authenticity. And while I myself believe in God, I find little stories like this irritating because it's some cheesy way to show how your beliefs are right, even though there is no legitimate evidence to prove there is some omnipotent being watching over us. In the end our beliefs are our own.

You know what I would've done if I were the kid in that story? I would've talked to the professor in private and told him that I was a Christian and that his classes made me uncomfortable. If he insisted on being an ass, I'd inform the department head and ask for a transfer. What would he have done? Failed me? No, because that's discrimination and he could lose his job over it, which is part of what leads me to believe this story is bullshit in the first place.
I'm choosing to take the third option not presented in the video. I watched it and I'm taking it for what it is: a story that someone told me. I regard the bible and all other religious texts in the same way. Just because someone wrote something and promised that it's true does not mean that it is, but that also doesn't mean that it isn't. Even if it were true, using it as reason to believe in God is just kind of silly.
Saying that the chalk didn't break because of God is like saying that there's no such thing as random chance and that everything is predestined, which is what leads some people to Atheism in the first place because they ask themselves, "Then what of the people that have terrible things happen to them every day for no reason? What of children born with AIDS who die suffering before hitting puberty?"
It's cool that the guy in the story stood up for himself and everything, but the "true story" itself is just a means to disparage other people for believing what they believe while making the excuse that it's okay because they did it first. So many people want proof of him and want some spectacular miracle right then and there. I dont think God wants that. People offend you and many others, how is talking about God and Jesus Christ "offensive" when cruel jokes and violence are a part of our everyday lives?! We have to think about that. And having faith is not a crime, and we have to remind people not to forget that.
Also, my dog had cancer for 3 years without having to be put down, because my family prayed for him when he started showing signs of getting sick (the vet's didn't find out until 2 months before he was put down) and he went under dozens of medications he didn't need and he lived longer than some humans do when they have lung cancer, with the help of prayers.

Well, I should preface by stating that I am a theist and I believe firmly in Jesus. My career deals with the defense and theodicy of Christianity, Mormonism in particular, and I recently started a blog focusing on the culture of modern religious communities. Unfortunately, this story is an absolute hoax, and Christians (or any other theists) don't need to resort to sending around hoaxes in order to know the truth of the Gospel or to feel comfortable in their beliefs.

For any one who cares.. this story is a hoax. There was no professor, there was no class, there was no "incident." Just google "The Jesus-Chalk Hoax" and you can read the story for yourself. One site claimed this hoax has been circulating since the 1930s. It's one thing if the story was perceived to be fictional, but it's an insult to one's intelligence to say it was real and it happened "a few years ago." People should be aware of such things before reposting it here, claiming it is real.

So when everyday Teja Singh fell, people would pick him up and he would question what happened? they told him that he fell forward after he wouldnt bow down. Later on he realized that he was all wrong, and started his faith in God Almighty. Do not take these stories as being weird and false, it us who are false. Even though I am a Sikh and Sikhs dont worship Jesus, I would have stood up when he questioned "if any1 believes in Jesus please stand up". There are innumerous stories similar to this one. One in particular about a Sikh by the name of Teja Singh, he was also an atheist at first, he went to india and he never bowed infront of the holy scripture: Guru Granth Sahib (11th and final Guru), well he never bowed down and every day while prayers were going he would fall unconsciously face forward.
God is too big to fit into just the Christian religion, we all do not have to admit and ask for mercy from Jesus, it is only for Christians. The world would be a lot better if a person uses his or her religion as a mere pathway for salvation, a Christian should be a True Christian; a Muslim should be a true Muslim, A Sikh should be a True Sikh.
We are fools if we claim we know how God is and what God does, his powers are limitless and unkown. People can have different relegions. You don't have to be best friends with the same religon it can be any other religon. My friend is cathlic and I'm christian it doesn't mean we can't be friends. I guess what I'm trying to say is that just becuase we have different religons doesn't mean we have to fight we should just be friends.
Religion in general is a good thing, but when you start trying to push your beliefs on others, like the last minutes of this film, religion becomes dangerous. Do you believe a man of philosophy would actually point fingers at individual students to call them fools for not sharing his own beliefs? Has this ever happened to you? Certainly not me. I find it highly unlikely. Ridiculing someone for stating their beliefs is not the way of a philosopher. He was arguing the hypothetical and challenging his students to prove him wrong as Socrates would have done.

You know what I would've done if I were the kid in that story? I would've talked to the professor in private and told him that I was a Christian and that his classes made me uncomfortable. If he insisted on being an ass, I'd inform the department head and ask for a transfer. What would he have done? Failed me? No, because that's discrimination and he could lose his job over it, which is part of what leads me to believe this story is bullshit in the first place.

I'm choosing to take the third option not presented in the video. I watched it and I'm taking it for what it is: a story that someone told me. I regard the bible and all other religious texts in the same way. Just because someone wrote something and promised that it's true does not mean that it is, but that also doesn't mean that it isn't. So many people want proof of him and want some spectacular miracle right then and there. I dont think God wants that. He wants us to pick up a Holy Bible or listen to his stories and let ourselves decide if we believe in him, he loves us all so much he gave us free will to make up our own mind. My grandma got diagnosed with Lou Gehrigs disease and we were told she only had a maybe 3 months to live. Its now been over a year. There is a lot of power in prayer :]

Also, my dog had cancer for 3 years without having to be put down, because my family prayed for him when he started showing signs of getting sick (the vet's didn't find out until 2 months before he was put down) and he went under dozens of medications he didn't need and he lived longer than some humans do when they have lung cancer, with the help of prayers.

Well, I should preface by stating that I am a theist and I believe firmly in Jesus. My career deals with the defense and theodicy of Christianity, Mormonism in particular, and I recently started a blog focusing on the culture of modern religious communities. Unfortunately, this story is an absolute hoax, and Christians (or any other theists) don't need to resort to sending around hoaxes in order to know the truth of the Gospel or to feel comfortable in their beliefs.

I think if funny (as in odd) that this supposed Christian posts a SLANDEROUS video about someone "standing up for God" and then when people stand up for the truth, and expose this video as a HOAX, they get all defensive. Perhaps they will listen to you, since you are a believer.

I see what your saying but let me ask you just because I am curious...lets say it works out real well btwn you and your bf, you get married and have kids...do you take them to church, do you teach the about God? It does matter when it involves people you care about including your bf. It should always matter, not that it should start fights but that we would want to help them see the truth (without pushing it in their face). If we care about anyone we should do our best to help them see.

oh I agree...there's no good in fighting....but Christians shouldn't keep themselves from sharing our faith with others just because we are scared of starting fights...we just need to take a non-argumentative approach to it and that way it is completely up to the other person whether it becomes an argument or just a discussion...we can only keep ourselves from fighting but we still have to speak up..

Why is there a need to bear false witness to spread one's faith ? The story about the big bad atheist professor oppressing students is a HOAX, and a slander against USC. USC had to post it on their website that the story is a LIE because of all the e-mail they got. The person who claims to have made this video says it doesn't matter if the story is true or not, which this just tells me s/he is KNOWINGLY perpetrating a lie. Thou shalt not bear false witness.

For any one who cares.. this story is a hoax. There was no professor, there was no class, there was no "incident." Just google "The Jesus-Chalk Hoax" and you can read the story for yourself. One site claimed this hoax has been circulating since the 1930s. It's one thing if the story was perceived to be fictional, but it's an insult to one's intelligence to say it was real and it happened "a few years ago." People should be aware of such things before reposting it here, claiming it is real.

So when everyday Teja Singh fell, people would pick him up and he would question what happened? they told him that he fell forward after he wouldnt bow down. Later on he realized that he was all wrong, and started his faith in God Almighty. Do not take these stories as being weird and false, it us who are false. Even though I am a Sikh and Sikhs dont worship Jesus, I would have stood up when he questioned "if any1 believes in Jesus please stand up". There are innumerous stories similar to this one. One in particular about a Sikh by the name of Teja Singh, he was also an atheist at first, he went to india and he never bowed infront of the holy scripture: Guru Granth Sahib (11th and final Guru), well he never bowed down and every day while prayers were going he would fall unconsciously face forward.

God is too big to fit into just the Christian religion, we all do not have to admit and ask for mercy from Jesus, it is only for Christians. The world would be a lot better if a person uses his or her religion as a mere pathway for salvation, a Christian should be a True Christian; a Muslim should be a true Muslim, A Sikh should be a True Sikh.

We are fools if we claim we know how God is and what God does, his powers are limitless and unkown. I am a Sikh and we believe that vishnu, ginesh, shiva, etc. exist, but they are not God themselves, they too are children of God just like we are and they too pray to the same God as everyone else does, so it is not right to praise them but instead we should be praising the true source, God.

People can have different relegions. You don't have to be best friends with the same religon it can be any other religon. My friend is cathlic and I'm christian it doesn't mean we can't be friends. I guess what I'm trying to say is that just becuase we have different religons doesn't mean we have to fight we should just be friends.

Religion in general is a good thing, but when you start trying to push your beliefs on others, like the last minutes of this film, religion becomes dangerous. Suddenly there is a forum for people to despise each other over a subject that cannot be proven one way or the other. Just read the other comments if you don't believe me. I believe people should treat each other well regardless of what GOD you worship. Once you take it too seriously, you miss the point completely. And that's sad:(

I think stories like this are cute but highly manufactured to prove a point. Do you believe a man of philosophy would actually point fingers at individual students to call them fools for not sharing his own beliefs? Has this ever happened to you? Certainly not me. I find it highly unlikely. Ridiculing someone for stating their beliefs is not the way of a philosopher. He was arguing the hypothetical and challenging his students to prove him wrong as Socrates would have done.
