Trans Siberian orchestra Rock,Tommy Shaw always did Styx was great until Dennis wanted to become opera thats cool but the rest of the band wanted to rock-see ya Dennis the menace!!!
Tommy almost threw it away. He has been clean and sober for over 25 years (if you like bluegrass listen to The Great Divide, his most recent venture, awesome disc). His voice, unlike some others from his era, reflects the benefits of getting rid of his demons. Saw him and Styx last week. He still ROCKS!!!
I just saw Styx w/ Yes @ The Greek Theater in L.A. on their Progressive U.S. Tour.I was and stiil impress with Tommy Shaw's performance and the guys.I've been a big STYX fan since day one. This was the first time in all my years of concert going to see Styx perform live.Tommy's abilities don't stop from the beginning to the end I'm sure he could go on and on and on.By the way YES put on a fantisic performance also.STYX- ROCKED!
I saw Tommy w/ Styx on July 8. 2011 and he looked and sounded great. Better than in '77! He does an amazing job hitting his high notes and audience interaction, as he's always done. This would have been cool.
Um... wow? I'm just blown away by how well Tommy's doing after all this time. This is the first time I've seen a recent video of him, and I'm stunned. He's not lost an ounce of his awesomeness!
Like one poster said here, this is a really damn good video for being taken in the crowd. Must be one really good cell phone! Good video quality and sound, and good camera work, as well. Tommy still rocks on guitar and sings his ass off.
I was in the front row for a Styx concert in 1975. One thing I distinctly remember is Tommy Shaw jumping around the stage a few feet from me. He reminded me of an elf or a happy little Leprecan.
well tommy rocks as always. wish i was there. and the Transiberian Orchestra . like to see them too. great job on the camera. not easy to do .and sounded great for what was used.. good job
I always thought Styx was a bit too high on the treble, not enough bass, as much as I was a huge fan. TSO just really rounds out the sound. Wish I'd been there. This song and Styx was hugely popular in my high school years. Good party memories.
@grumpypant It's so weird Tommy Shaw and Dennis De Young were in the same band, They're both great but they have completely different styles, like night and day! But yes, I too prefer Tommy : )
Hey Tommy,I'll be in the Old Port of Portland ,Maine for summer 2010.Come see my little travel guitar and say hello on the cobble stone streets.Steven"The Divster"Man.
I especially like the more prominent sound of the Hammond on this rendition....splendid as ever, Tommy's voice is still a crystal clear power to be reckoned with!
Tommy is excellent, he didnt start styx but he made it great...i loved his comment about needing a new singer-keyboardist and he found one (gowan), never says anything bad about ddy, class act
Throughout the years , JY & Tommy proved they were the heart and soul of Styx and that DeYoung, while talented, wasn't talented enough to live up to his own prima donna ego.....good riddance...keep the faith JY & Tommy
DDY was dropped becaus ehe couldnt keep his medical condition in check to last an extended tour which is what the rest wanted to do .. so the rest dropped him so they could push teh bands limits further
After almost 30 years Tommy is still going strong. And I agree, I think Tommy's voice is getting better as he ages. He didn't throw away his gifts on drugs and alcohol.
AMEN! Like a Bottle of Wine, Gets better with age!! My wife says I look like him, I got a Meet and Greet in 96 and I have my Picture Taken with the band, James said I could pass as his Twin.Ithougt it was a Hoot! Styx ROCKS!!
@veronica16841 Tommy saw the writing on the wall and knew what direction he was heading in. Unlike several singers from mega-bands in the 80's whose voices are completely shot.
Ii is great to hear one of the great voices of rock still sound as good as ever. I would love to know his secret but it doesn't get said enough how amazing it is that he can still hit every note after all these years. It's especially impressive considering all of the other great lead singers of our time that have lost an octave or two as they get older.
Kudos Tommy Shaw!!!! Please write a book on how you do it so I can read it.
I just did a show earlier this monthwith styx, reo and 38 special . All the bands rocked ,it was like going back in time . all we needed was the big hair of the 80s. lol in fact some fans even needed any hair.
the show was great we spent most of the day seting up sound and lights etc, and a buddy of mine I went to highschool with is the sl guitar tech for styx so t was a great day.
that they can back practically anyone, same with the monsters in Dream Theater. Classic Metal and Hard rock has some of the greatest musicians ever so screw rap and current emo crap.

Styx is long dead. The current lineup is practically a cover band. The only thing keeping it from imploding is Tommy, yet he's also the person keeping it from becoming great again
Thing is Paul McCartney and Ringo were actual members from the get go unlike in styx were tommy shaw didnt come on till the 4th album in 76 and JY joned in 70 about 6 years after the band formed.
dont get me wrong I love Styx as a band but the actual band has been gone for ages.
Tommy and JY are doing all they can to keep the band alive and dennis is off doing his own thing .
Also sadly Chuck is extremely sick , last time I spoke to them it doesnt look good for him
Chuckie is pretty sick, but he still made it to the styx concert in OKC last night as a surprise guest. He looked pretty good. It was a great concert. As for the rest of the band, Styx may not have the original members, but the band wasn't complete until JY and Tommy came in. Dennis is missed, but Lawrence is amazing. Todd is still in as well. Not Sure! But Do not think so..Do you need everyone that originally played with the band? I have heard other bands that had the same situation with death of player...

i agree forgotten and underated they are stud guitarists, but shadowed by big names. Quality is there key, and every song is unique which makes them even better, some guys just do the same things over and over and they get praise.
pretty cool stuff there altho i gotta agree i like him with styx mostly cause he an JY are just badass together. one of the most underrated/forgotten guitar duos still after all these years
Resembles David Spade, is possibly the best frontman I've ever seen, one of the better singers out there, and ROCKS out on the guitar? Ladies and gentlemen, Tommy FRICKEN SHAW!!!
Idiot? Wow, your an asshole. And he wasnt born that much before david spade, they are almost the same age, maybe ten years difference, your a putz, walk off abridge please
Tommy Shaw just gets better and better if that's possible...what a talent...wish i was a back up singer that night!!! how lucky to get that gig, the opportunity to rock with such legends..gotta get my STYX FYX everyday!!!!they rock, they're sweet and hot, hot, hot..............
Saw Tommy perform when he was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame last month. I was so impressed. I can't wait till I can catch him perform again

I saw Styx with REO and Night Ranger in Nov 09. Night ranger rocked, REO rolled and Styx kicked ass!!! High point of the evening for each:
1. Jack Blades suggested the other "Damn Yankee" get on stage for HIGH ENOUGH....Love those Yankees!
2. REO had a few guests for Roll with the changes - Martina McBride and Brad Paisley! Great!!
3. Styx did "I am the Walrus" and had all bands for the finale "Can't stop rockin'"
GREAT SHOW!!!

i agree forgotten and underated they are stud guitarists, but shadowed by big names. Quality is there key, and every song is unique which makes them even better, some guys just do the same things over and over and they get praise.

Resembles David Spade, is possibly the best frontman I've ever seen, one of the better singers out there, and ROCKS out on the guitar? Ladies and gentlemen, Tommy FRICKEN SHAW!!!
