Hadnt seen this before. Know the actor from The Untouchables. What a great film. Agree with other posters this is how films should still be made (no cgi).
Thank you for posting this beautiful film. It is sublime in the way it captures the immensity of the wild and forces each and everyone of us to determine what kind of relationship we would like to have with nature. This film should be required seeing in every high school across the country.
If this movie was made today, it would involve a cgi plane, cgi animals and cgi Inuits either on Location but most likely on some set with blue screens. lol, jk...Great movie, Amazing Cinematography. XD
Charles Martin Smith I loved your writing in this and Snow Walker direction. Lets do a film maybe a remake of Green Mansions while there are still rainforest to film in.
Thankyou; 2 Feet, For these great uploads :"The Wolf is, SPIRIT AND PURE": Man, seems to be around to learn Lessons : The Wolf teaches us Profoundly and if you have known them w/ Deep Respect and Love...
NCW was a great read. But my all time favorite Mowat book was "The Boat Who Wouldn't Float"...a happy misadventure that took place on Newfoundland. Funniest sailing story I have ever read.
thanks loads for uploadin this m8, caught the last minute of this on TV once and hadnt been able to find it for nearly a year. Didnt think to look here till now :P
Check out the movie "Into the Wild", based upon the book by John Krakauer documenting the life and death of Chris McCandless. Fantastic movie and great sountrack...guaranteed.
I was totally impressed by this movie when i was young. Now that i watched it again i see that i rather made my own story with it, i was sure the man raised the wolfs pups for instance. Funny.
Now it still is a real good movie, but a childrens movie more. Very good for children to watch and letr them think about nature, and human beings, and to see some beautifull nature-shots. I never forgot this movie and did watch it all again just now. (i should have gone to bed two hours ago! :-)

I didn't really like it... Basically some guy went up north and looked at some wolves. He ate a bunch of mice, proving that wolves weren't killing the caribou, but then what? Shouldn't he have shared his knowledge? Shouldn't he have done something other than try to sound nostalgic and important?
i liked it. this was the first movie i had ever watched on youtube. and this is the first time i had ever watched this movie. ironically i just found out about this movie on amazon looking up the movie the bear. that was another related movie that came up. ghostyfilms you can think what you want about this movie its cool. i understand how you think he should of shared what he learned. but what i think he should of done was what his heart desired.

You can disagree all you like, but it seems as if, in most stories, the main character changes in some way. He talked about how he was a watcher, but, in the end, he was still a watcher. He didn't really seem to improve. Usually good stories involve the improvement of the main character. Usually they involve the conquering of some obstacle.... It left me disappointed.
and dude being someone who watches and studies wildlife will always be a watcher. thats what you do 2 study wildlife. you watch it. thats how you learn. and well he did improve. he became no longer afraid of his journey like he talked about at the begging of the film. he became more of a man. but you dont have 2 like it its cool man.
and well there is another thing he came over. greed. its like when all those guys are talking about making money off of parts of that country. he could of shown them places 2 do that. him and the begging of the film might of jumped on that. but then he learned that some thing are priceless you know what i mean?
well if you knew that this movie is carroll ballards adaptation of farley mowats autobiographical novel. so that means the main character in this movie that he's really based off of came back and shared what he knew with the world just like you wanted him 2. and i stick by what i said. he should follow what his heart desires not what the world does. and well this isn't just most stories its inspired by real events so the whole most story thing ur talking about doesnt
May I suggest to read his book "never cry wolf"? It is a great read :) You will find a lot more details there and most important, the wolves. Farley's research did made an impact and he did submitted his studies to the government of Canada. And his book reached millions of people around the World.
The whole autobiography thing seems to add value to this somehow. Maybe the purpose of the movie is to leave us in a state of frustration, sort of like the way life does sometimes.
wow dude. i forgot about our talk. damn that was 2 months ago. shit. idk if thats the point of the movie. i dont think it is. i think its more of just follow ur heart.
Its not just about following your heart, the first thing he learns is how insignificant he & his heart are. It is about larger things than that. At the end there, the modern western man & the old Inuit traditional man trying to learn how to juggle, the movie is about juggling the modern world & nature, about trying to find a balance. While the Sportsmen hunters & the younger Inuit profitting from the land represent the sort of Palin Republicans wanting to drill & profit from limited resources
You dodged the substance of the statement attempting to make some sort of personal attack on me, who you don't know, which would be a very typical Hannity-esque O'Reillyism. Not much independent thought on your own part. Where did I say she represented all things evil? Its true that she is corrupt, incompetent, and hypocritical; but none of that was at issue, only the fact that she is overly focused on trying to drill & profit from limited resources, & that mindset was represented in this movie
Have you read the Farley Mowat book on which this is based? He's not nice to right-wingers and today, he's a major backer of the Green Party in Canada.

@BartenderX hahahhaha so sadly true; a film cannot be made today without cgi in it, they just can't do it any other way, and much of it looks fake

Two good transcendent nature movies are Anima Mundi and Baraka. If everyone watched these films we'd probably live in a better world.

Well, she's quit the governorship. What makes you think she would ever be a good president?
If McCain had won, she would've been veep for about two weeks and then quit (because of David Letterman's jokes.)
