Sinéad O'Connor does a much better version of this, nothing against a non-native Irish speaker (I think Kate Bush is go h-iontach), but I think you have a bit of the blas to sing this as it should be sung, it's best played on a tin whistle actually. She sounds like a middle-aged mammy asked up to sing at a wedding and it's not the most ideal vehicle for her extraordinary vocal talent.
@marmelade721 Oh you've got to be kidding - this song is gorgeous and Kate Bush's vocals are nothing less than exquisite! A perfect vehicle for her unique voice.
Déanann sé mo chroí bródúil as a bheith ag éisteacht chun éisteacht leis an amhrán. Cad é guth amhránaíochta iontach a thaitin liom i gcónaí kate Bush agus a chloisteáil a canadh i gaeilge, chomh maith is atá sé ach tá wonderful. To dom Éire an tír is fearr sa domhan ar fad agus tá mé an-bhródúil as a bheith Gaeilge.
Is brea liom an t-amhrán seo ach tá sé iontach go chaint Kate Bash as Gaeilge! An-mhaith, is brea liom í!!! :D mar níl a fhios agam go bhfuil sí ábalta a chaint nó a t-abair as Gaeilge!!! :)
@MissNeverForEver You can find it on a CD called Voices of Modern Irish Music - it may be able to be found in other places, but that's where I found it - a truly beautiful version of this song :-)
straordinario!!!!!veramente bellissima questa canzone ....bellissime immagini Pollice in alto...infinite stelle********************ciao...Luciano e Ninetta
Beautiful! Makes me want to go to the Emerald Island TODAY! Thank you for the English translation, since I had no idea what Kate was singing about. It's actually romantic.
This song (composed by Seán Ó Riada and Peadar Ó Dornín) was first recorded by Ceoltóirí Chualann, then later done instrumentally by The Chieftains.
Other recordings: Bob James (1976), Ronnie Montrose (1986), The Christians (1989), Sinéad O'Connor (1995), Alan Stivell (1995), Mike Oldfield (1996), Sarah Brightman (aka So Many Things, 1998).
Ah Symphony, your video really underlines the purity of this graceful song :D. And, thank you for letting us the lyrics, both in Irish and in English ! :)
I didn't imagined the lyrics were so moving.. All very subtive, like your work for this video, as martinekkes said..
