  • im a cdj beginner. only have some expeienece with vinyl so this is excellent video. thankls

  • A Man who shares his knowledge to others who could use a bit of Help and actually takes time to show others his skills and tricks on this Musical Craft, to me is a True DJ. Everytime i need some tips I watch your videos mate, I'm a Jazz/Classical Musician and just started to DJ a while ago, to me it is as Beautifully Complex as Playing a Sonata!! It's about keeping Exact Tempo and working with your hands and Above all Mind. You my friend are a great teacher.Thank you very much.

  • thankzz for everythinq my man!!!

  • cue is not for the headphones !?!

  • so it doesnt matter if the song is playing or paused you can not set a cue point using the cue button unless u turn the jog wheel/tunrtable ??

  • Great. Absolut noob looking for "cue" button function. This really helps.

  • allright correct me if im wrong, why do you balance the bpm without looking on the screen?

  • @fetentenple1 because they aren't an accurate readout and not all CDJ equipment has it so it is more beneficial to learn how to beatmatch by ear :)

  • Dude, this is a VERY helpful tut. I learned about 3 or 4 new tricks. Thanks!

  • Amazing man, can't tell you enough how much help you've been. Props!

  • Ellaskins, just wanna thank you 4 all the videos!

You tought me to beatmatch! better than our clubs DJ!

    THANX!!!

    Practise & Enjoy!!! LOL

  • @JonesBurway

you can pause the track on where you want it and then hit cue and that'll be the current cue point

  • how do you cancel the cue point to set another?

  • @JonesBurway if you have a pioneer player, you have to pause the track and then move the jogwheel untill you have the place where you wan't the next cue point. than just keep your hand on the plattern an press cue and the point is set !

  • @driveinshowbunnik so u have to turn the jog wheel to make a new cue point ?? will the song just start from beggining if you hit cue without touching jogwheel ??

  • Press cue ! and then ?

DOUCHE DUTCH. DOUCHE DUTCH DOUCHE DUTCH DOUCHE DUTCH

  • @iCarroller it would take the fun out of DJing. Autobpm is there if you use your laptop with a midi-controller. Only noobs use that kinda stuff. I like the real thing, CDJ-1000's, beatmatching and having a nice mix.

  • how u restart the cue point ?

  • i love how he teaches mane

  • john...what if you have the cd player on "cdj" function rather than "vinyl" function? if on "cdj" it would be at a repetitive beat pause.

  • What sensitivity do you have the jog wheel on?

  • Life would be so much easier if there was an 'autobpm' button.

  • @iCarroller boo

  • play poooooooooouse :D

  • What I love about this, is not seeing any digital display of bpm/pitch what so ever. Listening to bpm as apposed to automated sync or visual display of bpm's. VINYL DJ's FOREVER!

  • I wish i had a CDJ...!!

    But i dont...!! :(

  • 8 people still don't know how to beat match after this :P

  • Just wanted to say thanks! that cue trick is pretty sweet! I mix Drum and Bass, so i have a 32 bar section to use the cue trick before i drop a 32 intro on for the double drop! Used to get stressed trying to beatmatch on one 32 bar section! Now i have 48 bars to mess with it! Thanks mate!

  • i just tried this on virtual dj by covering the bpm and managed to do it!!!!! the main track was 105 bpm and the other track i managed to get into 105.46 bpm!!!! i didnt use the cue, i just used the loop function. thanks a million!

  • Tnx

  • thanks for the instructional video! its been the only helpful video ive seen so far. cheers

  • @mistikritualschile You clearly haven't seen his other vids XD

  • god damn you beat match so fast!

  • what kind of decks are those?

  • why don't you just put it on loop, then pitch bend?

  • @ MrN03yeomana I'm not sure about the link, but I know you are lucky AS HELL to get a gig at only four months!

  • hi there, sorry to bother you....basically iv only been mixing for 4 months now, using the numark mix track pro and virtual dj pro software.... why is virtual dj pro not actually used by professionals? should i try and change software? also, i got offered to dj in a local nightclub but they said they could only link my laptop up if i was using serato...why is this?

  • @MrN03yeomana CDJ's have no "USB" feature to them, so there is no way to plug the CDJ's to your laptop. Serato is the bridge between CDJ's and your USB port. You would have to connect the CDJ's to the Serato hardware, and then plug the Serato into your laptop.

  • @dangviddd some do, as my 400's have.

  • @MrN03yeomana

apart from CDJ's most clubs now use Serato, because with Virtual DJ it beat matches for you, so that takes the purpose of djing away, with serato you still have to beat match but you have your laptop so you can still see the soundwaves with specific lines of where the beats are so you can match visually as well as by ear.

and trust me this is coming from a guy that started with virtual dj, but when i wanted to start playing at clubs i HAD to learn how to use Serato.

  • @brayitonnfilms ok, much appreciated man!

  • @MrN03yeomana

    you're welcome :]

  • SO much respect for you man, many thanks for your countless videos helping others!!!

  • Thanks man, this has helped loads :)

  • Absoloutley class. Just bought numark axis 9's and cant wait to get mixing house/funky house. One question mate... at the end of that when its set to cue a few seconds in on that certain beat... if you wanted to then skip it back to the start again, is it as simple as just pressing play pause? or skip track back?

    Thanks again, excellent tutorial

  • Greetings from Greece man!!

  • Best DJ tutor on the www

  • what's the name of the CD turntable? I see it used everywhere.

  • @Jlandry95 pioneer cdj1000 mk3

  • thnxdude

  • This beat matching technique is my favorite. Works sooooo well. I usually put the pitch on the incoming track real high to begin. How much I lower it depends on how much faster it is. If I go too far down, go a bit back up. Then I just fine tune. Love this technique.

  • Thanks this helped heaps :)

  • i think its funny how you say hope thats been help... OF COURSE ITS BEEN HELP MAN! you are the only dude i can think of thats spends this much time helping the little people. all your videos are super helpful. respect

  • The cue/pitch up was Damn helpful

  • dootch-da dooch-da dooch-..... uhhh i'll just show you, lolol

  • why do u have to move the 2 to keep them in beat

  • @MsTrance1 because if you just move the jogwheel, the pitch will eventually be off again because you did not adjust it. You could just use the pitch, but that requires a little more of speeding up and slowing down and vice versa.

  • @edyken77 can i ask a question, say one track is at 135 bpm, i hit play on track 2 at exact same kicks, but the second track is say at 140 bpm, the intial kicks are in sync but track 2 speeds up, if i move pitch to where track 2 is at 135, should the kicks still be in sync or do i need to re-press cue

  • @MsTrance1 you need to re-press cue in your instance. matching bpms by the number just means they're going the same speed, it doesn't mean the two tracks are magically aligned. You still have to do that part. Listen on your headphones and adjust the track you're bringing in to line up with the track playing. Watch more ellaskins, he's a good teacher! Let me know if this helped! PEace

  • @edyken77 butt howw do i know if the speed of the song are corecltly the same?? do i have to watch on the bpm of the song and adjust it before the song or do you do it by ear and if so how to do it??

  • @rondamon22m22 this is where learning how to beatmatch without seeing the BPM counter is essential. Put some tape over your BPM counters. Learn how to tell if the song you are cuing up (headphones) is going slower or faster than the track playing outloud. When they get really close it is hard to tell if your new track is moving slower or faster. This is where you need to practice the most. It took me about 3-5 months of solid practice to be able to lock it in real close. Practice is key.

  • @edyken77 my cd players are kinda cheap so I cannot rely on my bpm counters, I rely on my ears xp

  • @angerfistzalig that's the best way to learn. I learned on belt-driven crap turntables. Learning to beat match by ear gives you valuable arrangement experience too. You learn when to wait and when to go with the next track.

  • @edyken77 thanksss... and i dont want to sound like a newbie butt im starting to enter in the beat matching area and i want to know like how to beat match just listening in my headphones and not in the speakers...

  • @rondamon22m22 You have the right mentality, listen to the headphones with one ear, listen to the outside with the other. I'm 'right eared', meaning my right ear is the one I listen to the headphones with. My left ear concentrates on the music that is playing over the speakers. When your ears are trained well enough and you are able to separate the cue track (headphones) with the playing track, you can then determine if your cue track needs plus or minus speed. headphone volume is key too.

  • doochi dachi doochi daachi

    great tut mate:))

  • i love this man haha,, you re in everywhere dude

  • it does work this technique but personally I think using jog wheel and pitch together with the cue button mainly to cue. Good video though, explains stuff well :D

  • ahah your a funny teacher!

  • Thanks was a vinyl dj that explained alot :D

  • what if i have a midi controller and if i set it to cue>>>i am supposed to hear the track that is being cued in my headphones and the other one coming out of my PA speakers<<<< BUT in my case once i set it to cue i hear the cue in my headphones but it still comes out of my pa speakers at the same time along with my other track??????? I WILL MAKE A VIDEO RESPONSE!!!!

  • Just want to start off and say I am very grateful for the tutorials you have uploaded, a great help for a beginner such as myself.

Have a question though, when beatmatching two tracks. How close does the BPM offset have to be?

  • well explained, is there any programme you can set cue points on a sd card so saves time doing it all on the decks?

  • @tumbleboys With the CDJ 1000 you can save cue points on a SD Card... but I have no Idea how... I saw Armin van Buuren using it.

  • @acearcadia yea i know you can do it on the deck, but i was wondering if there was a way of doing it all on a pc? like connecting the sd card up to the pc and using some sort of programme, maybe traktor

  • @tumbleboys vdj, deckadance

  • @acearcadia beforehand preparation. using a programe

  • helpfull

  • thanx for info!:)

  • thanks for all these! very helpful

  • how comes u have diffirent decks in every vid?

  • i just got my cdjs and mixer today after using a controller with vdj for a few months and after 2 hours of fukkin around i only managed to beatmatch one song :O much respect for vinyl dj's :P

  • @nathan925 dude, same here. frustrating. visually, though without sync button, its so much easier. it's gonna be a long day, mate

  • @nathan925 its a bitch hey.... how u going with it now?

  • do u dj in clubs mate

  • dude, you are the man. seriously. Doo Ch Duu Ch!

  • Not this cunt again

  • @Sean9014 easy...

  • why do you have to use a combination of the jog wheel and the pitch slider?

  • @YoungElephants Pitch slider changes the BPM throughout the whole song. Jog wheel is basically just temporarily adjusting the BPM.

  • Like this way to beatmatch but i believe when you pressed cue on the CDJ that while holding cue you can press the play/pause button and it will keep playing is this true:)

  • @TheSuperlucas11 Yeah... THats what i do

  • Watch my Mix!

    /watch?v=kBxc1IHviik

    /watch?v=kBxc1IHviik

    Bangin Electro house/Dirty Dutch!

  • what songs did he use for this

  • deck 1 = 130 bpm - 0% pitch

    deck 2 = 131 bpm - 0% pitch

    how to beat match ?

    deck 1 = 131 bpm - +0.80 % pitch

    or

bring deck 2 down to -0.80 % pitch which will make it 130 bpm, the same as deck 1....

its a piece of piss 0.80% pitch = 1 bpm this guy is doing it the hard way

  • @sammyura where did you get that ?? i would say this doesn't work !! i tried it !!

    deck 1 at 122 bpm deck 2 140 bpm deck 2 140bpm - (18*0,8%) = - 14,4 = 119,8 bpm

  • @sammyura and what if the percentage is set to +-6 or +-16??

  • when i have the master tempo ON , and i beat match the tracks .they seem to go of beat then ive got to mess with the jog wheel and bang the beets together ... when i have the master tempo OFF im locking the beets together much better . why is that ?anyone ..

  • as a total beginner this is my favourite way to practice beatmatching. It allows you to focus on first beatch matching by getting the speed of both tracks the same, then getting them 'in beat', and then you can play with the cross fader, effects etc etc all you like!

  • how fast is the cd spinning inside of the deck? I'm wondering because the light blue wheel doesn't seem to rotate very fast and real cd players spinn pretty fast, right?:)

  • @HjalmarGuitarMaster

When you spin the deck on the side, its a very smooth spinning = so it spins very slow

if you spin the deck on the top it normally spins very fast, but it pretends on how fast you set up the spin-speed for the deck.

  • @HjalmarGuitarMaster The light on the top is no relation to how the CD is spinning in the deck. The player actually analyses the track to get the BPM (and I'm guessing), stores the track in memory if it's not too long so that the player is not effected by any jolts/bumps like your home cd player.

  • you beat match to introduce a new track into your mix.

  • when you beat match, you obviously use 2 copy,s of the same song? or no? im VERY new

  • @ReaperRM01 no. you have one track playing on deck 1. say it goes at 128BPM (beats per minute). you want to bring in another track form deck 2, but it's spinning (in your headphones) at 130BPM. that means you have to beatmatch track 2 and track 1, thus slowing track 2 down by listening to it in the headphones. i hope that was clear enough :)

  • @ReaperRM01 dude im new too hahah but i think he is using to different tracks

  • great vid what dj turntable is that

  • @GLGAMERS Hi (: - that is the so called CDJ 1000 from pioneer! not aviable any longer due to the new CDJ 900 and 2000!

  • @GLGAMERS cdj 1000 probly

  • hi can you tell me what song like the beat you was using i just need some beats on their own with no singing do you know where i can get some

  • im pretty new to this genre of music so im having a hard time on what exactly is he looking for when hes messing with the pitch? can anyone explain?

  • the easiest way i've found to do this is to make a 4 beat loop from the first beat of your track.. that way you wont have to press cue over and over again and when the time comes to throw it in, you'll start from the first beat of the track : ) and when you do throw it in, all you have to do is press loop out and there u go! ; )

  • this guy is the BEST

  • ellaskins this may sound stupid but could you make a video on identifying the first beat of a track because sometimes its well hidden, btw im an absolute beginner.

  • Thanks for all your vidoes, they are so helpfull!!!!!

  • pioneer cdj 1000 mk3 i thing :P:P

  • pioneer cdj 1000 mk3

  • What turntables are they ????

  • @djpjineffect also they are cd decks not turntables and they are the cdj1000mk3 as they have the silver pitch slider

  • thanks for help ur whole vedios very good

  • I'm a proper beginner and some of this stuff is confusing me. The song tempo obviously changing hundreds of times during each song? Does that not mean the mix will be thrown off loads off times?

Also when I hear a bad mix I can't tell which 1 is faster or slower! How can I help this?

  • @adamennis999 the tempo rarely changes even once during a dance song

  • @RyanPridgeon Really? :O Can you tell me that if you get a song and a beat with the same bpm .... is it guaranteed to be on time etc. and sound right?

  • @adamennis999 you can have two songs with the same bpm and they can still go off. if you press the cue button on time the beats will line up, but if you are slightly off with your timing and press the button too soon you will have to slightly use the pitch bend or platter to slow it down. that doesnt mean the tracks are different speeds it just means the beats havent lined up and one has a head start on the other one.

  • Thanks a BUNCH. I didn't think of using the obvious techniques pointed out in this video. D:

  • this is how i beatmatch, except rather than using cue button i save my cue point to the hot start and use this, as that also returns to the beginning of the cue point wen its pressed.

  • Excellent tutorial I have denon

  • thats just summed up exactly where i go wrong. i roll back/forward the jog wheel but never altered the pitch. thanks for the upload very much :)

  • Oh my god thats EXACTLY how i beat match. Thats fuckin great.

  • Lol ... Your spoken explanations are quite understandable mate! :D

  • the vertical switch on the right is to control the pitch right? Then what does turning the jogwheel anti-clockwise and clockwise do? Why must you move both to beatmatch?

  • adobeexcel, yeah your right about the pitch control. So in the middle its set to 0, if you move it up it makes the 'record' spin slower then if you push it down it goes faster. So if one song is faster you can move the pitch control down to make the slower song be just as fast bpm wise. The jogwheel just will move you to different points of the song, but if the pitch is at 0/middle it will always move the same speed.

120bpm vs 130bpm would require pitch change to stay inbeat

  • by the way this is just what I think... i haven't started messing with this stuff. I am getting a my first mixer in a day or two from a buddy.

  • @AdobeExcel i think of it like this, the jog wheel is a temporary change in pitch, IE finding where u want the pitch to be, then the pitch control slider is a permanent pitch change, which u can adjust after uve found your bpm with the jog wheel.

  • this totally made a lot of sense for me as a beginner. i started with vinyl and every time i encounter an mp3 or cd mixer button, i get hella confused with the functions of the CUE and PAUSE/PLAY button. i will now practice and enjoi! THANK YOU!

  • Thanks a lot for this. Exactly what I was looking for!

  • he must have some ears !! =D

  • you made very useful videos, thanks a lot!

  • is there any mode where the jog wheel of the cdj 1000 mk3 turns as if it was a vynil ?

  • @12erererer its called vinyl mode.

I think the 1000s have it, I have 400s and they have it

  • u're way of how u match the beats ..is amazing :D

  • so to do this you need the job wheel in pitch bending mode not scratch, yeah?

  • Youre greath!!!

  • best cdj 1000 - video!

  • hahahah u lost urself at 20 xD

    thx john!

  • damn thanks bro!

    This sure helped me =D

  • nice

  • yer helped alot thanks mate i got the gemini cdj203 just aving abit of trouble getting the beat to start on the cue button coz when i try to fine tune it with the jog wheel it just skips where as in this video it dont got any ideas of other ways to do this as you can probaly tell im a begginer lol : )

  • in this video you show how you change the cue button so that it starts at a different point in the tune rather than the begining when you do this you press play pause then u find the beat with the jog wheel and then press cue and it then starts at that point can all cdjs do this because when i press play pause and then go to use the jog wheel to get the beat that i want the cue to start from it jus skips ive tried pressing the jog mode button to pitch bend and search but neither work HELP

  • Depending on your brand/models etc. But on the Denon DNS-3700 and other Denons i belive, you change the cue point by stoping the music with CUE; moving the plater to the point you want, then hit play. this changes the cue position on my denons atleast, hope it helps :)

  • Quick start is more better as jumping on your Cue can cause brakeing it up.

  • amazing thanks alot

  • Amazing Video As Always!

  • man you are a genius!!! thanx a lot!!!

  • Holy shit he is good at beatmatching

  • can someone please tell me how sensative the wheel is when beatmatching, it seems usesless unless i move it a lot, I have cdj400

  • Thanks man, it was really informative.

  • Love the video buddy I'm just starting out I've been djing for for a few months and this really helped me our for trying a new side of things... Now I'm getting pretty good at mixing tracks thanks too you.... Keep up the good work I love your stuff

  • What is those headphones??

  • PIoneer HDJ-1000

  • Pioneer hdj 1000

  • very good, your brillant keep the video's coming think i watch you nearly every day lol

  • Hey! you say that you should use the jogwheel and the pitch together..or that there is no point in moving the jogwheel and not the pitch...can you say al little bit more why?

  • @stineldo along with adjusting pitch control u move a jogwheel to get 2 beats perfectly together. if u just work with pitch control it would take a longer period of time to beatmatch, also if u just move the jogwheel without adjusting tempo of your track it would always go offbeat, simply because you don't match the speed of it but trying catch on the beat..

  • @egorrec how sensitive is the jogwheel, it seems useless on my cdj400, I dont notice any difference unless I spin the thing quite abit. I can beat match, but after 30 sec its outof beat, and then I want to adjust it with the wheel, but the thing sucks!!!!! settings? or more practice???

  • Oh forgot to ask, title of the song you use?

  • Great man, you make it easy and fun.

Pure pleasure to watch and listen, you are an expert on this field. 5 / 5 !

  • lifesaver

got a gig in a few hours and i havent used cd decks before.

brought the trusty vinyl just in case tho!

  • anyone else get "an error occurred, please try again later"?

  • just wait and try again later ^-^
