  • I think she forgot to mention: they love to lick people, snore and take over the bed and sofa.

  • No, the American Staffordshire Terrier was Pete the Pup in Our Gang, not Petey from The Little Rascals.

  • People, read the damn history of the race.

In 1936 the AKC recognized the Pit Bull under the name of "American Staffordshire Terrier". And the bastards breeding their dogs for fighting kept naming their dogs Pit Bulls.

Practically, at that time, the Pit Bull and the Amstaff were the same. Later, the Amstaff breeders selected for breeding only the individuals that fit a physical pattern. The pitbull breeders selected theirs by the strength of the bite, the endurance and so on.

  • Between these tho breeds, the American Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier was not introduced the blood of any other breed. They are the same, but they are just different in shapes, temperament and sizes.

  • @ nelly 160

You need to think before you speak. Petey was ABSOLUTELY a Pit Bull terrier. The Amerivan Bulldog is a new breed.

  • Petey was an American bulldog not an american pit bull terrier..idiots

  • @PaleGoldLizard I think that Great Danes look better with cropped ears also but it's seldom seen anymore. And, yes, Dobermans benefit in looks from the upright ears but more and more the ears are left natural. Ear cropping will eventually disappear altogether, I believe, simply because fewer and fewer veterinarians are willing to do the procedure. If there's nobody left to do it, how can anyone have it done....?

  • @PaleGoldLizard

Actually Dobs look better with uncropped ears as do boxers. Would you crop your kid's ears?

  • actually petey was an amstaff so was sgt stubby so you are wrong

  • ceaser millan has 2, but one passed away in feb. 2010, age 16

  • pit bulls are american staffs just like german shepherd are alsatians

  • @gsd767 oh really? why write something you obviously know nothing about.

pitbulls are not american staffys you fucking moron. fight them and see.

  • @CommandoFuture in the uk were we class pits as american staffs and u r a sick bastard i hope u get cancer and aids die go to hell

  • Is this an Amstaff or APBT video? People often tend to hijack these comments threads when these dogs are the topic. Differences in the breed that I know of. Purebred Amstaffs come from a a smaller gene pool due to the fact they are mainly show dogs. AKC standards for the breed is tighter than the UKC.

A staffie is a Staffordshire bull terrier - shorter and stockier than the APBT and American Staffordshire terrier or Amstaff. Amstaffs are athletic alarm dogs who hate to be alone.

  • haha same as apbt just under different registrations

  • They don't need any guard dog training?? ALL dogs need guard dog training to be reliable. A dog may not need WATCH dog training, but they do need guard dog training.

  • @HowToGetFreebies Despite what this bitch said, Amstaffs are horrible guard dogs if untrained. The reason they are such bad guard dogs is because they are so gentle with people. Amstaffs will not guard unless trained.

But your wrong about all dogs needing to be trained. There are lots of breeds bred to be top-quality guard dogs with no training. Looks like you need to look up Livestock Guardian Dogs.

  • @bluegama500 Get a life

  • @Cesaritismo lol how ironic for you to say that. Your just an Amstaff fanboy who will stand up for his favorite breed no matter what.

I'm just telling the truth. Amstaffs are horrible guard dogs if untrained.

  • @bluegama500 I find any dog can be terrible if not structured properly.

  • my dog is only 9 mo old and shes a guard dog LOL! but shes so nice once she sees the person outside is coming in she shuts up and begs for a petting, Pit Bulls r gr8 dogs, but VERY misunderstood, screw dog fighters, they just dont wanna let people no they have small weenies, and one time i was walking my pit bull Bamboo and a lady was jogging and stopped and turned around as soon as she saw Bamboo (shes actually 75% Pit Bull and 25% lab) and i made a face at my mom like WTF! ses so cute tho! :)

  • amstafs r pitts essentially...

  • If you trace the ancestry of any APBT or AmStaff back far enough you'll find common ancestry. They are basically the same breed under two separate registrations. Neither one is really mean unless you deliberately make them that way but both tend to have a high level of animal aggression, especially toward any dog that will challenge them. Once they get mad it's hard to calm them down again.

  • @JackKangaroo1

They are terriers and their instinct is to chase small vermin and kill it. All terriers are this way. They don't get mad, they are tenacious and stay focused on what they want to pursue. Have you ever been around a Kerry blue terrier? They are larger than the bull and terriers and are very tenacious. They aren't as human friendly either.

  • Petty was APBT not AST or EBT or something like that !!!

  • Question : whats the difference between AST and the APBT ?

  • @bioniccock

    Smaller gene pool.

  • learn your history and learn your dog before you start talking false info!!!!!

  • Its becuase idiots like you that theres staffys running around attacking people. They are not lazy! They need lots of energy out burst lots of jogs long walks IDIOT.

  • "Natural guard instinct", i find that hard to believe as every Staffy I've come across would rather lick me and lend it's friendship straight away. On the rare occasion there might be a protective Staffy, other then that, I'm pretty sure a lot of them would require some serious guard dog training.

  • @WildB0i my staffy isnt the best guard dog lol

  • by that they mean they can sense when somthing is wrong or somone bad comes in the house. =D like most dogs... even my shih zue has a Natural guard instinct lol.

  • english staff`s are alot better looking

  • the american staffordshire is bullshit. Staffordshire bull terrier is a proper breed.

  • @sills84

Its very clear you dont know ur ARS from ur ELBOW...tell me what makes one bullshit and the other a proper breed ?

  • what beauty! 10 points!

  • these dogs are good companions .. i have a male pure bred amstaff and hes a teddy bear ..needs alot of attention and is very smart. .. i agree with the whole "they aint bad dogs ..bad owners are bad"

  • my cousin has one of these...he's very lazy and he only gets active when there's a squirrel

  • this lady's info is wrong.

compare to all the other guides out there and trainers she's wrong about them being coach potatoes.

  • my amstaff has got to go on a run everyday or else hell go insane, and hes got plenty of room at home! couch potatoes my ass!

  • @Ramon25D

sounds like you got a real good one there Ramon25D, plenty of excersise..

  • Some attacks but not all came from AmStaff's. I had a cop tell me that a "Pit Bull" had attacked him. It was a Lab. English Bull Terriers, Boxers, Rottweilers...anything with a square head can be confused. There's a lot of ignorant people out there that know nothing about dog breeds.

  • American Pitbull Terriers aren't even taken as a breed by any organization, they are just trained to attack and fight; that's why they are not a breed, they have no use, but fight.

Staffordshire and Bull Terriers are taken as agressive and confused with the APT, but the difference is that bot staff and bull where used at the beggining as fighting dogs and then as company dogs.

"Dog's aren't made bad, people make them bad"

  • Not recognized as a breed? What about the ADBA and UKC, they recognize the American Pit Bull Terrier (and rightfully so) The APBT is a breed of dog like any other and Petey, Stubby, Helen Keller's service dog, and others like them would negate your "they have no use, but fight." comment.

  • Umm the need more exercisse than a little run, they need ALOT of exercise!

  • I was raised with one of these... he would have done anything for us kids.

:) they are truly one of the best breeds.

  • Petey was an APBT. no an AmStaf . . . . this lady was wrong on a bout 2/3 of what she said ... at least she got the name right.

  • Actually, Petey was regestered as both an APBT and Amstaff, a lot of people did that when they were both in the kennel thingers

  • ASPneverAGAIN

Pete the Pup was a famous dog character in Hal Roach's Our Gang (later known as The Little Rascals) during the 1920s and 1930s. Otherwise known as "Pete, the Dog With the Ring Around His Eye", or simply "Petey". The original Pete was an American Pit Bull Terrier named "Pal the Wonder Dog."

Trainer and owner Lt. Harry Lucenay used one of Pal's offspring as Pete in the series after Pal died. This dog, named "Lucenay's Peter", was registered as an AKC American Staffordshire Terrier.

  • @ASPneverAGAIN YES I AGREE WITH YOU! Petey was an APBT. And she was srong. They do need training to be affecient.

  • @ASPneverAGAIN APBT and AmStaffs are very similar. Some registries even recognize them as one and the same.

  • I knew the dog was the same kind as pete the pup! it looks just like him

  • peetey was a pitbull no guard dog it is just like any dog guards its ouner but not guard dog

they are not couch potatoes they need alot of exercise

  • Ugh, this person is BREEDING amstaffs? Just about everything she said is dead wrong!!! "guard dogs"? "couch potatoes"?

  • totaly agree that why we get dogs attacking people cuz the dont get exorcise because of people like this saying its okay if they dont do much

when we had our amstaff if it didnt have walks and stimulation with in a few day it would go mad haha

  • Yea, any dog that's got terrier in it, is gonna have a lot of energy, This isn't a dog who needs a little walk, but nice run. Plus with all that energy obedience should be a must.

  • @nikigurl08

Wow, this comment kind of makes sense in the mire of the rest of them. Yep, all terriers need lots-o-exercise. My Amstaff got very vigorous workouts daily be it playing with his Jolly ball, swimming or long hikes. I taught him to play soccer and he would hit the ball with his muzzle to kick it when not picking it up to run with it. He would catch a full sized Jolly ball - heavy - in mid air if I kicked it towards him and bark if I didn't.

  • My am-staff tipped over the trash containing the remains of a 20 piece from popeyes and the shells from a pound of pistachios. She didn't touch the bones and instead ate every shell. So I started giving her pistachios and she loves them more than milkbones. She will spit out the nut and eat the shell. Is this bad for her?

  • those dos always look like ther smileing

  • @90srock

It's commonly known as a "pit bull grin" and is one of the most beautiful things I can think of.

  • + am staafs pound for pound are alot stronger than the pitbull terrier the pitbull is more lean and bred more for agility and stamina . am staffs are bred more for muscle

  • @smurfarooney2003

sorry mate ur wrong and ur wrong...why dont you put it to the test.

  • Thats aint nothing but pit bull terrier

  • am staffs and pitbulls are very similair there all cousins of the staffordshire bull terrier and bull mastif with a little bloodhound good dogs

  • how wrong can this guy be LOL pits are Am staffs and Staff terriers they all come from bulldogs and terrier and nothing else dumb ass

  • Selective breeding for well over half a century has turned them into quite differentiated breeds; it's like comparing American-bred German Shepards to the ones currently being bred over there. Am Staffs are a lot bulkier and lazier than a purebred Pit Bull; those big-headed, massive blue "pits" like the rapper's have are mutts.

  • Man it's nice to see someone who knows what they're talking about, nicely said. I'm so sick of seeing these idiots on youtube saying that Pit Bulls and Staffordshires are the same breed. It also bugs me when people breed those big blue hippos and call them Pit Bulls.

  • I agree with those hippos...It fits!

  • @TheMicEntertainer2

im 100% with you...its like saying pound for pound humans are stronger than humans..

  • @TheMicEntertainer2

im 100% with you...its like saying pound for pound humans are stronger than humans..

  • ive noticed my pitty doesnt like to fetch they like to get the ball and be chased around has any other owners noticed this i was just wondering if that is a trait of theirs or just one of his wierd habbits

  • it's just your dog's specific trait... BUT... it's not weird. I have a staffy and he likes to fetch, but I also have a pug and he does what your dog does! It's all about the individual dog! XD

  • wow I thought that was just my kangas quirk . She refuses to fetch and just looks at me like "Why'd you throw that now you're just gonna have to go get it." She's got other quirks too like an affection for pistachio shells I'll post that story its hilarious.

  • I love staffs <3

I don't like the fact over the past few years the dogs have got a bad reputation because some people don't raise them responsibly.

  • the myth of these dogs being aggressive is a total farce i have a rotti, a pit bull, and an Australian Shepard who all get along with each other and children and strangers.

  • you said you have three dogs... I heard when you have two dogs of the same sex they don't normally get along well. Is this true?

  • thats not necessarily true my 3 dogs are all female. however i do not know if this is true with males. it depends on the training i guess and the owner.

  • @Honz21 I know what you mean. I have a pit bull, and four cats. She loves the cats, except for the crazy one, from which she keeps a wide berth. All she does is respect that cat, and stay away from her, lol. She loves kids too. She will bark at strangers sometimes, but as long as they don't threaten her, that is all she will do. I don't think she would be a great guard dog.

  • I hate how people like these dogs because of the "Rappers" that have them.

  • The Bulldog comes in a variety of colours and ideally has a smooth, short coat. In the United Kingdom, the breed standard is 55 pounds for a male and 50 pounds for a female, but it is not uncommon for males to be 70 pounds so there for any true full blooded Am Pitbull Terrier or Am Staffordshire Terrier shouldnt get any heavier then these Bulldogs

  • A nice breed if not encouraged for aggression. Very similar to the Bull Terrier but much healthier. Unneutered males will be extremely aggressive towards other dogs, so consider neutering. Fellow I worked with said his unneutered male tore right through a screen door to attack a passing Rottweiler on the sidewalk.

  • THATS RIGHT!!!!!! I guess my name gives me away.

  • me 2 i like dobermans better but this also is a great dog

  • Cool. My cousin had a dobie she was smart as shit. My pit is pretty smart to. Hes got a funny personalty. Ill have pics and videos up soon.

  • i like doberman pinschers way better

  • Me too, but I am not hating on the Amstaff though. They are very fun, though I'm not a terrier fan.

  • if u like dobermans better then why r u watching this video?

  • my favorite breed

  • but... the whole fighting bears thing, not really, they were first bred to bait bulls, and that was most common, they were used in other blood sports, such fighting bears, but that wasnt the main thing they, it was primarily dog fighting and bullbaiting, also you could say rat killing, after blood sports were banned

  • i think what happened was all bloodsports became banned..and went underground so to speak..but people were still getting caught i guess bc its not so easy sneaking a bear, bull, or lion around town without anyone noticing..from that it evolved into pitting dogs against eachother..and so..weird how out of convenience it was born
