  • Damn, better propose to her. Bitches love proposals.

  • At 4:00 he looks more like a teenage boy caught sneaking around with the girl.

  • I love how he loves her! 'But for you...I will obey.' GAH rochester!

  • Definitely my favourite part of the show -3 Toby Stephens is so sexy and I love his hair :) -3333333

  • Jane would be the perfect mother to Adele

  • i love it!!! its just i wish they kept the words the same as the novel, it seems as though the writer changed the sentences to make it more understandable? and put in little bits to help the viewer understand the story more? i think they included more scenes in this version from the book, but the new jane eyre kept the language the same, and not so much modernized as this. everything was made so obvious! i love the novel most, then 83 and 11

  • @christine4xoxo JE is my favourite book. I love the prose. But Bronte never wrote a screenplay, and almost certainly never imagined that actors would utter her words. Her dialogue is excessively "wordy" - lovely in print but overly theatrical when spoken. The actors in '83 and '11 sound like they're just making speeches to one another, but the '06 screenplay is natural, fluid and believable. Plus, the inevitable pruning of dialogue in a long novel makes the rearranging of speech unavoidable.

  • ahhh the best part of this film, and the new one (Jane Eyre 2011) is nothing compared to this one

  • "Do you think because I am poor, plain, obscure and so little that I have no heart? That I'm without soul? I've as much heart as you and as much soul. And if God had given me as much beauty and wealth I would make it as hard for you to leave me as it is now for me to leave you."

I love this scene. The cadence makes me think of The Color Purple "I'm pore, I'm black, I may be even be ugly. But dear God, I'm here. I'm here"

Ironically, Jane wants to stay while Celie wants to go.

  • Oh Mr Rochester you've had me smiling like a F....... idiot for the past 2 hours!

  • So overwhelmed by emotion, lust, and other socially unsensible things. Sure she gets her guy but at the risk of her reputation. Many times people swallow emotion to do the acceptable thing.

  • Awwww i just died of happiness when he proposed

  • May someone please tell me what Mrs.Fairfax means by "so overwhelmed"?

I don't understand why she isn't happy for Jane.

  • the way he says " absolutely" makes me absolutely love him

  • 4:04 she looks like megan fox, but prettier

  • when ever read this novel ..........felt that love has no age and no class.....when ever love happens it happens.........love this

  • that little girl is really like a french girl

  • Mr. R: *tries to hold Jane's hand*

Jane: No. *places Adele in between*

Me: *snickers* Ha ha I would so tease a man like that. Oh Jane you are so sensibly wicked and wonderful in spite

  • @JayLynnization me too! me too! hehe, we are terrible XD

  • "Mademoiselle will be covered in jewels as she teaches you mathematics" LOL

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE TOBY after his love declaration. He is so full of life and emotions. It's so entertaining to watch :D

  • Oh my god, when this scene came up in the book, a few of the girls just went "awww". lol God...

  • este cuento si que es de hadas!

  • yo tampoco puedo vivir sin Rochester y sin Darcy! jajajaj

  • Tmbén não vivo mais sem eles.... nem sem o mr. Ferrars, nem Capitão Wentworth, nem Mr. Tilney.. nem Mr. Thorthon.... mas o sr. Rochester é o melhor.... adorei ele!!1

  • favorite part of this whole show 4:05-4:28. Jane is finally happy and the music is beautiful :)

  • Does anyone else think that Toby Stephens (Mr. Rochester) reminds them of the character Damon Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries)? Not Toby Stephens himself, but the way he's played the character of Mr. Rochester.

  • 5:23.... damn.....

  • 7:18 is the "You've got to be kidding me" face.

  • This better end well. I know how these novels are... *skeptical*

  • Did anyone hear a strange noise at 1:34? I did. I think it was me, jumping up and down in my chair.

  • I bet Professor McGonagall is proud :D

  • Toby Stephens's smile is so beautiful and so sweet that I'm melting away...

  • First he tries to hold her hand and she don't allow him to, then she puts Adele between them. Its hilarious.

  • I just saw the new film's version of the engagement scene in this clip. Can't even compare it, sickening that more people are watching that crap than this.

  • @MsLizRed I agree with you. Seems that in the movie the scene has no passion. Its total lack of emotion.

  • Edward Rochester is plain evil..lol...and when did Jane get such different clothes? All out of the blue she's wearing a creamy white instead of her dreadful grey?

  • such an amazing movie!!! I don't know how anyone could dislike this video

  • Can't think of a better series/movie!!!! (:

  • The cast is amazing! Would love to see more of them on the big screen. This movie is much more true then the 2011 adaption. Love it !!

  • I was soooo looking forward this part! I couldn't wait for that first kiss, which did not deceive me at all. I think I may be falling for Mr. Rochester. He's no Darcy but he's second best :P

  • @angXeliXque Since I read the book, I can't live anymore without them both, Darcy and Rochester.

  • @Biblionatinha Same here :)

  • Nice very very movie my favorite jane eyre:-) i love it

  • it's the walk of shame...in all the best ways. :)

  • ahhhh, this is my favorite Jane Eyre version!!!! So true to the book and perfectly portrayed.

  • Blanche has been trolled

  • "No! Absolutely NO! Jane and I- Miss Eyre and I"

OMG I'm cracking up every time! XD

  • awwwww.... how sweet!!! i love it it's so cute! i love this movie!!! :D roflmfao

  • she reminds me of kurt hummell...

  • oh it's just o sweet I can't handle it!!!!

  • @tarynrose1000

    quit trolling!

  • "We're going to town!" I love the look on his face when he says that, like a kid that just got handed a lollypop.

  • love the way he pulls her back for just one more kiss. <3 wish someone would do that to me :)

  • When she said "Blanche Ingram of course, you ..... you..." i thought she was gonna say "you idiot" but NO, she's too nice.

  • ahhhhh best scene!!! i wish im jane <3

  • the way he says "are you overwhelemed?" gives me the shivers everytime! love tobyy :D

  • Damn, Rochester has such a lively attitude after the proposal to Jane, it's hard not to laugh and smile with them xD

  • :) Rochester and Jane :D Awwww, I smiled every time I see them kiss xD, even when he says "Good night, my darling".

  • Must not smile.... Must not smile.... Ahhh... Screw it :)

  • he is sooooo cute when he is talking to Adele and says," jane and i... miss eyre and i are going shopping." and when he said "just today!"

  • The language in this show isn't like the time at all anyway. What does it matter if she says 'shopping' or 'to town'?

  • I want a guy to kiss me like Rochester kisses Jane. Damn, men aren't gentlemen these days. One acts like a lady, and the men think you're a snobbish prude.

  • 1. Great acting from Ruth Wilson

    2. That Rochester haircut is SO hot

    3. I LOVE the kisses in the rain, how cute!

  • I love the music.... :)

  • Comment removed

  • I love it when he tries to hold her hand hahahahaha, "I'll send her to school yet.." He is just too cute!

  • oh damn i wish i was jane at least i know how to kiss such a handsome man as Ritchered .. damn she is no knowing how to kiss him well !! uuuh i can do better than that :D:D

  • damn he's persistent. jane playing hard-to-get and yet he still tries like four times

  • 7:38 -- We're going shopping!

  • he doesn't say 'we're going shopping', he says ' we're going to town'.

  • @Sophie01761 Of course I know he doesnt say that!

  • 8:15 is why all girls love English accents...

I now think John is the sexiest word in the English language

  • are you overwhelmed???? love the way he says it...

  • Toby Stevens is THE best Rochester! This proposal scene definitely touches my heart every time i watch it. and the music, oh the soft charming melody. I love it love it love it love!!! <3

  • I love how Rochester is a complete grouch, but when it comes to Jane he's a big ol' softie :)

  • I love the fake lightening

  • HSM4ever yes I have seen her with red hair in Capturing Mary. Have you seen her with blonde hair? She looks gorgeous with blonde hair also! She has blonde hair in the movie Small Island.By the way that was a good movie!

  • Adele's School of Etiquette 101:

You cannot visit any kings and queens until you are covered from head toe with jewels.

  • and omg he did, aaah :)

  • kiss her you fool

  • Seriously, who are these people who are thumbs downing this? WHY? It's fantastic!

  • God I was crying with Jane. My heart just bleeds for her around 1:00

  • Her acting is extremely good in the proposal scene.

  • 'You will not leave me, Jane.' ALL THE FEELINGS *flails*

  • @VintageTheTime - Exactly what I went through...

  • i love the proposal scene. and this version i think captures the book best. yet i still think the book has something that cannot be acted out on screen. the dialogue when verbalized sounds a lot like he tells her to leave, then she's saying she must leave while both at the same time contradict themselves. it's less confusing in the book. in my opinion.

  • "I offer you my hand my heart"...if you just stop crying women! I'm sorry, I knw she's pouring out her heart but I cant stop thinking how he would have proposed just to stop the crying and it's a miracle, she did, c men knw women better than we think.

  • Ruth Wilson is very pretty.

  • @TheGreg131313 Have you seen her with red hair, she's gorgeous.

  • I love how raw she made that scene she had me in tears! ;_; I love the way that Jane is no fool, she's in love with him, deeply and truly but she doesn't lose her head or her charm. When he backtracks she questions him, the way she has always done. That is why I love this story! :)

  • Damn I wish no one's home. So I can scream my lungs out!!! Like I did when I was reading the book ♥♥♥

  • Dangit, I wish Toby Stephens was a little younger so my obsession with him wouldn't be so creepy...

  • @LexiphilicChick

It's not creepy, cuz men like him get even more sexy with age.

  • Jane and Edward are the only Jedward I love.

  • this is my favourite scene

  • i love how their first kiss completely missed the mark, clumsy as a first kiss should be.

Then the second one makes up for it :DDDDDDDDDDDD

  • It is as if he wanted to gobble her up in the rain, darstardly Edward...jane we will find you a position...nom nom nom...

  • I have to add that the chemistry between the actors and the way they deliver their lines is pure perfection!!! <3

  • One of the best proposals of all time!!!!

  • I kind of regret buying the 2011 version its not terrible but hands down the 2006 version is sooooo much better! The relationship between Jane and Edward in the 2011 version felt kind of forced and contrived.

  • @myssreceb 100% agreed. and they left out sooo much of the book -.-'

  • @myssreceb The 2011 version is as flat as a pancake. I love the childhood part but the rest, eh. I do not understand the rave reviews.

  • "Jane and I-...Miss Eyre and I" hahahhahha

  • How come the the Edward's written in novels have to be so dreamy!!?

  • 7:37...please someone tell me they noticed that he WHIPPED HIS HAIR!

  • I saw the 2011 movie but this one is my fav because the 2011 on leave to much out.

  • right atfer they kiss in the rain and jane wakes up with her hair down, she is so pretty

  • itd funny, cuz in the book edward was ugly, but in this tv show he is hot... i love this part..... oh to have a man love you this much.... i wish i was jane right now.

  • That French girl really annoys me!

  • Fan girl moment I had to re-watch this scene 3 times!!!

  • 3:56... i screamed at the hotness of that wet man!!!

  • let the man hold your hand Jane XD

  • Aww <3 It's so cute how he keeps grabbing her hand near the end

  • i love it when jane allows adele to come to town with them..the look on rochesters face just says "damn thwarted again...and by my fiancee no less"

  • Damnnnnn 6:26 what I would give to be Jane lol

  • "...there is no one to meddle, I have no family that would interfere".....ohhh poor Jane if you only knew...... *tear*

  • omgggg this would bring out the romantic in the most cynical of people damn ruth and toby did the book justice

  • @rachelwrite46 Amen to that!

  • The best acted version of Jane Eyre ever is on my ipod in the form of the audio book from audible.com. The woman who does all the voices does a better job of playing Rochester than any male I've ever heard. Go figure.

  • Oh c'mon! You should totally have let him hold your hand, Jane!!!!

  • "but for you ... you I will obey." that line gets me every time. 

  • They got Rochester's age somewhat right in this version. Toby Stephens looks more late 40-ish. But I must say, Timothy Dalton is my Rochester :)

  • while she was crying, I was like "shut up and let him propose!!!!!"

  • when she says " i have as much heart as you and as much soul" i just melt. she delivers those lines just so amazingly with so much emotion. love ruth wilson- amazing actress! x

  • @BeeWilla4

Totally agree :) I think this is the bset version of JE ever. The newest version with Mia Wasikowska cannot compare... the scenes are so vapid :( Here all is passion and fire <3 <3 <3

  • @rosamirafly I second that. Mia is a brilliant actress, no doubt, and so is Michael Fassbender (he is a very handsome Rochester), but Ruth and Toby ARE Jane and Edward, and this version is just so much more detailed and passionate. The 2011 version is really just dark and brief; it doesn't go in-depth into any aspect of the book-- not even the romance, which is the central element of the story!

  • @masencullen my thoughts exactly. I looked forward to the new version, but found my self disappointed with certain parts. This is the best Ive seen.

  • i'm team edward...edward rochester that is!!!

  • I just love a wet man

  • AWWWWWWW fluff I'm gonna die!!!!!!!

  • who wouldnt want to hold hands with him!!!???

  • his smile is so unexpected..sorta like thomas gibson <3

  • I believe i love this scene better than 1996 one

  • | absolutely love this :)

  • I love the first scene!!

and I love the scene on the next morning!

    and the music!

  • I love the first scene!!

  • what will ı do without this beatiful love stories.

  • My favourite version. Such passion; such true love.

Kudos to Toby Stevens, he could be a Mr. Darcy.

  • Toby Stevens is hands down the best Rochester ever. I love the personality he gives the role. In other versions he's always too scary or too harsh or too boring. I love when he says "well...are you overwhelmed??" SO cute.

  • @kettlecorn363 Stevens is really good but Timothy Dalton is better by far..... Both perfect!

  • @kettlecorn363 I agree completely!! He's so FUNNY In this version!! :) <3

  • @ecoellentree He really is! And that's the way he is in the book! I think we have our winner for best Rochester and it is certainly Toby.

  • @kettlecorn363 I will have to read the book then, I haven't yet! :O

  • One of the best things about this superb adaptation is the musical score. It's absolutely stunning!

  • Totally agree! It sends chills up my spine each time something is played in these amazing scenes :D

  • All I can say is, they need to revise this version in PG-13 ;) lol. His lines to her about how he offers his hand, his heart, and all his possessions; asking her to live with him, to part through life as his second self, his best earthly companion... Why don't we talk like this anymore?! It would mean so much more compared to the lazy tongue our society has now created.

  • @sdragonrider OMG I LOVE it when he says those lines, and I totally agree about why we don't speak like that anymore

  • not gna lie i crrrrieeeeed!!!!!

  • Edward: We're going to town!

    Me: squealing and fainting.

    THAT'S CALLED ROMANCE!!!!!!!!

  • This is my favorite scene of all <3 Everything is so perfect!

  • Is having a love story just like this so much to ask for?? <3

  • @gemzee82 it is pretty odd, but I'm thinking it has a Biblical meaning: "...husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh..." Ephesians 5:28

  • 4:15 Yes, Jane, there's nothing more beautiful than a woman truly in love and having that love returned :)

  • Favorite scene!!!!!

  • "...that I have no heart." That was executed beautifully.

  • awwwwwwwwwwwwww Love the part on the couch............ :D

  • he is completely and totally perfect for the role.

  • she looks so much better with her hair down, wow.

  • So this is where the phrase "plain jane" comes from

  • I am dying to see the 2011 version!!! I LOVE IT!!!

  • Crying my eyes out! best version EVER!!!!!! <3

  • 1:10 hahahaha epic face lol :')

  • Comment removed

  • forget EDWARD and BELLA!!!!! its EDWARD and JANE foreveerrrrrrrr!! <3

  • @MegaLove2332 Team Edward...Rochester, that is. :D

  • @MegaLove2332 LOL I love Twilight, but I have to agree with this.

  • Love the scene where they are riding in the carriage and Janekeeps pulling her hand away when Rochester tries to hold it. Then when Jane's had enough of his silliness she puts Adele between the two of them.

Rochester (muttering): "I'll send her to school yet."

  • @soulgirl66 I cracked up at that part!!! :D

  • "Jane I want you to live with me...to part through life as my second self...my best earthly companion." *Swoons* Now THAT'S a marriage proposal!! :)
