I bought a set of these exact speakers when I left the Phillipines in 1972 along with a Sansui 4000 amp....they are still playing well after all these years. I am sure new technology has improved speakers....my kids say they are junk.....oh well
I had similar speakers. The sound they produced was poor and boomy. Even small Tivoli Audio speakers sounded better than them. I threw them out several years ago. Good riddance. By the way, Tivoli Audio speakers are still with me.
gznubouit are you kidding? HAVE YOU REALLY tried them all? Buddy, I have a bunch of vintage equipment INCLUDING the Sansui 2000s. I love them for what they are: A piece of my past! Apart from the nostalgia factor and the cool grills though they sound like crap! Loud, yeah, but boomy, exagerrated highs, no imaging what so ever...Compared to a good pair of modern speakersthey sound like a big boombox! Please know what you are talking about when you make comments like "I have tried them all".
People keep saying "when they were well built"... Well, in those days, it was trial and error. They did NOT know what they know now because so many things were discovered and computer-calculated WAY later. This is why today's HIGH END speakers are much more musical, powerful, reliable and enjoyable. This particular Sansui pair is nothing but a heavy assembly of elements in a boomy box. They even sounded shitty when new. Even most of today's PA speakers sound better than these.
@gznubouit agreed. It is hard to even build a decent 3-way speaker with all of this modern technology. These vintage speakers probably have major cancellation from so many drivers. The cabinet is also thick which reduces its imaging. Most audiophiles today might have a favorite vintage speaker but most vintage speakers are known for the ability to play loud.
@gznubouit Agreed. "Back in the day," components like these we generously called "mid-fi." In many cases, the drivers were well-made (with Alnico magnets and such), and the boxes were heavy, but that doesn't mean they sounded that great. Loud, yes, but not necessarily good. There are quality vintage speakers out there, such as Allison and a few others, but much of the "vintage" equipment is best purchased for their nostalgic value.
@gznubouit You are wrong. These speakers are better made. Hardwood solids and fiberglass insulation, insure that this box is anything but boomy. Who needs computer calculations, when a demo is available. I listen to Jazz and Classical on my Sansui. I've tried them all.
@gznubouit I honestly think it depends on ones opinion. For me, it dont matter if a speaker is vintage or new, good or bad, cheap or not, as long as it sounds good, its all that matters.
i love the way 1970's Sansui allways seemed to use far more drivers in a cabinet than they really needed..i think there was a model back then with 8 drivers in it!..awful latticed grills as well, looked much better with the grill off.
@drjoeshmoe Speakers now a days are made better, most typical speaker disasters are user errors; while common people think "if they volume can go up, let's do it!". The make is not the problem, its the people that don't know how to use them the right way, that is the issue. You definitely took care of those in the video, the buyer is lucky, and I hope they don't just blow them out because "I want loud music".
@drjoeshmoe Thats true vintage speakers have a sound that the newer speakers don't since the actual driver components are so cheap :/ But fostex makes some very nice woofers which are cheap and can be used in projects like folded horns or plain out bookshelf spekaers they sound nice!
please tell me what kind of amp that is, i have some Cerwin Vega D9-E's and i need a good amp to power them

Classic example of a kabuki speaker. All show and no substance.
They did make great audio gear though, apart from speakers.

@gznubouit Obviously you've never compared the old with the new. Vintage components were made much better than modern components.

Omg! Don't do that!
Keep the bass flat.
Get rid of that equalizer.
A good speaker doesn't need one.
Nice speakers.don't blow them.

They have already been sold,
I just leave the video up because I think some people like seeing speakers from back when they were made well.
