The Great Northern war was nothing else then a Russian Victory, They took the title as a European Great Power in the North from Sweden and continued growing strong after the Great Northern War. And if you decide you claim it as a Danish victory in the end of the Great Northern War it was hardly a Danish victory, It was more of a Norwegian etnic victory since they defended their homeland without any aid from the Danes.
The map showing the "Canute kingdom" is actually a map showing where the Vikings homelands were (In the red) and were they colonized. The Swedish-Danish wars in 1658 resulted with Denmark loosing 1/3 of its Kingdom, Skåne,Blekinge, halland,Bohuslän and not just Malmö. The Great Northern war the Danes lost twice actually, First in the year of 1700 and then at 1710. The Swedes hardly got any aid from its "allies" and the Cossacks were never to be trusted (Around 2000 Cossacks helped Karl XII)
@joonte1010 Coalition victory it was yes, Denmark gained by it Dano-Swedish war was almost 50 years behind the Great Northern so has nothing to do with it. And no the map of Canuts empire was a danish Kingdom not Vikings colonized, that was before Canute.
@SAHELLMAND The map you claim to be a map showing the Canute empire is actually a map showing where the Vikings lived and were they explored and settled. Everyone with knowledge about the Viking age know that he never regained full controll over todays Sweden. Sweden back then were divided into several smaller "kingdoms" with their own chieftains, The three strongest where the Svear,Göter and the Gutlanders.
@joonte1010 I dont know where you get your facts from but search Canut up on Wikipedia. Cause what you says is nonsenses it was and empire created before him by the Danes of the conquereing of Britain not where they settled. Cause they settled not just in England but alot other places.
@SAHELLMAND I get my facts from facts, The map you used to show the canuts kingdom is a map that shows where the Vikings lived, Were they settled and explored.
The dark red indicates were the Vikings lived in the 8th century, The red shows were the Vikings expanded e.t.c.. And from i have learned it was Norwegians that settled Normandie? And went to the mediterrean from the West, The Swedes had their bussines in the East and went through the East to the Mediterrean and Constantinopel.
@joonte1010 We can keep argueing like this all day. As long as i know and after what i've learned, Danes went into England and down the English channel and from there down too Europe, Go search of on Normans descendents from the Danes. Norwegians went south to Island and scottish isles and Greenland and Vinland (America) and the buisness danes had in england was not setteling was more like expanding the Kingdom. So Canuts MAP i've put up shows he's possesions and allies. Not settelings.
@SAHELLMAND Yes the first map shows what he ruled, But the 2:e map is something whole different, Thats what i`ve been trying to tell you. Your text is misguiding and makes ppl belivie he owned the whole North and all areas surrounding it to the west and to the East which is false.
@gugagagagreprpr" They became the Normans – a Norman-speaking mixture of Scandinavians, Hiberno-Norse, Orcadians, Anglo-Danish, and indigenous Franks and Gauls."
The hibero-norse and orcadians were Norwegians who came from theyre areas in Brittain. Anglo-Danish were the danish who came from the england area to Normandy.
Correctly it is belived the largest part were danes who setled there but it was a mix of all Vikings.
Rollo himself they still argue if he was Norwegian or Danish.
@Nordost44 Yes true enough, you had to follow the other countries, making wars to look strong haha. But yes it's a shame a union would have been better instead of killing our brothers.
I am sorry about some of the tekst that is wicked up in each others, but it says Denmark will always remember Holland and Brandesburg for thier help in the Dano Swedish war, which pretty much means Denmark exist today.
@SAHELLMAND I dont know with all the great heroic stories a proud nation wiht proud people and a proud nation which is not something i whould call us today can be forgotten.
The majority of what you said from the napoleonic wars up till WW2 was wrong. Other that than, it was alright.
