Hey man, I have a quick question. I would only be able to play with a clean sound because the plugins didn't seem to work, so I had to plug in an fx processor to the interface. I didn't really like the way that sounded, and after seeing the demos here on youtube, I'd really like to use the amp plugins. What do you think the problem could be? Thanks.
I'd like to use Mixcraft 5 as a guitar effects software. Basically I want to plug my guitar to a laptop and use the software for various effects. I want to hear my guitar sound in real time too. Unfortunately with the normal sound driver there is a lot of delay. The alternative is to use ASIO, but I can't select my inout and output devices when ASIO driver is selected? Any Idea why this is happening and how to fix it. I'm using Windows 7 on a 64 bit laptop.
If you're new to this remember to get a nice full 'more professional' sound you'll need to do a little experimentation and effects mixing etc. That and the fact that unless you're using backing tracks it's going to sound a little dull and flat anyway.
I am new to all this but by your explanation it seems that using the audio interface reduces the amount of latency in real time playing. Is this so? Thanks.
I connected it by the first method and it has slight background noise when it has the amp turned off but when i turn it on the background noise is unbearable, why is this happening?
just wonderin if you could help me, i have a peavey vypyr amp and it has an output for a usb cable, so i tried it straight from the amp to the computer usb port on audacity and it sounded awful with the latency you mentioned. i don't know what im doing with the recordiing stuff or how to do it so im just hopin you could tell me some of the best ways i should try to record my guitar onto the computer
I cannot follow the tutorial because I don't have the equipment needed..But I think of something else..Can I record my track with a USB microphone to Audacity and then "put" the recorded track in mixraft? please help..! thanks..!!
When I connect my guitar into my laptop it sounds good but when I use "Shred" it sounds horrible why is that? It doesn't sound good as it should sounds. How can I fix this?
can you give me an idea if how to record without any noise?, i know bout noise reduction in mixcraft but still theres a lil bit noise, is it in a mic? or place where im do recording or in the audio card that im using?
@KathyZapp ya dude. you might have like, mixcraft..... whatever. or a demo version. idk. but also props to Acoustica222 and the acoustica company. i got mixcraft 5 and i am STUNNED at how simple it is to record, plus i am a noob.) so it's great.
I want to use my effect pedals like the RP355 and other ones
would I just connect it in between the interface and guitar like I would with an amp and guitar?
is this method the same when using the midi interface? I have a microkorg synth keyboard and electric drum, simmons sdmk4 to be exact, and I want to be able to record those instruments
thank you so much for you help! definately subscribing :D
I currently have a Cakewalk UA-1G usb interface. I actually dont have the option to 'Monito Incoming Audio'. All that i see on the menu is 'Recieve from All MIDI Channels' and different channel options. I cant hear playback within any MIDI channel, and i hope someone can help me out.

When I connect my guitar and try to play and record there is some kind of annoying noice as if something is wrong with the cables or something..Any idea what it is?
I have the Presonos audiobox USB input, and it won't record. I tried to change it in preferences, and I can select ASIO or WaveRT (tried both) The problem is, it only lets me select "midi" in the "arm" option. It has two midi inputs in the back, but I am the guitar hook ups in the front. Is there no way I can arm the front inputs, or does it only work with the midi inputs in the back?
I was looking to be able to play my guitar on my stereo reciever while using mixcraft. I have a 1/8in to rca cord to get sound from my computer to my stereo, and i was going to pick up a 3.5mm to 1/4in adapter to get sound from guitar to pc. Is this all I would need or will I need an extra sound card or something? I have a roughly 2 yr old hp laptop with 2 audio ports on the front. (1 mic and 1 headphone)
@jkaiser193 It depends. You'll need to select it to record from on your recording arm arrow drop down next to the "Arm" button. Watch the video called "Optimize Your PC For Use With Mixcraft" .
@theqrokz The input on your computer is 1/8 inch, you'll need to adapt from your 1/4 inch guitar cable to 1/8 inch. If you can get it plugged in, it will work. Make sure your recording device settings are correct when you arm a track.
@realjuvelive On the back of your computer are microphone, line in and speaker output jacks, thos are connected inside the pc box to what is known as a sound card. On laptops, there are usually microphone and headphone jacks, no line in.
@marcoamac Yes both methods use the "shred" amp simulation plugin which comes with mixcraft. The difference in sound on the video is due to the 2nd method being heard through the headset I am wearing, and the 3rd method being heard directly through the computer to the video recording application.
when i record with my plugged/in guitar on mixcraft, there is a background noise.. as if i record the sound with a mic.. i really don't know what is the problem
Hi, first of all, thanks for the nice tutorial, but I'm having some problems.
I tried connecting my guitar directly from the adapters to the line in microphone jack, but when testing the audio and recording, no sound comes out. I've also tried to plug it into my amp, and to my pc and guitar, but still no sound comes out.
Is it a problem with my settings? Or some thing else?
@EARproduct1ons Are you trying to hear the guitar in real time or record it and hear it on playback? You probably have the wrong recording source selected from the drop down menu next to the arm button.
@acoustica222 I'm trying to record and hear it on playback. I did notice the arm button, and I picked the right on (microphone - line in) but still, nothing.
@acoustica222 I tried, but still nothing. To reiterate I have the line in on the microphone jack, and I plugged it into an adapter, and then plugged into my guitar directly. I've also tried putting it in the recording jack in my amp, but that didn't work either. Any ideas? Thanks
i have ASIO and a creative 0404 but whenever i record things work out fine. i record more and layer a few more tracks on my song my recording either cuts out then starts again or the sound quality gets really fizzy and shitty sounding. why does this happen is it the sound card? i bought it brand new and i have no idea why this should be happening.

i have the emu 0404 and i dont seem to have the same output size that you do. the output is to small for my guitar cable are you using an adapter to plug it in and if yes what kind. thanks!
Hey, I've just started using Mixcraft today to record myself, but I've run into a problem if you could help me...
I'm using an Ashton MPA100 for my guitar + Mic - plugged into my new dedicated soundcard, but the sound is quite low (I have to turn my speakers and sub woofer WAY up to hear it, but then there is hissing).
I'm waiting on delivery of a Yamaha MW12CX - will this improve sound quality if I run through that first?
@Staratino If you have to turn your computer speakers way up to hear a track you recorded, yes you will get hiss. You need to turn up the source (your amp) and record the track at a higher level.
@acoustica222 I do everything METHOD 1 says, and then i hear a high volume noise from my speakers.. so loud i hav to turn them off.. what is the problem?
@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 If your amp has a line out then sure you can, just don't connect a speaker outout to it because they are powered and will damage the m-audio unit. You could also place a microphone in front of your amp and plug that into the m-audio unit.
my band uses this 3 dollar 1/4in. TS to 3.5mm TS, so if we want to use pedals we can..even though we have good distortion, we use shred amp to record because it is easier..but its only 3 dollars at best buy, plug it into your microphone jack, and it gives a good sound
Nice informative video. Thank you for creating and sharing.
The external soundcard seems the best option as it allows perfect set up on latency and no fan noise. The other ways look good too and your explanation is appreciated.
@acoustica222 It's just something I heard from a Pro who suggested the best way is to use an external interface because of fan noise.
I'm gonna get the one you suggested on here.
Thanks for your videos. I still can't wait to see a proper song structure breakdown applied to the tracks & time/tempo/measure division of the track. ie Intro, verses, Chorus, Bridge, Outro.
@Topdoginuk The only way you'll get fan noise is if you put a microphone directly next to your computer fan, or if your computer has grounding issues you might get buzz, but if that was the case you would get it wether you use an internal or an external device.
My personal opinion is that an internal PCI card is worlds better than any USB connected device. USB simply does not have the bandwidth that PCI does, nor the speed. When I record professionally I use internal cards exclusively.
@Topdoginuk I now want to add to my previous post. I have been using a Creative E-MU0202 external device for portions of recording projects and it's actually quite reliable and sounds great. A drawback I can foresee is that since I tend to input on up to 16 channels at once, I don't think a USB device would be able to handle that smoothly. Maybe when USB 3.0 is the standard, that will change.
in the first method, does the RCA quarter inch adapter have to be MONO? (i have a STEREO adapter)

By the way, I record the guitar first, then layer the mic recording over that. I don't record both simultaneously...

@Staratino That's the best way to record IMO. See my earlier reply to you for the answer to the hiss issue.

Cheers, Rikki.

@Staratino If you have to turn your computer speakers way up to hear a track you recorded, yes you will get hiss. You need to turn up the source (your amp) and record the track at a higher level.

@acoustica222 Well that makes sense I guess. I'm new to recording so I appreciate your help.

I have the FireWire Solo (M-Audio) is it possible to hook my amp into that as well as my guitar?
ArtificialFlavaFTB2 1 year ago
@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 If your amp has a line out then sure you can, just don't connect a speaker outout to it because they are powered and will damage the m-audio unit. You could also place a microphone in front of your amp and plug that into the m-audio unit.

@acoustica222 Im not sure on what a line out looks like, i was plannin to go with the mic but I have to idea where to start when buying a mic

my band uses this 3 dollar 1/4in.

Thanks again.

@Topdoginuk Thanks for the kind post. You get noise from your computer fans if you use an internal sound card?
acoustica222 1 year ago
@acoustica222 It's just something I heard from a Pro who suggested the best way is to use an external interface because of fan noise.
I'm gonna get the one you suggested on here.
Thanks for your videos. I still can't wait to see a proper song structure breakdown applied to the tracks & time/tempo/measure division of the track. ie Intro, verses, Chorus, Bridge, Outro.
Topdoginuk 1 year ago
