The un-smooth underside of Defenders can be a weakness in deep snow. Has its advantages though. Besides, I imagine a more modern LR with ETC would have been fine.
The unsmooth underside of a defender??????? The "unsmooth underside" of the defender is 3 inches higher than that LC. Does the LC owner wax and polish the underside of his car????
Dont know if you noticed, but as soon as the land cruiser hit the hill it slowed down because they are to heavy and just spin the tyres up, and the defender clearly catches up, And There is no point going off road with standart tyres so its the defenders fault it got stuck
basically, the driver was way too inexperienced to drive the landrover he has just purchased home, so he had to tow it back with some ugly thing on wheels that deserves no name
this is not a test :/ why do we all fight on it..... we dont know which tires landy is running on. could possibly not be snow tires with him. Stupid to come here without propper winter tires though. And even a land cruiser would be stuck with summer tires up here. So lets not fight and enjoy both the SUVs :) (personally, i prefer Land Rover Defender over Land Cruiser, but highly respect Land Cruiser as well)
i own a 1986 hj75 land cruiser but all u fuck knuckles saying defenders r shit, u r so wrong, they r brilliant 4x4's and so r land cruisers! When u put the to best 4x4's next to each other it comes down to the driver, and land cruisers and defenders r the 2 best 4x4's out there XD
Are you kidding oe what, maybe you pulled out the land rover and you kept the strap, but in the video it never shows that the cruiser is pulling even its wheels,,
the land rover is walking with honnor by the way that the cruiser is dying to make it,,
i love cruisers and i respect the land rovers,, i tried both,,,
go screw urself,, the land cruiser is dying to drive in the snow,,, and the toe strap is leak,,,the deffender didnt spin wheels,,, by the way the toyota is pushing hard,,,
man,,,, dnt mess with the kings,, its a land rover with all my respect to the toyota,, because i have a toyota and a land.,,,
@freedom254 Yes i agree i think are getting more unreliable with there updated models now specially the range rovers they easily over heat and ive got discovery mk1 and it always needs new parts every time it needs to get a mot but i would defrently rely on a defender
@dddddddgggggggggg Well it is all down to personal choice I suppose, I live in Africa and my personal choice will always be Landcruiser as in the remote places there is no roadside assistance. I am not so concerned about comfort as much as getting to my destination. Landcruisers are known for going right around the mileage clock here without major problems and with being subjected to harsh conditions. They both good 4X4 vehicles but with advantages and disadvantages on both sides.
Its all about tyres - which ever has the better one will win. I have to be honest though - in slippery conditions traction control is a big help - but all newer Land Rovers have traction control as well. Including the Defender. Also notice most of the time the tow strap was slack =so was it really stuck?
great come back. lol I must ad that my rangie classic is right up there in the battel for best 4x4, as i only payed $1000 for it. To get a truck that matches it you would spend a small fortune. I LOVE MY RANGIE!
I've seen Defenders being pulled out of places by lesser cars before. But that doesn't mean these cars are better than the Defender. Each situation is a different situation
I've owned Jeeps, Fords, Toyotas and Land Rovers. My Landy has TC and CDL, I will take it over the others by far. My second would be a Toyota. I do believe the older Toyotas FJ are the best looking vehicle out there still however.
I've owned both a diesel 110 and a FJ80 land cruiser. After nine Land Rovers and one Toyota, I'll never own another Land Rover again. My FJ80 has locking front and rear differentials and has walked up all the hills that sent my old 110 bucking backwards. It walked up them with the A/C on while I was listening to a CD and didn't break my back. I still love the look of the 110 but there is no comparison when it comes to ability, comfort, reliability and quality.
except that it is widely known that the Defender kicks any other 4x4's ass. That's the only thing that doesn't fit what you're saying. I'm more inclined to believe you're selling FJ80's or something lol
Which one have you owned? I suspect neither. Another armchair critic with no functional knowledge of either truck. I'd be impressed if you could point out even a few engineering differences between the two.
You're right! I am an airmchair critic! However in my airmchair, I have access to communication devices such as TV, and the Internet, where I saw lots of times said by many people, that the Defender is the undisputed king of 4x4. So now I see you saying a Toyota is better I imediatelly think the problem is not in the car but in the driver. Either that or everybody is lying and you are telling the truth... I also know a lot of motorcycle racing for example and I neved raced.
But I don't want to find out I'm right. I would love to see a car actually beating the Defender. A car that was more comfortable etc. If you make or show me a video which definitelly proves that. I will say: "wow you're right after all!" :)
When you have real first hand experience you opinion will mean something to me. While your sitting at your computer this weekend I'll be out in my BJ70 or FZJ80 heading out to some remote fishing spot. A defender is a top notch 4x4. I think Land Cruisers are better built. My Bj70 has 400,000 Km on it and still goes to the end of the world. I think I've owned enough of each marquis to have an opinion. You on the other hand? I'll consult you if I need an armchair.
I'm just going to give you an example of how inexperienced knowledge can sometimes be more useful than experience knowledge. It's pretty possible that the engineers that built your car have never offroad in their lives. knowledge does not require empiric experience.
I can learn something about your cars that you don't know about just using the internet. A friend of mine is an engineer and he tells me lots of things that many experienced people will never know about some cars for example.
Than research it and you'll learn something. I've restored both makes from the frame up. My TDI had a rubber timing belt and my old toyota 3B has a gear drive. Which one would you want to cross the empty quarter desert in. When you actually do learn something about these trucks we'll debate, until then your just running your mouth off about a subject you have no practical or first hand knowledge of. Go back to your TV or internet couch potato.
You seem to know more than I thought about this. You definitelly know much more than me! But I still think it was unfair for you to say the Toyota was "far" better than the Defender when I saw some reviews saying the Defender was the best. By the way, which one would you want to cross the empty quarter desert in? I saw in a website that timing belts synthesized all the good points of belt drive, chain drive and gear drive :)
I still love the Defender and they are catching up. They do have some advantages like: no birfields, little body rust, axle articulation and with a set of lockers a defender would be stiff competition for any 4x4. Toyota reliability is second to none and having factory lockers is like cheating off road. I took my 110 to hell and back but I feel the 80 with lockers is better. I'll give you that, it wasn't far better but did out preform my 110. Defenders are still one of the best.
After what I've been seeing, between those 2, I would probably choose the Land Cruiser too,as a whole car, both road and offroad also because of Toyota's reliability. I usually offroad every week but with a 125cc motorcycle heheh.
With an intelligent comment like that you must be a Mensa society member. I should reconsider a decade of practical, hands on experience because of a comment by a half wit? When your IQ exceeds room temperature we'll talk. Until then your bringing a musket to a machine gun fight. Grow up looser you cant afford a defender anyway.
lol it's what I say... these guys must be selling Toyotas :). Only an ignorant would read the "Toyota is far better than the Defender" comment and not laugh. There's a difference between not knowing how to use a 4x4 and a 4x4 actually not being able to do something. :)
el defender es mas fuerte que el land cruiser solo hay que hacerle una pequeña modificacion........cambiarle el piloto-The defender is stronger than the land cruiser , just need a small modification ............... change the pilot ........
no hay necesidad de jalar al defender, vean que la mayor parte del tiempo la cuerda iba por el piso, lo que pasa es que el LandCrusier tenia más agarre, pero el defender paso por su propia cuenta!!!

No comparision between an centre diff lock and a front and rear locking diff vehicle more like it. Ahh Toyota fans, is objectivity an optional extra?
Currently Defenders (AU) have optional F&R diff locks and standard TC, AC and CD.
