@BaggerTheVance I agree his earlier stuff is a tad faster than maybe it could've been, but I like it so much more because of it. It feels much more raw and unproduced, but that's my personal preference.
For some reason, I think his guitar being out of tune makes it sound better than it would if it was otherwise.... Idk just one of the things a musician notices. It gives it a droning dissonance that sounds great
@Seanzieboi "Why tune the guitar the same way all the time? For security? There's already been so much written for standard-tuned guitar" - Michael Hedges
Too bad his guitar is a little out of tune. There's really only one or two sections of the song it shows through on. Pretty cool song! The strumming bit is interesting.
This song boosts my mood. The song is full of energy but still makes me want to relax. When I hear this song, my mind tells me not to give up with whatever I'm doing or aiming for. Beautiful song.
people shouldn't get so bent out of shape that these guys don't get mainstream recognition. Mainstream music is no more than a franchise product like mcdonalds or any other crappy art. No one who knows anything is calling mainstream music real music and we all know it. If I were to have the choice of a small intelligent loyal international fan base and a large number of stupid people who wouldn't know real art if it hit them in the face I would chose the former. Keep representing Craig.
@266lah Good point, it'd be quite annoying to have the same annoying kids who are stuck listening to Lady Gaga etc putting in their two cents about real music like this here. There's a difference between being popular and being respected.
yeah, you can tell when people do it for the fame and money, or if they really do music because they love music. I'm glad Candyrat isn't mainstream...they keep it real and about what it's supposed to be about.
@266lah completely fully agree 100% I just wish more people knew about this music because its real music. A lot of people would feel better if this was the music they played on the way to work
It drives me nuts how BASS AKWARDS the mainstream is and how ignorant they are to true ARTISTS like Craig. Check out my solo acoustic page on myspace and keep supporting the REAL ARTISTS in this world!!!
Im a huge fan of Mckee, Ross, and Dufour, seen them in concert and love playing/listening to their music, but there is something i dont like about this guy. I dont know what it is, but im not digging his style or something, i just cant get into it. :(
@generalgreviousseth The reason is simple, the three guitarist you named are very melodic and much more knowledgeable than craig, But he is a splendid guitarist nonetheless
@generalgreviousseth Don Ross is the Radiohead of solo guitar, and Craig is the Pearl Jam of solo guitar. Both respectable, but it still comes down to taste.
at 36 seconds, that extension that he makes with his pinky sounds really sharp compared to the rest of the notes being played, might have been a little out of tune. also if he could have held that note longer, i think it would have added more flow to the song like switching from that section to the next
God Craig's got a kind of empty expression, like people who just lost someone ... It makes me feel the piece stranger and better, with that guitar that sounds like no other and that I can't really understand ! Great piece of art !
@JoeLaFigue If you don't mind me saying, facial expressions are typically the last thing on my mind when I'm playing a tough piece, and I imagine Craig is similar--except he's working with much more complex pieces.
@rootvalue I mean : he composed it, he knows how to play his song, so he can enjoy the sound he's makin and remember why he played it ... I wouldn't play a song I don't know well.
@JoeLaFigue I see what you mean. Lots of stoicism in musician's faces, but there are also a lot of musicians whose facial expressions scream, like John Mayer's, for example, when he's getting into it. It was nice talking. :) Do you play guitar yourself?
@rootvalue Yes I do, I began with electric guitar and played stuff like Metallica, Pantera. I enjoyed it before, I liked some melodic parts in thier music, and then I discovered candyrat musicians like craig or Don ross, and understood that the melodic parts I enjoyed in heavy metal songs were nothing compared to these compositions. So i try to learn fingerstyle songs as I can with my "heavy metal technique", I can play Don Ross's Rockbarra, or Elevation music quite well.
@JoeLaFigue Rockbarra is such an amazing song! I wish there were tabs for it... there are some parts I'm having trouble figuring out by ear.
I'm starting lessons with Craig D'Andrea in a week by the way! Found out he lives right around my area and I hit him up and now I'll be driving to his recording studio for lessons every Saturday until I run out of money haha. Pretty stoked!
@jacecrawford dude, thank you! I could've sworn I looked there already but didn't find it... maybe it was recently added. Either way, thanks so much for the heads up. You've made my night :)
@GarretsShadow I would like to say for the last time that I don't hear the tuning problem! There may be slight intonation problems once or twice in the B section but it doesn't effect listening. Album version is always the way to go.
@craigd19 It sounds out of tune at 1:34 till the end of the section to me. I think one of the strings was slightly sharp? I just compared it to the album track and it is definatly different. Maybe it was intentional dissonnce? I don't know but a lot of other people have said similar things so I think theres definatly something up
I guess a combination of both? I like the high high quality of the strings being like right there so you get most of the natural tones and stuff instead of like a clicking sound.. Antoine Dufour, or check on the right side his In with the purple etc.
Hy guys, I am starting to compose some songs inspired by Andy Mckee, Craig D'Andrea and Antoine Dufour. "Pumping through my veins" is my first song. Check on my channel.

@monkeynuts19 ok just saying that it would be an amazing song if the guitar was sorted out and serviced, his playing is great along with the album (which i have)
I don't think he looks emotionless. Maybe not a kind of extrovert but he is surely enjoying what he is doing. I also think that if you play something for a billion times you may not be as eagor to express yourself like you would do it for the first time. Nevertheless, his music is a piece of art!
i think this is what all guitarists play like until 5 zillion people tell them they are god and then they get ego and start making dick head faces.. even craig does it now, in his newer videos..
hopefully I'm not making 'dick head' faces. truth is, i hate the faces. I swear they were unintentional! I think that as my music has evolved so has my ability to convey my feelings. There has to be some performance aspect to go along with the music to help the listener understand where I'm coming from. Right?
@constono Well of course it is. Everyone should only do music for that reason. But inner emotions show through into your exterior. Your body language is basically the choreography of the melody.
I think anyone that has the dedication to learn to play and acoustic as beautifully as he does is pretty damn amazing. Andy McKee is also an excellent player through candyrat
all i can say is I heard this song over 2 years ago I think. I got the album and the tabs for this song. I learned a lot and it has been a lot of fun. I'll never be that good . dont have the life expectancy. but this song was an insiration that made my last 2 years better. and it still sounds great. So as a song, I must say I think it's a good one.
@scobum whoah would u like to share the tab please??? i've tried to play it by ear but man its one tough song to figure out haha i'm still having trouble with the tuning for it as well, it would be most appreciated if u could send the tab.
@AzureKnight461 Craig sells the tab , that's how he makes a little money for his talents. it's well worth the 10 bucks or so he sells it for. the 3 tabs , I bought his album and tabs because I wanted to support the independent artist that inspired me. I really think its a fair deal. shoot he gives the song for all to enjoy. 10 bucks is not too much to ask for the tabs. ask HIM. thx .
Craig himself said that it was an odd tuning. When he records the song, it sounds different because he used heavier strings on B5 and E6 to compensate for the incredibly strange tuning. Regardless of the pitch, the timbre of the sound will be different, and small changes in finger positioning will sound different.
Does anyone know anything about this wooden screen that is used behind Craig and Andy? Just wondering if it is just decoration or some unique acoustic paneling. Looks cool either way. oh yeah,I think that he is in DADGAD or DADF#A D. Either way, that B string tuned down to an A can sound out of tune even when it is in, on some guitars. Strange chord too...Great job bro!
I believe it is just there for decoration, i believe he is on a set they don't want you to see a bunch of stuff behind him. It would ruin the environment. Nice comment.
Both - it's nice, and good in acoustic sense (about wooden panel). And yes, Craig guitar is very often out of tune. I believe he use too light strings and they cannot keep on tune on such tunings but it's only my theory.
@canonmj Why is it that those that play classical guitar always say they play classical guitar? Why not say you like music and play guitar? Why restrict yourself by limitations? Music is beyond labels. Just feel it and play.
lol this dude is a pro. You think he would play with an out of tune guitar? Not on his life. I assume you are talking about the part at 1:35? Thats part of his song man. IT sounds awesome.
tie89 do you think that I'm talking about 1:35? do you know what tuning is? can tuning be wrong at 1:35 and good during the rest of this piece? come on
He is out of tune. Slightly, like a couple of cents flat on the low E (D, if in dropped tuning) and B strings. It doesn't detract from the awesomeness, though.
OMG hes tuned it his own way for the effect of the song...he tunes most of his songs differently...grow up ppls you probably dont even play guitar. if you do then id probably consider you take up something else....
If the only thing you can think about is "in tune" your obviously not a very good musician. It may be out of tune with you and your ear but everyone has their own perspective of music.
he's brilliant but without Andy's rhythmic discipline - if he just checked it slightly (4 bpm?)and grooved this would be sensational

I'm ending this.
Craig himself said that it was an odd tuning. When he records the song, it sounds different because he used heavier strings on B5 and E6 to compensate for the incredibly strange tuning. Regardless of the pitch, the timbre of the sound will be different, and small changes in finger positioning will sound different.
Ceasefire, men.

the tuning is c# g# e f# g# b

Does anyone know anything about this wooden screen that is used behind Craig and Andy? Just wondering if it is just decoration or some unique acoustic paneling. Looks cool either way. oh yeah,I think that he is in DADGAD or DADF#A D. Either way, that B string tuned down to an A can sound out of tune even when it is in, on some guitars. Strange chord too...Great job bro!

I believe it is just there for decoration, i believe he is on a set they don't want you to see a bunch of stuff behind him. It would ruin the environment. Nice comment.
RelaxingVideosInc 2 years ago
Both - it's nice, and good in acoustic sense (about wooden panel). And yes, Craig guitar is very often out of tune. I believe he use too light strings and they cannot keep on tune on such tunings but it's only my theory.

I play classical guitar, but I love this song!
Is there any possiblity of obtaining the sheet music (not tabs) for this piece?
Thanks
canonmj 2 years ago
you can buy sheets form candyrat page.
larrystanke 2 years ago
@canonmj Why is it that those that play classical guitar always say they play classical guitar? Why not say you like music and play guitar? Why restrict yourself by limitations? Music is beyond labels. Just feel it and play.
stargate669 2 years ago
Because guitar usually refers to electric guitar, which most of the time is played in a very different way.

lol this dude is a pro. You think he would play with an out of tune guitar? Not on his life. I assume you are talking about the part at 1:35? Thats part of his song man. IT sounds awesome.
tie89 2 years ago
tie89 do you think that I'm talking about 1:35? do you know what tuning is? can tuning be wrong at 1:35 and good during the rest of this piece? come on
Corsair0077 2 years ago
He is out of tune. Slightly, like a couple of cents flat on the low E (D, if in dropped tuning) and B strings. It doesn't detract from the awesomeness, though.
MrJazzguitarfreak 2 years ago
everything sound correct..there is nothing wrong with the tunig
BfmeShiseiKo 2 years ago
OMG hes tuned it his own way for the effect of the song...he tunes most of his songs differently...grow up ppls you probably dont even play guitar. if you do then id probably consider you take up something else....
Lassy32 2 years ago
Seriously. Its supposed to be out of tune you losers. Jealous much? He's probably laughing at all of you right now. Develop a skill.
coldoldrice 2 years ago
If the only thing you can think about is "in tune" your obviously not a very good musician. It may be out of tune with you and your ear but everyone has their own perspective of music.
squidlysmith 2 years ago
how about everyone just shuts up about the tuning and appreciates the fact that they'll never be this good.... in or out of tune.
bennissimov 2 years ago
just because its an open tuning does not negate the fact that is an out of tuned open tuning.
