Even though Torrez has said in later years that in between the pitch that Bucky fouled off his foot and the ball he hit out he made a mistake by not continuing to throw with Fisk, since there was a delay, I think if it had been a more dangerous hitter up there Torrez wouldn't have thrown something that fat. It's not a homer in any other park but it would've scored 2.
Yep ! I remember running home from jr.high hoping to see the Red Sox win this game.Did the Red Sox deserve to win this ? Yes and no but It's too long to explain it.Did the Yankees deserve it.Well they won something like 59 out of 73 games and that embarrassing 4 game sweep they pulled out in Fenway.The Red Sox came with the injury flu and fought sickly but still fought and also made a comeback with just one run short.I respect this team more than the 2011 squad ten fold.

Injuries played a big role in their collapse but winning their final eight to tie the Yanks proved that team were winners. Both teams deserved to win. It was a tale of two seasons. On July 18th the Sox were 14 games up at 61-28 while the Yanks were 47-42. From July 19th onwards the Yanks were 53-21 while the Sox were 38-36. Both teams were great.

He says that after the delay when Dent got hurt he didn't keep warm by tossing the ball with Fisk & maybe lost his concentration. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Rochelle, NY. I remember this kid George Mesk was a big Sox fan. I remember
riding home on the bus with him(he had a transistor radio) listening to the game.
I remember him taking a ribbing the next day. In 2004 he had the last laugh. Even
though I haven't seen him since ' 78 or '79, I immediately thought of him when
