INFINITELY less painful than the Enbrel Sure-Click! The Sure-click has a MUCH larger bore needle & it pushes the medicine in very quickly, in about 10-15 seconds, which can be so painful. I switched to the Prefilled Syringe after having my latex allergy flare up into a 3-4" welt surrounding the injection site. I've had *no* reactions to the latex in the needle cover in the Prefilled. It has *such* a thin needle you don't feel it going in--just inject slowly to feel little to no pain.
I have been giving myself Enbrel injections for about 4 years. I still remember how much better I felt the next morning after my first injection. Remember, the shot goes in at a 45 degree angle (not 90 degree angle like the nurse earlier said) - this is a subcutaneous injection, not intramuscular. I give the medicine a few minutes to reach room temperature and inject it at a slightly faster pace than the video into my abdomen. Sometimes very quickly if I am in a rush. Its not bad.
You were doing good, but you've crossed sterile field-you touched the site you have cleaned. Also you are injecting very long-you can inject it in about 5 seconds. Also you need to pull up you're muscle just when you're putting in the needle : ) But i think that you already know that : )
Part 1 of 2: I've been on Enbrel 50mg prefilled syringes once a week since 2005 for Reactive Arthritis (Reiter's Syndrome) and a side diagnosis for mild Ankylosing Spond... I get sick less often now that I'm on the Enbrel than before I started. The primary reason is that I am more aware of my surroundings (sick people) and washing my hands before I put my fingers in my mouth or on food that will soon be in my mouth!
I have been on Simponi for over 4years & LOVE it. Now I havent tried any other injection brands on the market. I started with the researchers for the marker of it & almost done with 5yrs. Scary to think how its going to be covered since they paid for it in full I just have to pay for all my travel to & from the hospital. Walgreens price $5,000 one injection last one month. I do my injections in my stomach but was taught I can do it in legs , upper arms, legs. I was told never hit the vein.
Thanks for doing this vid and for explaining about the differences between the pen and the syringe. Was wondering if a doc ever mentioned Emla cream prior to doing the shot it's a numbing cream?
I used Enbrel for almost two years, i then changed to Humira and from today i will be using Simponi. Enbrel ad Humira burn a lot and they are painful, I hope Simponi will be less painful!!
I think you're supposed to go in at a 90 degree angle. It's been a long time since I read anything about Enbrel (I'm an RN). Anyway, you were injecting at a 45 degree angle and if it was meant to go into the muscle it might not have gone in all the way (which means you wouldn't be getting the full dose).
Most drug companies have toll free numbers you can call to talk to an RN who can help you if you need help.
I'm not sure about a generic version. I pay about $25 copay. It costs my insurance over $1500 month though. I would contact enbrel and see if they can help you.
You will feel better for sure, I had a few injections while I was overseas, I went from a lot of pain and not able to walk, to be dancing in about 3 weeks. I love this medicine.
I have been on enbrel for about a yearish? For some reason I can't remember when I started..lol. I'm not a medical professional but if I can be of assistance let me know and I'll give you my contact info.
I ve been doing it in my arm but I think I am inserting it too far. When nurse did it to me first time, I felt a little tingling feeling but I don't feel that when I am doing it myself. I must be doing it wrong.
I am lil scared to do it in my thigh.
how long do you insert your needles? or how long is your needle?
Thanks! I'm going to try te ice next time. I've gotten better at it now and inject the medicine a bit faster. I am very fortunate and grateful to have adequate insurance.
Thanks for your video. I've been on Enbrel .50 ML/wkly for 2 months now. I felt awesome results by the third week. :) I also inject MTX wkly. MTX pills made me vomit. I find that leaving the Enbrel syringe @ room temp for 15-20 minutes takes the edge off of the sting of the injection. I haven't tried injecting it into my stomach yet. I'm still trying to get over my fear of needles while doing all this! Your video is a great service to other patients. Kindest Regards.
I finally did an injection in my abdomen about 5 minutes ago and it was a heck of alot better than in my thigh. I just grabbed a bit, held it at 45 degrees, jabbed it in and pushed. Give it a try. I'll try to remember to record it next time.
that would be pretty cool. im too scared to try it in the abdomen (i feel like i might poke something important) hehehe but yea you should record it! :)
Yikes... Sorry for your RA and having to endure the needles. You'd think that since they have pain "pumps" that there'd be a more effective and efficient way for a medicine such as Enbrel to be injected.
I hate seeing needles so I had to go with the autopen. Kind'a funny, a fireman who hates giving injections. luckily I found that I have a numb spot on the side of my right thigh, so thats where I've been giving myself the injections. I don't have to see it, I don't have to push it in and I don't have to feel it (much).
I have been on Enbrel since Feb 2005....When I first started with the syringe, i know it took me about 30 min (one time) to stick myself!!!!...then i finally got better...but as soon as I stuck myself, I would try to release the medicine as soon as i could. As soon as the autoinjector was available...i switched, and have been on it since.....I love the autoinjector....Good Luck!!!!!
Ok i will make one when i take my shot next week. I developed a skin allergy to the drug and have to take an antihistamine an hour before i take mine.
you prolong the pain so much!! I have been taking enbrel for 2 years now. take it in an area such as your stomach where there is more fatty tissue, you wont even feel the needle. Take it a little more quickly i promise you a more pleasant expirience.

Oh Man, that brings back the memories.
I took enbrel for a while until my insurance
gave out. (It only covered the first $5000.00
of my medications per year.) well anyway
While you wait for it to warm up place ice
on the injection site, that helps.
I have had RA since june 2004.
