  • TSO & T. Shaw... I never see the day! I love Blue Collar Man

  • Tommy has one of those timeles & durable voices that you can recognize anywhere!

  • LOVE me some STYX!!

  • OMG I definitely GOT WOOD!!!!

  • Every town TSO goes to they always have a guest come out to do a couple songs here in Tampa we had Robin Zander from Cheap Trick..

  • I was there!

  • Awesome!

  • Trans Siberian orchestra Rock,Tommy Shaw always did Styx was great until Dennis wanted to become opera thats cool but the rest of the band wanted to rock-see ya Dennis the menace!!!

  • A most welcome post!

  • Tommy is just awesome!!! would love to meet him someday!!

  • Two of my favourite things! Tommy Shaw, and TSO!

  • Tommy almost threw it away. He has been clean and sober for over 25 years (if you like bluegrass listen to The Great Divide, his most recent venture, awesome disc). His voice, unlike some others from his era, reflects the benefits of getting rid of his demons. Saw him and Styx last week. He still ROCKS!!!

  • Great Video.

  • can someone please tell me if you can find out special appearances with tso on their site or something? thanks!

  • ...

  • So who has always been STYX

  • I just saw Styx w/ Yes @ The Greek Theater in L.A. on their Progressive U.S. Tour.I was and stiil impress with Tommy Shaw's performance and the guys.I've been a big STYX fan since day one. This was the first time in all my years of concert going to see Styx perform live.Tommy's abilities don't stop from the beginning to the end I'm sure he could go on and on and on.By the way YES put on a fantisic performance also.STYX- ROCKED!

  • Fuckin awesome! Tommy Shaw is just gorgeous!

  • I saw Tommy w/ Styx on July 8. 2011 and he looked and sounded great. Better than in '77! He does an amazing job hitting his high notes and audience interaction, as he's always done. This would have been cool.

  • I saw Tommy in 2007, he looks great! Actually better then in the 80's!

  • Tommy Shaw and TSO! Concert envy. God he looks 18.

  • I really really wish I could have been at this concert!

  • Um... wow? I'm just blown away by how well Tommy's doing after all this time. This is the first time I've seen a recent video of him, and I'm stunned. He's not lost an ounce of his awesomeness!

  • I... love... TSO...

  • is there a video like this with better quality

  • Like one poster said here, this is a really damn good video for being taken in the crowd. Must be one really good cell phone! Good video quality and sound, and good camera work, as well. Tommy still rocks on guitar and sings his ass off.

  • I was in the front row for a Styx concert in 1975. One thing I distinctly remember is Tommy Shaw jumping around the stage a few feet from me. He reminded me of an elf or a happy little Leprecan.

  • amazing footage...well done!

  • Tommy shaw as a surprise guest for TSO!!??

Holy freaking crap, my life would be made if that ever happened to me.

  • It almost looks like David Spade instead of Tommy!

  • Tommy Shaw is so sexy.

  • He is very awesome

  • hes nearly 60 and hes still the cool mother fucker as he was in the caught in the act tape i watched 2x a day as a small kid in the 90s :P

  • well tommy rocks as always. wish i was there. and the Transiberian Orchestra . like to see them too. great job on the camera. not easy to do .and sounded great for what was used.. good job

  • TSO=America's Response to ELO.

  • "Risin' up, back on the street

Did my time, took my chances

Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet

Just a man and his will to survive "

Such a fine line between Influenced & Plagiarism.

  • tommy sounds sooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome this is full of win tommy shaw is an awesome guitar player but hes alwaysbetter with james young o this song i think

  • I always thought Styx was a bit too high on the treble, not enough bass, as much as I was a huge fan. TSO just really rounds out the sound. Wish I'd been there. This song and Styx was hugely popular in my high school years. Good party memories.

  • I'll prefer Tommy over Dennis de Young from the STYX gang anytime!!!

  • @grumpypant It's so weird Tommy Shaw and Dennis De Young were in the same band, They're both great but they have completely different styles, like night and day! But yes, I too prefer Tommy : )

  • Tommy Shaw doing "Blue Collar Man" at a TSO concert?...WOW!!!

  • EPIC!! ;^)

  • I think he still looks good for a men that is um many years old.

  • for a video taken in the pit at a concert, this is really damn good quality! Props to whoever took this!

  • @zanderjohn1 Thanks!

  • omg he still looks good

  • If you want to see Tommy at his best check out some of the Blades/Shaw videos . They are great together!!!!!!! Best acoustic videos ever!!!!!

  • whats the song??

  • @shuttsworth the song is Blue Coller Man

  • i live in bham too---never heard he was there.

  • Tommy Shaw not only sounds better with age, he gets more adorable too :) Awesome concern in ATL 6/7/10.

  • I know for a fact he is a diva, but yes, he does take care of his voice

  • WOW

  • OMG!! Styx AND Trans-Siberian Orchestra??!!!! I think I'm in heaven. 8D

  • Hey Tommy,I'll be in the Old Port of Portland ,Maine for summer 2010.Come see my little travel guitar and say hello on the cobble stone streets.Steven"The Divster"Man.

  • Damn! The man still sounds like a Million Bucks!!! :-)

  • How AweSome is this??? I love Tommy Shaw!!!

  • Love it!

  • This was a great cover by them and Tommy. Man !! Really great .......

  • @dgcmusi Cover? No cover. He is the man! Made even better by TSO.

  • @rancar29

It still is a cover for the other guys.. That is what I meant.

  • wow, im blown away.. always wanted to take the kids to see TSO... whats up with all the hate to jy?

  • holy crap i was there, it was awesome when tommy walked out, did not see that coming

  • i love you so much it hurtz

  • 69?

  • @thequagmire421 yes please!

  • i STILL have a crush on this guy. ;)

  • killer

  • Friggin' guy sounds awesome. His talent was always amazing to me.

  • I was there that night. I was on the floor level and that lady with the pink violin ran right by me when she went up to the big stage thing

  • I especially like the more prominent sound of the Hammond on this rendition....splendid as ever, Tommy's voice is still a crystal clear power to be reckoned with!

  • Was so at this show. One of the best nights ever.

  • I saw Styx with REO and Night Ranger in Nov 09. Night ranger rocked, REO rolled and Styx kicked ass!!! High point of the evening for each:

    1. Jack Blades suggested the other "Damn Yankee" get on stage for HIGH ENOUGH....Love those Yankees!

    2. REO had a few guests for Roll with the changes - Martina McBride and Brad Paisley! Great!!

    3. Styx did "I am the Walrus" and had all bands for the finale "Can't stop rockin'"

    GREAT SHOW!!!

  • my husband and i went to the styx night ranger and reo speedwagon last month it was kick ass!

  • @scoobystu82 I was there... It was Nov 15th at the Sommet Center.... That was my 7th time seeing them last year lol..

  • sorry but there is no STYX without Dennis, he was the center piece of the band

  • DDY ruined that band.

  • Sorry but STYX is alive and well!

  • Tommy is excellent, he didnt start styx but he made it great...i loved his comment about needing a new singer-keyboardist and he found one (gowan), never says anything bad about ddy, class act

  • Throughout the years , JY & Tommy proved they were the heart and soul of Styx and that DeYoung, while talented, wasn't talented enough to live up to his own prima donna ego.....good riddance...keep the faith JY & Tommy

  • I totally agree, DeYoung was visionary with his ideas and he was talented, but for the most part he was all mouth and no trousers.

  • Yes dennis did wear alot of people out, love his older styx stuff but ran styx into the ground with all the ballads!

  • DDY was dropped becaus ehe couldnt keep his medical condition in check to last an extended tour which is what the rest wanted to do .. so the rest dropped him so they could push teh bands limits further

  • Oh no its machofan everybody>RUN!!

  • After almost 30 years Tommy is still going strong. And I agree, I think Tommy's voice is getting better as he ages. He didn't throw away his gifts on drugs and alcohol.

  • AMEN! Like a Bottle of Wine, Gets better with age!! My wife says I look like him, I got a Meet and Greet in 96 and I have my Picture Taken with the band, James said I could pass as his Twin.Ithougt it was a Hoot! Styx ROCKS!!

  • @4JayeP I wish so much that Dennis would come back with his old group........ all those guys togheter did magic....

  • @4JayeP Same with Dennis

  • @4JayeP He almost did back in the 80s

  • @veronica16841 Tommy saw the writing on the wall and knew what direction he was heading in. Unlike several singers from mega-bands in the 80's whose voices are completely shot.

  • @4JayeP i know and lets thank God he did because he looks and sounds great.

  • @veronica16841 But he's still an over sexxed, horn dog. LOL.

  • @4JayeP what did you mean by that

  • Comment removed

  • @veronica16841 Ummmm. 'whatever happens on the road....stays on the road'

  • @4JayeP true so true. ha ha ha ha

  • @4JayeP

Well, actually he did. But he fixed it before it got out of control.

  • @4JayeP you should here tommy shaw and jack blades together doing covers on their second cd.

  • Ii is great to hear one of the great voices of rock still sound as good as ever. I would love to know his secret but it doesn't get said enough how amazing it is that he can still hit every note after all these years. It's especially impressive considering all of the other great lead singers of our time that have lost an octave or two as they get older.

Kudos Tommy Shaw!!!! Please write a book on how you do it so I can read it.

  • are you kidding, tommy shaw is the best !!!!......we dont need ddy

  • i saw styx live wiht reo speedwagon and 38 special 2nd best concert I've ever been to.

  • Hey- same here. We saw them at the OKC Zoo Amphitheater in June and it was ABSOLUTELY the best concert I have ever been to! Four hours of heaven!

  • We saw them July the 5th, they ROCKED!!

  • I just did a show earlier this monthwith styx, reo and 38 special . All the bands rocked ,it was like going back in time . all we needed was the big hair of the 80s. lol in fact some fans even needed any hair.

the show was great we spent most of the day seting up sound and lights etc, and a buddy of mine I went to highschool with is the sl guitar tech for styx so t was a great day.

  • marillionjenn, I so agree with you, I swear his vocals are getting better and better no matter who he's performing with!

  • not bad - ebnjoyed this and haven't heard this in years.

  • STILL one of the best voices in rock n roll!!!!

    thanks for posting this! :)

  • I agree!

  • TSO has so much chops

that they can back practically anyone, same with the monsters in Dream Theater. Classic Metal and Hard rock has some of the greatest musicians ever so screw rap and current emo crap.

  • it's good to see someone commenting with more than stuff about Styx and DDY. I really do believe that Styx paved the way for bands like Dream Theater. Unfortuantely DT is a shadow of their former selves with the new material. There are still great unknowns out there like Circus Maximus. Anyone that likes TSO should also check out Savatage, members of that band are now TSO.

  • @ZYVZX i did not know Rap & Current emo was music, I see things like that on late nite TV shows in USA and wonder who in their right mind would pay to listen to that crap. TSO RULES!!!

  • Who in their right mind can compare david spade to

    Tommy Shaw?

David Spade sucks. He is good for nothin....

  • I think they look kinaa the same, Spade could be Tommy's stunt man

  • Legend813a

Yes you are right. Tommy is so talented. Hasn't he worked on broadway??? David

  • This is excellent. Totally sends shivers down my spine. This song is timeless.

  • Tommy is 56 now, so his voice was still superior 1.5 years ago. He's one of the most underrated rock musicians. Styx is Tommy Shaw these days.

  • If Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr tour again as The Beatles, then is the Beatles a cover band?

  • Thing is Paul McCartney and Ringo were actual members from the get go unlike in styx were tommy shaw didnt come on till the 4th album in 76 and JY joned in 70 about 6 years after the band formed.

dont get me wrong I love Styx as a band but the actual band has been gone for ages.

Tommy and JY are doing all they can to keep the band alive and dennis is off doing his own thing .

Also sadly Chuck is extremely sick , last time I spoke to them it doesnt look good for him

  • Chuckie is pretty sick, but he still made it to the styx concert in OKC last night as a surprise guest. He looked pretty good. It was a great concert. As for the rest of the band, Styx may not have the original members, but the band wasn't complete until JY and Tommy came in. Dennis is missed, but Lawrence is amazing. Todd is still in as well. That is Styx.

  • Great run down on the current carnation of styx> I concur! They just need a great new album. C'mon Styx lets have it!

  • @Lestatvvvvvv Uhhhh....

The Beatles' first drummer was Pete Best (fired for refusing to conform to the band's new appearance), Tommy joined after the 5th album was released, JY was asked to join TW4 after his band broke up, and Dennis wasn't with Chuck and John from the beginning - he simply replaced the accordionist the Panozzo bros practiced with. Chuck looks better, but yes, his situation is still pretty dire.

  • Not Sure! But Do not think so..Do you need everyone that originally played with the band? I have heard other bands that had the same situation with death of player...

  • Sorry signusmelko I so have so disagree> sty xis an amazing band that kicks some ass!

  • Finally! A new version of Blue Collar Man! ;)

  • i love tommy shaw..hes badas...

  • I've seen Styx live twice now! I walked into a concert a Boston fan... and knew Styx music for only one day, and left that concert a Styx fan! Incredible performances... I love them!

  • Man, that was a great show. When they introduced Tommy, I've never heard so many people screaming (myself included). Best part...the show started at 9:00pm and didn't end until almost 2:00am. Keep on Rocking!

  • Amazing!

Tommy & David Spade were separated @Birth. :)

  • i love it, tommy shaw and tsb. i saw tsb christmas show. unbelievable!

  • OMG!!!!! he is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! and he has such an awesome voice.

    Love you Tommy forever.

  • Tommy is so amazing! He still looks good, and it's cool that he's from Alabama!

  • Styx is the bomb!!!!! Tommy Rules!!!!

  • What a voice! Most rockers don't hold on to their range. He still has most of it. He used some falsetto but it was just one part.

  • GOD BLESS THE BLUE COLLAR MAN! Bless You Styx and all the hard working bands on their way that understand what it is that work so very hard that keep their 40 hour jobs and play their shows to keep the US Rockin'! Keep Rockin' VERDICT! I LOVE YOU CHRISTOPHER REEDER! Momma

  • I was there!

  • Did someone Goose that chick in the beginning of the video? Other than her giggling at the beginning, it's a great listen.

  • WOW! I don't think Tommy's aged one bit since the 70's! You go, Tommy !!

  • Wow, awesome vid! Go Tommy and TSO! I love this song. ^_^

  • tommy shaw rocks, hes still looks good after all these years! ROCK ON TOMMY SHAW!

  • awesome...I'm not one for bootleged footaged but this was deffenantly the best I have ever seen.

  • Tommy has massive appeal. He is still rockin' after all these years.

  • i agree forgotten and underated they are stud guitarists, but shadowed by big names. Quality is there key, and every song is unique which makes them even better, some guys just do the same things over and over and they get praise.

  • PERFECT!

  • I had this album. Very good stuff!

  • pretty cool stuff there altho i gotta agree i like him with styx mostly cause he an JY are just badass together. one of the most underrated/forgotten guitar duos still after all these years

  • Resembles David Spade, is possibly the best frontman I've ever seen, one of the better singers out there, and ROCKS out on the guitar? Ladies and gentlemen, Tommy FRICKEN SHAW!!!

  • Ahah, I never thought to compare him to David Spade, but I can so see it now that you've said that. Hah! I love them both even more now.

  • Tommy is STILL singing really good. And I mean REALLY good.

  • he's a tiny little guy, but boy can he sing

  • I love Tso and I love Styx, I think I'm in heaven

  • MUCH BETTER looking than Davis Spade for cryin' outloud, Get some glasses would ya???!! LOL

  • Happy Birthday Tommy, you are the best!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i like him with styx better

  • he looks like david spaid!

  • idiot technically david spade looks like HIM. he was born way before him soooo yeaaa

  • Idiot? Wow, your an asshole. And he wasnt born that much before david spade, they are almost the same age, maybe ten years difference, your a putz, walk off abridge please

  • He sure has a lot of hair at his age, good for him, and oh yeah, I think that he is super!!

  • is this tso group the one with angus and tommy in it?

  • yes, it sure is..

  • I live in the town this happened in....GOD wish I had been there.....Styx, Tommy Shaw ROCK...

  • good for tommy! the tso is practically nonexistent as backup... shadow of a sound

  • Ya just don't fuck with the members of STYX.

  • hey bigfoot3434,thanks for the video.

Tommy Shaw just gets better and better if that's possible...what a talent...wish i was a back up singer that night!!! how lucky to get that gig, the opportunity to rock with such legends..gotta get my STYX FYX everyday!!!!they rock, they're sweet and hot, hot, hot..............

  • Tommy Shaw is absolutely amazing! He's my #1 musical influence

  • Hell Yeah!.....Love it,Love it,Love it!

  • I love TSO and I love STYX. I'll bet this was such a treat for those in the audience!

  • Yeah, it was!

  • wow!

  • Have been crushing on Tommy since I was 19, and he is still such a cutie...but most of all, such a talented artist!

  • Tommy Shaw and TSO, what a great combination.

    Tommy,

You need to get the Damn Yankees back together!

  • Tommy Shaw is an excellent performer. I can't wait to see him again!

  • Saw Tommy perform when he was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame last month. I was so impressed. I can't wait till I can catch him perform again

  • his voice is heavenly. I LOVE YOU TOMMY!
