  • he's brilliant but without Andy's rhythmic discipline - if he just checked it slightly (4 bpm?)and grooved this would be sensational

  • @BaggerTheVance I agree his earlier stuff is a tad faster than maybe it could've been, but I like it so much more because of it. It feels much more raw and unproduced, but that's my personal preference.

  • WOW! Very beautiful.

  • guys what type of genre is this?

  • @The1337nut ownage =)

  • Man this seems out of tune or something to me...

  • @zackmorgs youre out of tune.

  • @TheFunkyCriminal dope shit

  • Whoa Charlie Conway is good at hockey and guitar? Whaaat

  • wow he has a composition like antoine

  • do you really need to have crazy tunings to be in candayrat?

  • @wmw0702 you dont need too have crazy tunings

  • @wmw0702

    Only this crazy talent

  • Whats the Tuning?

  • @enk1982 C G D# F G A#

  • This is beautiful! Is there a cd?

  • @Missjolinha Check the description.

  • A god of acoustic glory...

  • how old is he here!? Crazy!

  • Comment removed

  • gotta see him LIVE next month!

  • For some reason, I think his guitar being out of tune makes it sound better than it would if it was otherwise.... Idk just one of the things a musician notices. It gives it a droning dissonance that sounds great

  • @Hoffletrof456 all these guys play in alternate tunings they're not "out of tune" persay just exotic tunings most people never play in.

  • @Seanzieboi "Why tune the guitar the same way all the time? For security? There's already been so much written for standard-tuned guitar" - Michael Hedges

  • Craig actually is coming out with a new album April 26th! He told me the CD's were looking really good too!

  • want it in HQ!!

  • guys help me !!! What are bucks ?

  • @naruto3zo "bucks" are the same thing as "dollars"

    25 bucks = $25

  • intro is just amazing.

  • Too bad his guitar is a little out of tune. There's really only one or two sections of the song it shows through on. Pretty cool song! The strumming bit is interesting.

  • OMG YOUR FUCKING AWESOME

  • how old is this guy lol

  • Its like my ears just had sex with my brain...

  • mi hombre D=

  • en que afinacion esta? tune?

  • Awesome !

  • It's as though Andy Mckee has an understudy who might turn out better, like Aristotle to Plato. :D

  • same background as andy mckee's video. he rocks and this guy too

  • wonderfull playing, great control !

    jrguitar

  • how old is this guy?

  • This song boosts my mood. The song is full of energy but still makes me want to relax. When I hear this song, my mind tells me not to give up with whatever I'm doing or aiming for. Beautiful song.

  • Great tune, you are awesome musician

  • people shouldn't get so bent out of shape that these guys don't get mainstream recognition. Mainstream music is no more than a franchise product like mcdonalds or any other crappy art. No one who knows anything is calling mainstream music real music and we all know it. If I were to have the choice of a small intelligent loyal international fan base and a large number of stupid people who wouldn't know real art if it hit them in the face I would chose the former. Keep representing Craig.

  • @266lah Oh God, that may be the most pretentious shit I've heard all day.

  • @266lah I agree so much

  • @266lah well put.. well put.. :D

  • @266lah Good point, it'd be quite annoying to have the same annoying kids who are stuck listening to Lady Gaga etc putting in their two cents about real music like this here. There's a difference between being popular and being respected.

  • @266lah

yeah, you can tell when people do it for the fame and money, or if they really do music because they love music. I'm glad Candyrat isn't mainstream...they keep it real and about what it's supposed to be about.

  • @266lah completely fully agree 100% I just wish more people knew about this music because its real music. A lot of people would feel better if this was the music they played on the way to work

  • @266lah You got that nailed.

  • ahhhhhh. <3 u Craig.

  • 2:16 must be craigs fav part he was bout to start groovin. dont be shy, have fun dude.

  • at first i thought i would be able to learn this song, but it's inhumanly hard to play, so i gave up xD

  • @Goldtoast Don't give up u can learn it but u need a lot of practice but u can't learn it perfectly U mustn't be lazy :))

  • I went through the same stages when I was stalking my ex.

  • @3245james sucks how they end up being our ex,right?

  • Chang of pace @1:54 for the win!

  • It drives me nuts how BASS AKWARDS the mainstream is and how ignorant they are to true ARTISTS like Craig. Check out my solo acoustic page on myspace and keep supporting the REAL ARTISTS in this world!!!

  • This is amazing. Love this music

  • He's pretty pro

  • Became obsessed by this song <3

  • Im a huge fan of Mckee, Ross, and Dufour, seen them in concert and love playing/listening to their music, but there is something i dont like about this guy. I dont know what it is, but im not digging his style or something, i just cant get into it. :(

  • @generalgreviousseth The reason is simple, the three guitarist you named are very melodic and much more knowledgeable than craig, But he is a splendid guitarist nonetheless

  • @generalgreviousseth Don Ross is the Radiohead of solo guitar, and Craig is the Pearl Jam of solo guitar. Both respectable, but it still comes down to taste.

  • I just pressed the like about 80 times hoping i could like this more than once. But i can't. Is there a so amazing i shat my pants button?

  • bas ovo volim

  • at 36 seconds, that extension that he makes with his pinky sounds really sharp compared to the rest of the notes being played, might have been a little out of tune. also if he could have held that note longer, i think it would have added more flow to the song like switching from that section to the next

  • sick

  • how can 47 people dislike this song?

  • @kumor667 they all must be 47 antoine dufour fans(i have nothing against antoine dufour) who are under 12 years aold

  • this guy, and guys like him, have made realize that i am a pretentious person...

    because i like this stuff.

    dying fetus forever.

    "RARGH!!"

  • how old is this guy?

  • i cant believe this is still only at 345k views

  • just best spent 3 minutes of my life,,,

  • i bought the tabs, i can now play morrison county!!! im learning this one next, then uess whos my favorite!

  • Although this guys songs seem to mellow down the more you listen to them, I havnt yet played him to anyone who hasnt asked "who is this?"

  • yeah this is not out of tune....it's not standard tuning, but not out of tune

    C#G#E F#G#B

it's gonna sound like this no matter what you do

  • This is terrible.....only joking!

  • God Craig's got a kind of empty expression, like people who just lost someone ... It makes me feel the piece stranger and better, with that guitar that sounds like no other and that I can't really understand ! Great piece of art !

  • @JoeLaFigue If you don't mind me saying, facial expressions are typically the last thing on my mind when I'm playing a tough piece, and I imagine Craig is similar--except he's working with much more complex pieces.

  • @rootvalue I mean : he composed it, he knows how to play his song, so he can enjoy the sound he's makin and remember why he played it ... I wouldn't play a song I don't know well.

  • @JoeLaFigue I see what you mean. Lots of stoicism in musician's faces, but there are also a lot of musicians whose facial expressions scream, like John Mayer's, for example, when he's getting into it. It was nice talking. :) Do you play guitar yourself?

  • @rootvalue Yes I do, I began with electric guitar and played stuff like Metallica, Pantera. I enjoyed it before, I liked some melodic parts in thier music, and then I discovered candyrat musicians like craig or Don ross, and understood that the melodic parts I enjoyed in heavy metal songs were nothing compared to these compositions. So i try to learn fingerstyle songs as I can with my "heavy metal technique", I can play Don Ross's Rockbarra, or Elevation music quite well.

  • @JoeLaFigue Rockbarra is such an amazing song! I wish there were tabs for it... there are some parts I'm having trouble figuring out by ear.

I'm starting lessons with Craig D'Andrea in a week by the way! Found out he lives right around my area and I hit him up and now I'll be driving to his recording studio for lessons every Saturday until I run out of money haha. Pretty stoked!

  • @Rael0505

there are tabs for it . . .on gobyfish.com . . . .. i promise . . . i asked teh same question the other day and found them on gobyfish

  • @jacecrawford dude, thank you! I could've sworn I looked there already but didn't find it... maybe it was recently added. Either way, thanks so much for the heads up. You've made my night :)

  • I've found the tabs of this for free, just look around ;)

  • @RiseAgainstNow

    where??

  • can i roll you up and smoke you?

  • it's not out of tune, guys.

  • tip: add &fmt=18 in the end of the video for better sound quality.

  • >ABOVE AND BELOW THIS MESSAGE ARE PEOPLE **TRYING** TO SOUND CLEVER AND KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT GUITAR ON THE INTERNET<

  • @amchris66 True... this phenomenon is also occurring in the message itself... the irony.

  • mayabe..but fuck all you guys, you try and play that

  • GREAT STUFF!!!!

  • ouch! tuning problem ruins the song here, but it is a fantastic song really! check out the album version!

  • @GarretsShadow I would like to say for the last time that I don't hear the tuning problem! There may be slight intonation problems once or twice in the B section but it doesn't effect listening. Album version is always the way to go.

  • @craigd19 It sounds out of tune at 1:34 till the end of the section to me. I think one of the strings was slightly sharp? I just compared it to the album track and it is definatly different. Maybe it was intentional dissonnce? I don't know but a lot of other people have said similar things so I think theres definatly something up

  • Not as supreme as Erik Mongrain , Antoine Dufour or Don Ross, but this song is awesome.Hope to see what he 'll be doing in the future.

  • groovy song and i especially like the jazzy chords!Well done!

  • i hate how his guitar is miced.

  • @RippinSkullz do you hate how the mic is set up or the fact that it is mic'ed at all?

  • @useruser1237

I guess a combination of both? I like the high high quality of the strings being like right there so you get most of the natural tones and stuff instead of like a clicking sound.. Antoine Dufour, or check on the right side his In with the purple etc.

  • this composition sounds somehow robotic. it could be a megaman level. lol

  • @bobbybellsupreme for music for megaman levels...check out Ewan Dobsons guitar playing lol

  • hey check out my cover and let me know what you guys think...criticisms welcome!

  • check out my music tell me what you think

  • Id pay good money just to rock out on drums with you on these tracks man, amazing vibe, amazing feel. Good to know people like you exist

  • Sort your intonation out.

  • @ozric36 Sort your attitude out.

  • @monkeynuts19 ok just saying that it would be an amazing song if the guitar was sorted out and serviced, his playing is great along with the album (which i have)

  • what a profound musical statement

  • y'a pas à dire Craig t'es un bon ! tu fais partie de l'élite !

  • This is a cool composition

  • man this song makes me so happy = )

start dancing while sitting in my chair every time i listen to this

    haha xD

  • the facial expression is caused by the huge amount of concentration , to my mind he is a great guitarist, thumbs up ^^

  • I don't think he looks emotionless. Maybe not a kind of extrovert but he is surely enjoying what he is doing. I also think that if you play something for a billion times you may not be as eagor to express yourself like you would do it for the first time. Nevertheless, his music is a piece of art!

  • I wonder why he looks so emotionless when hes making some of the most beautiful music ive ever heard.

  • i think this is what all guitarists play like until 5 zillion people tell them they are god and then they get ego and start making dick head faces.. even craig does it now, in his newer videos..

  • hopefully I'm not making 'dick head' faces. truth is, i hate the faces. I swear they were unintentional! I think that as my music has evolved so has my ability to convey my feelings. There has to be some performance aspect to go along with the music to help the listener understand where I'm coming from. Right?

  • @craigd19 Yeah that makes sense. but where exactly are you coming from? what ideas are you trying to convey in this song?

  • dude, I loved your acting in The Skull! You made Paul Walker's acting halfway decent, which isn't easy!

  • @amchris66 lol, i honestly dont think that while they are playing they are focusing on what faces to make, it looks like hes focusing on the song

  • @chicksand3

music is something you feel inside.

but most people these days don't understand that and have no knowledge of music what so ever.

  • @constono Well of course it is. Everyone should only do music for that reason. But inner emotions show through into your exterior. Your body language is basically the choreography of the melody.

  • @chicksand3

    well said, agreed.

  • pop radio music - yuck

  • I think anyone that has the dedication to learn to play and acoustic as beautifully as he does is pretty damn amazing. Andy McKee is also an excellent player through candyrat

  • all i can say is I heard this song over 2 years ago I think. I got the album and the tabs for this song. I learned a lot and it has been a lot of fun. I'll never be that good . dont have the life expectancy. but this song was an insiration that made my last 2 years better. and it still sounds great. So as a song, I must say I think it's a good one.

  • @scobum you're so right, last 2 years get better

  • @scobum if you got the tabs, can you share the tuning? It sounds like either dropped or double dropped D. Thanks

  • @lysergickfuneralproc

    the tuning is 1= B 2=G# 3=F# 4=E 5= G# 6=C#

  • @scobum whoah would u like to share the tab please??? i've tried to play it by ear but man its one tough song to figure out haha i'm still having trouble with the tuning for it as well, it would be most appreciated if u could send the tab.

  • @AzureKnight461 Craig sells the tab , that's how he makes a little money for his talents. it's well worth the 10 bucks or so he sells it for. the 3 tabs , I bought his album and tabs because I wanted to support the independent artist that inspired me. I really think its a fair deal. shoot he gives the song for all to enjoy. 10 bucks is not too much to ask for the tabs. ask HIM. thx .

  • @scobum oh thanks i'll do that then haha it does seem worth it i mean its a really great song i've been wanting to do

  • Comment removed

  • @scobum 10 bucks? why, i'd pay triple that!

  • @scobum I already knew how to play this and I STILL bought the tabs. So yes, support the man!!!

  • @scobum whats the tuning?

  • this guy is soo refreshing, young and talented, can it be any better?!

  • anyone know what strings he uses?

  • yeah cool mec ! bravo !

  • I'm ending this.

Craig himself said that it was an odd tuning. When he records the song, it sounds different because he used heavier strings on B5 and E6 to compensate for the incredibly strange tuning. Regardless of the pitch, the timbre of the sound will be different, and small changes in finger positioning will sound different.

    Ceasefire, men.

  • the tuning is c# g# e f# g# b

  • Does anyone know anything about this wooden screen that is used behind Craig and Andy? Just wondering if it is just decoration or some unique acoustic paneling. Looks cool either way. oh yeah,I think that he is in DADGAD or DADF#A D. Either way, that B string tuned down to an A can sound out of tune even when it is in, on some guitars. Strange chord too...Great job bro!

  • I believe it is just there for decoration, i believe he is on a set they don't want you to see a bunch of stuff behind him. It would ruin the environment. Nice comment.

  • Both - it's nice, and good in acoustic sense (about wooden panel). And yes, Craig guitar is very often out of tune. I believe he use too light strings and they cannot keep on tune on such tunings but it's only my theory.

  • I play classical guitar, but I love this song!

Is there any possiblity of obtaining the sheet music (not tabs) for this piece?

    Thanks

  • you can buy sheets form candyrat page.

  • @canonmj Why is it that those that play classical guitar always say they play classical guitar? Why not say you like music and play guitar? Why restrict yourself by limitations? Music is beyond labels. Just feel it and play.

  • Because guitar usually refers to electric guitar, which most of the time is played in a very different way.

  • its well tuned stop arguing lol...

  • jesus christ this song is so hard to play clean

  • He is out of tune. It is slight... but it is out of tune.

  • i think this is his best song on youtube

  • yeah, he is a little out of tune, who cares, its a wonderful composition

  • It's not out of tune, some chords just sound weird. Weird is good.

  • song sounds great either way

  • Song is great but his guitar seems to be a little out of tune.

  • your out of tune Corsair0077

  • lol this dude is a pro. You think he would play with an out of tune guitar? Not on his life. I assume you are talking about the part at 1:35? Thats part of his song man. IT sounds awesome.

  • tie89 do you think that I'm talking about 1:35? do you know what tuning is? can tuning be wrong at 1:35 and good during the rest of this piece? come on

  • He is out of tune. Slightly, like a couple of cents flat on the low E (D, if in dropped tuning) and B strings. It doesn't detract from the awesomeness, though.

  • everything sound correct..there is nothing wrong with the tunig

  • OMG hes tuned it his own way for the effect of the song...he tunes most of his songs differently...grow up ppls you probably dont even play guitar. if you do then id probably consider you take up something else....

  • Seriously. Its supposed to be out of tune you losers. Jealous much? He's probably laughing at all of you right now. Develop a skill.

  • If the only thing you can think about is "in tune" your obviously not a very good musician. It may be out of tune with you and your ear but everyone has their own perspective of music.

  • how about everyone just shuts up about the tuning and appreciates the fact that they'll never be this good.... in or out of tune.

  • just because its an open tuning does not negate the fact that is an out of tuned open tuning.

  • Best, fascinating.
