The Southern US Irish soldiers were spent(five years fighting a force 5x your number will do that), and the South was razed and needed rebuilding, so they weren't as eager as the Northern Soldiers to repeat that process in Ireland.

@CelticTiger7 Man, read Robert Mckee's excellent book, he is neither biased towards Ireland or otherwise, I think you need to read a little bit more on history before you start spewing inaccuracies, both Connolly and Larkin (both from Edinburgh and Liverpool) where neither born in Ireland but are considered great Irishmen, De Valera on the other hand was born in New York and was a complte gobshite, so there you go.
