  • I think finger waves are SO ugly .. but I do have respect that you took the time to actually put this on youtube for those who want it.

  • thank you this is so helpful!!!!! :D

  • so complicated but such a good result@@@

  • I learned how to do these in a cosmetology school and it was nothing like how you did it! You actually took your time and actually went ALL the way around the head! Lol we only learned how to do it ontop of the head and on the side. It was sloppy and way to fast but your way was awesome. I think i'm gonna try it tomorrow on my own hair. I tried it today for an interview but i forgot how to do it lol Thanks for sharing this was really awesome.

  • You are so talented. This is the best finger waves tutorial I have ever seen.

  • wow.. I could never do this... :D

  • Best fingerwave demo I've seen on Youtube, thanks so much for this!!!

  • Hunny that was flawless :O) great job...I am African American, but your technique seems fitting for all curly/ kinky hair. i am going to try this. THANKS

  • Loved the style! My hair is move longer, although wavy a well. I wonder if it would work with longer styles, kind of like a Madonna look.

  • Now, your model has curly hair. Will this technique also work on straight abd wavy hair? Because i do hair and make up for my high school theater dept. and we have a musical coming up set in the thirties that this would be perfect for.

  • Stylists looks so scared lol

  • this is quite difficult haha

  • Great video! I am looking at going into Cosmetology school soon (within the next 3 months). great job!

  • @SHESTALL that's exactly what I was thinking!! Great video just learned how to do this in school today so pretty anxious to test it out on someone.

  • About how long does this take?

  • are you in hair school? i am and we recently learned how to do finger waves but we pull the hair and pinch it between two fingers. you did a great job tho! :) nice video!

  • @shelbyweidekamp I graduated in March last year and am now licensed and working in a salon. This is the way I learned to do them in school and I find it to be the easiest and also they hold the best. If your way works for you then thats great. Good luck in school! Thanks for the nice comment :)

  • Great Job I love it.

  • I've tried to do this finger waves, but with my long hair, it was disaster. Than I separated front part, which is shorter and it was great, curled rest of the hair, formed the bun... Thank you for this amazing video and for inspiration!

  • It looks super! I will definitely do this for the 20's party I'm going to. One question: how long did it take to do this?

  • How pretty it came out, I will try next time.:)

  • too much work

  • not even my cosmo teacher can make finger waves look that good! :P

  • i study cosmetology so i know how HARD finger waves can be. I have try for months to get my finger waves to look perfect and i havent, so yours look pretty amazing! :P

  • Great tutorial! The end product looked awesome. I'm going to attempt it but I'm sure it's much more difficult than you make it look. You make it look so easy!

  • I didn't like it..

  • This is the most authentic hair tutorial on YouTube

  • This has to be the best finger wave tutorial I'VE seen (=

  • thank you so much for this tutorial. definitely the best one yet.

  • Thumbs up is at 7:34 you looked for your phone.

  • i cant do a faux hawk now cuz i have bangs is there a way i can work around it??

  • you are amazing!!!! its so beautiful and looks kind a easy ... doesnt metter that its not, you are natural...

  • This is sooo cute!

I love how you used the traditional method, really fascinating, I didn't know that's how they were done!

    Thanks for this.

  • i was tired only watching this!i would never thought trying this!!!!nice result though!

  • Beautiful! She looked like a Gibson girl by the time you were done with her! I have wild hair and I wonder if this can tame it somewhat.

  • Thanks for sharing, it's always great to experience history as one sees it.

One matter I've noticed is the final result of this video shows the hair looking wild on the sides. I'm comparing it now to photos from the 1920s and the finger waves of that time look

more orderly. Is the style you did also one they used back then or did you add your own personal touch to it?

  • @ManilaSyndicate the style that I did is not wild on the sides, its how pin curls look when combed out. It created a fuller, softer curl. Finger waves and pin curls create two different looks, the style I demonstrated has finger waves on the top section and pin curls on the bottom. This is typically how you would style finger waves on a longer bob. Finger waving all the way down would not work since the hair needs to be combed against the scalp, and the hair exceeds that in length.

  • @thriftycreations Thanks for the explanation, and it would be nice to see more of your vids. Hopefully you can do demonstrations on other eras, like the Victorian and Edwardian styles. That would be nice to see.

  • Shouldnt a finger wave have 4 ridges?? This is definitly a different way to do them that is for suure, Im not suure I like it tho. although your finger wave is well done and not dragged, however, it seems this technique gives your waves lots of splits in the hair. Overall good job though, they are tough to master thats for sure

  • how do you set the hair at night to maintain it for the following day?

  • Haha i can only hope i will be able to get my hair like this! Our school does a "wax museum" for our grade and we all dress up like a person and do a speech. i chose Grace Kelly so i thought that it would be cute for this:)

  • amazing!!!

  • How do you maintain this hairstyle?

  • BEST FINGER CURLS ON UTUBE

    GREAT JOB!

  • You just made it look easy and NICE better then the way my teacher has shown us in class

  • i wear extensions and there kinda hard to manage... do you have any advice on how to do finger waves on my natural hair and the extensions? thanks. i really want to wear my hair like this for prom.

  • how to make this for long hair?

  • OMG !!!! Did people form the 20's do all of this??? It is sooo dificult!!!! XO

but the final out come it's beautiful, i liked it you are very talented and patient : )))

    Thx for posting!

  • That hairstyle reminds me of Lady Edith's from Downton Abbey!

  • Nice, just wish I had time and energy to do it my self (if that'd were even possible) kudos *****

  • MERAVIGLIOSA ACCONCIATURA, MA NON RIESCO A VEDERE BENE DA DIETRO PERO..

    UFF

  • Best finger wave/hair tutorial I have ever seen. I subscribed. Liked it. And favorites. I think everyone should too. ;-)

  • Amazing job, learning these in school and I love your technique gel seems easier than fingerwave solution :)

  • Wow this is professional! :)

  • Any advice for someone who has shoulder length but extremely thick and straight heavy hair? I spend two hours trying to do this, but my hair is so heavy that even with clips holding the waves it sagged and fell down, even with a lot of gel. Your model's hair magically stays exactly where you put it.

  • Love the hairstyle, but it looks like it took a while to do though...

  • I Love You!!!!! I Love This Tutorial!!!! I have been searching for finger wave video's all day and Yours By Far Is The Very Best!It It took me back to school day's! I so appreciate you sweetheart :D

  • this was awesome!!!! im a boy and i think ill try it on myself haha

    not even kidding

  • This is a really good finger wave video, for someone like my self that has trouble this is helpful :) great end result!

  • The model kinda look like Milan kunis

  • This is the best finger wave demonstration I've ever seen, and that includes in Beauty School!! I am doing my friend's hair like this for her wedding and I don't have or have money to get a bonnet dryer. She has pretty thick hair too. Any suggestions? Do you think just drying it on low heat work work?

  • @MsLauralei37 I definitely would not suggest attempting this style without a hooded dryer. Even with the dyer it takes about an hour to dry, maybe longer if the hair is thick. Using a handheld dryer just doesn't work. Its very important that the hair dries all the way before styling otherwise it will not look right, and you don't want to risk that on someone's wedding day. I am sure the parents of the bride wouldn't mind pitching in for the dryer, or maybe a few bridesmaids can give $10 each.

  • @thriftycreations Hi there, it was a quick wedding and no extra money for a dryer. We ended up leaving her hair in pin curls for 24 hrs and it turned out beautiful. I used bobby pins turned backwards so the crimped side wouldn't crimp the curls. It took that long for her hair to completely dry and she said it wasn't uncomfortable to sleep on them... I'm not sure she slept much anyhow though. :D thanks for the advice and next time I'm investing in the dryer!

  • @thriftycreations I have a suggestion that you don't finger through the hair so much after it is dry cause then it will be less frizzy and more like the actual 1920 style.

  • @thriftycreations But other than that it was a very helpful video. Thank You! :)

  • @MsLauralei37 I see them at thrift stores all of the time for under $10.00 dollars. . You can buy one new like a "Conair Pro Style Hair Dryer" for $29.00 new. as well but I would look at a few 2nd hand stores.... Good Luck!

  • @MsLauralei37 Perhaps you can rent one? (:

  • @lalafunnys Thanks for the suggestion... the wedding has come and gone... we ended up just leaving it finger waved and in pin curls overnight and it turned out ok. I am going to invest in a dryer for the future though.

  • Amazing job. She's ready to walk on to a movie set with that hair!

  • what ... -*-

  • Someone pick up the phone!! the vibration is killing me!!! lol

  • impresionantemente hermosa

  • Very helpful and great demonstration!!

  • Doll head*

  • I've done a fingerwave on a fool head with short hair in school. This weekend im going to try on someone with long hair. Hope I can do it!

  • she looks like she regrets being the guinea pig for this XD

  • can this be with a blowdryer ?

  • i have a question? she has gel only on the front hair? or n all ?

  • I love your videos, they're very helpful, thank you

  • That was amazing!! Wow, I really want to try this, but I don't think I could do it on myself :P

  • Awesome video ! This helped me out a lot!

  • I love this very much! I have searched the internet for quite a while now for a finger wavy, pin curly, twenties hair that looks authentic yet still usable on my lenght of hair. Extremely well done!

  • Your model is sooo pretty

  • And this works on thick and long hair too? How would I go about achieving it for my long and thick hair?

  • @FlairGrapes Actually probably not. You could try it but it would take forever to dry. I have long thick hair myself and am going to figure out the best way to achieve this style and post it here later.

  • Brilliant tutorial thanks. Really liked the end result

  • This is really well illustrated for the combing technique. I've done this myself, but always had a hard time working it back around the head from the instructions in my vintages hair styling books. Its great to see it well done in action! I think I prefer actual hair setting lotion; my hair is naturally wavy, but doesn't hold man-made curl very well, and gel tends to weigh it down too much.

  • The end result is amazing. I especially love that there are not bobby pins or clips in sight!

  • this is so difficult.im in school for hairdressing.& i had alot of trouble trying to maintain this look on the

    maniquin

  • The model is so pretty. Her eyes look grey!

  • great video so very helpfull thanks heaps

  • do you have to use gel or can you use mousse?

  • Thank you, your tutorial was very helpful............I think I can pass my State Boards now!

  • best video I have seen to do this hair style

  • OMG such a good tutorial, thank you! I could never figure out how to do this before.

  • very nice video, you are an excellent instructor!!!

  • man i love how you took a clasic old look and made it somthing that is wearable now! great video

  • man i love how you took a clasic old look and made it somthing that is wearable now! great video

  • WOW. I wish I could do this to my hair.

  • The blonde one looks gorgeous!

  • this is by far the best finger wave video on youtube.....it was easy to see and understand how to do it...thanks for posting

  • This is the BEST finger wave tutorial!! =) Thank u for this video!!

  • Hands down, one of the best and clearly demonstrated tutorial on how to create finger waves. OMG. Finally.

  • great job!!!!! Looks amazing..

Lots a work though!! But really cool

  • can i do this if i have hair about to the middle of my chest?

  • Wow, it looks really great!

This might seem like a stupid question, but is it possible to do this on your own hair? It seems slightly impossible, haha...

  • One of the BEST tutorials on fingerwaves out there! Thank you!

  • Omg I loveeeeeeee it !!!!!!!

  • awesommmmmmmme this is the best tutorial on finger waves i've seen yet

    thankyou

  • thanks for the help i needed it alot today i wanted to through the head acrossed the room

  • You're a brilliant teacher, thank you for this. You don't waffle on or anything but give all the extra tips that would be asked once actually there, trying to replicate it. Keep it up!

  • this is beautiful work!!! for someone with baby fine short, pixie cut in the front, and neck length in the back, and straight hair, Could you show me how to do this on my kind of hair? Please and thank you!!!!

  • can we dry natural the hair??

  • @Connielein1 If you let the hair dry naturally it would take hours and hours... maybe if you try doing it at night and sleeping on it, its just that you might crush the curl. If this is a look you want to achieve often its definitely worth it to get a hooded dryer. You can find them online for very inexpensive.

  • GOSH that is so gorgeous:)

  • amazing!

  • @AmandaKayChaney I would do it exactly the same, except if the hair is too short to pin curl, you can just finger wave it all the way down. For a wedding you would definitely want to do a trial run before to see how it turns out and to see how long it will take you especially for the drying. I use the Conair PerfectFit Collapsible Hard Hat Bonnet Dryer from Bed Bath and Beyond, its really great and inexpensive. I hope this helps you!

  • THIS IS AMAZING definitely the best finger wave tutorial on youtube. -new subby

  • that looks fantastic! i could watch you doing those wet styles all day. please PLEASE post more like this!!!

  • Loveee it!!!!

  • Great video!Very informative!Thank you!!Your technique very easy to follow!! I am really surprised that you don't have more hits! This hairstyle so popular right now!

    Thanks again! X

  • Can you do this style on someone with straight hair (bob cut)? Want this hair style!

  • @janellecruz yes you can! I did it on my sister who has a straight bob. Its just easier on people with curly hair because the hair naturally wants to take the S shape.

  • this was probably the best one ive seen :) wooh!

  • omg thanks for this video, i'm actually doing this in beauty school & i couldn't quite get it right by my teachers technique but, yours totally gave me a better understanding of how to do it!

  • wow, that was really labor intensive...pinning all the curls...you make it look easy!

  • @angieshel haha thanks! I know, I take really small sections for the pin curls because I'm kind of a perfectionist... but you can achieve a beautiful result taking larger sections for the curls as well :)

  • OH my god! Yay! Thanks for sharing this look.
