Art school is indeed amazing. Only downside is having people that aren't familiar with the major schools thinking that you're attending a fictitious college.
Generally speaking, better programs are harder to get into. You have to be able to demonstrate your creativity and prove that film is where your passion lies.
I can relate to the part about your family not acknowledging film as a real degree. I once spent a half hour explaining the classes I take as music major to my cousin. She responded by saying, "Well, good luck in that one class you were telling me about. Was it music...?"
Dear Elle, your videos always brighten my day. Also, they are always hilarious, witty, and worth watching! Thanks for making great videos! :) I hope you have some time to make more videos!
Film students, current and former, unite! It's utterly true how the light meter turns you into some kind of master technician. Hell, I'm mostly in editing and continuity, and I still carry around the Kodak Field Guide. It makes me feel smarter, like I'm in on a great artistic secret.
I never had the problem with my family, but I did have the "get a real major" comment from some friends. Joke's on them! My degree is ten times more useful in the real world than their business management one!
It's because most DV camcorders record at 720x480 because standard definition televisions not display the each pixel as a square. You need to crop 40 pixels on the right and left edge giving you a desired 4:3 aspect ratio of 640x480. Or "letter box" the original source video in a 640x480 video format. What video editor are you using?
Only trouble is, almost all my videos from this year are on film. Like, FILM film. So unless I pay to transfer them to digital, I won't be able to put them on YouTube.
I'll see what I can do, though. Thanks for the suggestion!
ok so i get the same thing for music....they believe that because were arts...we get every art....and if someone tries to sing and i want them to stop i just go "wow your sharp" and they believe me and stop....they power of arts :D
any suggestions for film schools to apply to for people who aren't geniuses in math (D) and get a b average in everything else
