@paramedion i dont know. i just pray (really) coz i'm so scared and dont want to go to surgery. just be brave and face the nail. i will pray even harder. i'm just keeping it clean. and i really want to end this coz it's painful :( try soaking it in water. actually i also tried the cotton method (placing cotton under the nails) it's kinda painful but i cant do it everyday coz im kinda busy.

oh my! your poor toe, even after 6 days! How long did it take before even walking didn't hurt you? I'm thinking about getting mine cut out for good, I get ingrown nails all the time.
Hi you poor thing , my little girl had hers done last thurs ,like you her two big toes, how long did it take to heal after op?, if you dont mind me asking , hope this is the end of all the pain for her now , and hope everything went well and healed up good for you :)
@12janehughes12 I was bathing in salted water and redressing every day for 4 weeks, was a pain in the bottom, mainly because the wounds seeped fluid for weeks afterwards, pain was completely gone within a couple of days though. Now they are completely healed, nails look a bit odd and squared but all's good, they didn't come back which is the main thing.
i'm curious as to what the side effects were post surgery; did you experience pain whilst walking or if you knocked it against something? If so, how long did it take to go away?
What could/couldn't you do?
I'm strongly considering surgery now that my toe could limit my recreational activities permanently.
@NanoShadow8 There really weren't any. I never knocked it and took pretty good care of it afterwards, soaking and redressing them everyday. There was minimal pain for a day or two after, then nothing. Infact they felt better and better as time went on, as the toes began to shrink down to a "normal" size. 2 years on and all is good, no reoccurring ingrown nails or anything, I'd highly recommend you get your own toe/toes sorted this way. You'll be 1000x happier.
Right, well it's just the one big toe on my left foot.
The trouble that I'm finding at the moment is that walking can be painful from the shoe knocking my toe as it folds, being trodden on at gigs (very painful) and stubbing my toe.
So are you saying that after a day or two of this minimum pain, someone could step on your ingrown toe and it'd feel exactly the same as stepping on your normal toe?
@NanoShadow8 Well, I would say it's probably different for each person, The minimal pain was there for a few days, but to be honest, as I work from home it was alright for me to pretty much stay off of it and go bare foot for a while for it to properly heal, I can't say anyone stepped on it nor was it stubbed in its healing time.
@RichDaNinja I had this surgery one week ago. Two days ago I had an infection and my podistrist had to remove an abscess plus the removal of tissue (this was really painful) now, two days after the second medical intervention I am taking A LOT of care. I am taking oral antibiotics and aplying topic antibiotic in my toe as well. Today when I took the bandages off I had a little bleeding but I guess its pretty normal. There's still pain and the wound is very tender...
@RichDaNinja how long did your wound take to heal completely? (this is the new skin, no tender skin at all) And how long did you have to soak and dry your toe, covering it with a bandage?
@ferjosemef I did it for a long time, I'd say about 2 months to be honest, these procedures take a hell of a lot of time to properly heal, they were still weeping for weeks so I kept having to rebandage and just took care of them, pain was gone compleltey in a week or so however. I would say it was completley healed over in 3 months.
Im having the same procedure done soon, what's it like? I've got a terrible infection in my big toes which I've had for 2 years (incompetent doctor which I subsequently sacked) and I'm finally having it sorted.
I had mine done yesterday and today I removed the bandages and I dont have the gaps on both sides. My skin stuck to my nail and its healing better now.
Dude, you need the Vandenbos Procedure done. Look it up on Wikipedia and here on youtube. Once you have that, you won't have a problem with your toenails anymore!!
mine was bad like that or tad more, i busted it open sooo much. had to go twice, for same toe in like 6 months, so had it permnantly removed, and its sooo much better without a toe nail, i just got another ingrown toenail on my left foot now, so im not even gonna mess with it, just gonna get it perm removed
This is the day after the surgery, the bandages have been removed and this is before the toes were soaked, cleaned and re-dressed. That's why they look so messy. To this day my toes are fine, didn't get ingrown again and I couldn't be happier.
He basically failed to treat this properly after surgery...like soaking his foot in a footbath made of epsom salt every night before bed in order to kill bacteria. Hence, back to the drawing board.
You have my sympathy. All jokes aside, I've seen some horror flicks in my day, but they could make one, only 10 minutes long, showing these babies and it could make millions. This is the stuff that makes babies cry and turns people's hair to turn gray.
i cant afford surgery on my ingrown toe nail so sometimes when i get the balls to take the pain i cut is out....this is second time ive cut it out and it came back,....i hate having it hurts to much.
i JUST got this done. the worst part is the shots. i got 5 shots in my toe because i have big toes/feet and after that its fine. i got both sides removed. you dont feel anything. 2nd worse part was smelling my skin being burned so the nail wouldnt grow back into the skin. other than that. i thought it was very amusing XD
Just had my left big toe done. Didnt feel a thing when they did it, but once the novicane wore off, it hurt like fuckin hell! It's been about 4 days now. Hurting gone, but it looks so bad. I'm afraid it'll never heal. How long does it take for ur toe to look normal again?
i have had mine done, both toe's and the HOLE nail removed :L didnt hurt one bit when having it done but ask them to do it quick and after take pain killers :/ also it ichs alot after too ;)
nice i had some that looked just liked that i was in the NHS waiting list for 9 mouths to have them done and in the end i what private it tuck them 5 days from my consutaion to have the op done
i just got mine remove and bealive me im a baby when it comes to injections you only feel the injection and after that you wont feel a thing. THe procedure of the video is much extreme than how it its now. Probabbly its an old video now they have advance tools and the procedure is much different and less complicated than that. YOu will be fine.
omg you guys are scaring me im going to cry so much when they take off my toenail. Damm its a horrible thing. you cant even walk right and it hurts as hell when you walk and when you put on ur shoes dammmmmmmmm. also when you put jeans on or take them off you have to be careful because the slightest rubbing hurts........... aww im going in ten days for my surgery and im really scare
don't worry. all you feel is the needle. that is so you won't feel the rest of the procedure. believe me I just had this done today. you won't feel a thing. good luck. =)
It don't hurt tho when i had my other one operated on. I remember my sister had her nails sorted, & i just sat in the corner of the hospital room laughing! She was screeming in so much pain. LOL (I just found the pain funny)
Getting an ingrown toenail removed does not hurt at all, the only part of it that hurts is the two injections, and that barely even hurts, its like getting pinched, only hurts afterwards for a while, trust me its not that bad & I had this exact same thing done, both sides removed, twice. & im 15 so thats how you know it doesnt hurt
hell no. the injections when i had them felt like a billion fire ants were biting in one place at the same time! it hurt so much that i was screaming and squeezing the nurses hand so hard she was saying ow. ur such a luck bastard. lol. hahaha
i got mine removed almost a week ago, and still hurting!!! but just from one side, i have a hole and it bothers when im wearing shoes!! why?????????????? sh....t!!!
ive got and ingrown toenail it was annoying me so much and it was really painfull so i just ripped half my nail of.yeah it was painful but its better to have extreme pain for a couple of hours then a few weeks of annoying stinging pain
This brings back some painful memories!! I remember someone tredding on my foot when I had my ingrowing toenail and I almost passed out from the pain! I actually cut mine out myself and there fine now :D
same here i did it all by my self with a nail clipper i just kept digging and digging deeper each day. mine werent that infected so its better to take action before actually suffering from the pain
When they burn the nail roots, the toe nail doesnt come back. Its happened to both of my toes. Its done to prevent it from growing into a ingrown toe nail again.
I have to say though, the shots to numb the toe hurt more then the actual operation. I had 6 sticks of that crap into both toes. Looked like a grape fruit when it was done.
yeah but i got two ingrown nails on both big toes on the inner part of the nail and i got one removed and it came back....fuck dont they have stuff to make it stay away forever mines alil swollen but not too bad
Yeah when I had my surgery it fucked my toenail UP. My left toenail is all disfigured and shit and I always pick at it its funny, but fuck it beats the pain doesn't it? Do you let yours soak in warm water and paroxide? That's what I did after school every day.
i'm like nervous....my parents also know that i have in grown toe, but they don't know that there is surgery for ingrown toes....but i know about the surgery and stuff....however, should i ask my parents for the surgery? is it worth it? i'm like stuck here, plz tell me is it worth it for the surgery?
Its a cheap, safe surgery with a short recovery time and even during the recovery you can still walk around and shit (after like the first two days). Show your parents the video "My Ingrown Toenails (1)". Your toes can look like that, get the surgery now so it doesn't become too bad. The worst that happens is one of your toenails will never look the same and thats only if you pick at it during the recovery time. Like if he picked at his now (video) it will look a little weird.
You don't need to worry about the healing, It does take a very long time (10-12 weeks)to fully heal, It's a very messy healing process too, your wounds will still be leaking fluids and look awful for at least a month depending on how quick you heal. It's all worth it in the end, My toes look fine now, everything healed up great.
Ive seen 2 doctor and they said they had to open (slice) somewhere on my toe to reach the roots IS IT normal cuz nobody toes on youtube are being open to reach the roots
I don't know, I had this operation like 4 years ago when I was still in 8th grade so it was a long time ago. I remember saying "I don't want to ever have to go through this again" and he said that he will be cutting out the roots of the toenail and I was like "cool".
Just remember dude uh...you get four novacaine shots. They hurt like a bitch and I waited like 30 minutes between my first toe being numbed to my second. And I felt the surgery on my first toe (dimmed). Also, take the surgery.
Its alot better than wandering around and trying to dig them out yourself. Thats a foolish thing to do. I had the surgery and nothing happened wrong, and its one of the simplest surgeries out there so you wont like...never walk again or like they wont have to amputate. You'll be fine, and you'll be happy. 4 years later, and I'm still glad I took the surgery.
my foot doctor has done about 2 times of the regular procedure and just cut the ingrown part of nail out...so about twice on each of my big toes....not happy almost passed out the past time after the shot for some reason......but i am goin to get th chemical burn doo before christmas more than likeley...it is a painful thing too...i have both ingrown again rite now and they hurt like shit...

JustNess78 2 years ago
3-4 weeks or so

omg lookin at all dese videos im scared to have mines removed on my left toe :{
mizzthomas08 2 years ago
i just got mine remove and bealive me im a baby when it comes to injections you only feel the injection and after that you wont feel a thing. THe procedure of the video is much extreme than how it its now. Probabbly its an old video now they have advance tools and the procedure is much different and less complicated than that. YOu will be fine.

omg you guys are scaring me im going to cry so much when they take off my toenail. Damm its a horrible thing. you cant even walk right and it hurts as hell when you walk and when you put on ur shoes dammmmmmmmm. also when you put jeans on or take them off you have to be careful because the slightest rubbing hurts........... aww im going in ten days for my surgery and im really scare
adreanoscar 2 years ago
don't worry. all you feel is the needle. that is so you won't feel the rest of the procedure. believe me I just had this done today. you won't feel a thing. good luck. =)

lovetteshain32 2 years ago
is there any way to heal this except for removing th nail?
rename12345 2 years ago
I think mine is ingrowing again tho.
It don't hurt tho when i had my other one operated on. I remember my sister had her nails sorted, & i just sat in the corner of the hospital room laughing! She was screeming in so much pain. LOL (I just found the pain funny)
GRIMETIMESELECTA 2 years ago
Getting an ingrown toenail removed does not hurt at all, the only part of it that hurts is the two injections, and that barely even hurts, its like getting pinched, only hurts afterwards for a while, trust me its not that bad & I had this exact same thing done, both sides removed, twice. & im 15 so thats how you know it doesnt hurt
DeathsOneDesign 2 years ago
hell no. the injections when i had them felt like a billion fire ants were biting in one place at the same time! it hurt so much that i was screaming and squeezing the nurses hand so hard she was saying ow. ur such a luck bastard. lol. hahaha
XD
Filipinachick7486 2 years ago
wow...it really doesnt hurt at all, the only time it REALLY hurts is when the anesthesia wears off, thats when I was fucking yelling
DeathsOneDesign 2 years ago
hahaha, ya, that too. but i took like 2 mefanamic acids so it was like numb again. LOL
Filipinachick7486 2 years ago

This brings back some painful memories!! I remember someone tredding on my foot when I had my ingrowing toenail and I almost passed out from the pain! I actually cut mine out myself and there fine now :D
xArwenx 3 years ago 2
same here i did it all by my self with a nail clipper i just kept digging and digging deeper each day. mine werent that infected so its better to take action before actually suffering from the pain
Gaiden47 3 years ago
i had 3 of them out i had 1 grow back in so they took the root out
ballgreen 3 years ago
When they burn the nail roots, the toe nail doesnt come back. Its happened to both of my toes. Its done to prevent it from growing into a ingrown toe nail again.
DamnitHurley 3 years ago
I have to say though, the shots to numb the toe hurt more then the actual operation. I had 6 sticks of that crap into both toes. Looked like a grape fruit when it was done.
DamnitHurley 3 years ago
y didnt u remove the whole nail?!?!?
zweigzwag 3 years ago
yeah but i got two ingrown nails on both big toes on the inner part of the nail and i got one removed and it came back....fuck dont they have stuff to make it stay away forever mines alil swollen but not too bad
aaronzzz92 3 years ago
i was freaking out i hate needles and i had to get 8 SHOTS i was like 'oh shit'
he froze my toe he gave me 4 i was like its not so bad btw i had it today!
nicktavegia 3 years ago
Nothing removed, Though I did have the Chemical burns done, Ethenol(?)
Either way, In theory the nails are not ever supposed to be able to grow back at the sides.
6 months since and everything is fine, Apart from some strangely shaped nails.
RichDaNinja 3 years ago
Yeah when I had my surgery it fucked my toenail UP. My left toenail is all disfigured and shit and I always pick at it its funny, but fuck it beats the pain doesn't it? Do you let yours soak in warm water and paroxide? That's what I did after school every day.
ScreenSurfer 3 years ago
i'm like nervous....my parents also know that i have in grown toe, but they don't know that there is surgery for ingrown toes....but i know about the surgery and stuff....however, should i ask my parents for the surgery? is it worth it? i'm like stuck here, plz tell me is it worth it for the surgery?
doggi3d3mon 3 years ago
just had it, u rly shouldnt worry. all they do is numb it and u can watch. its rly not that bad.
kob3nme 3 years ago
Its a cheap, safe surgery with a short recovery time and even during the recovery you can still walk around and shit (after like the first two days). Show your parents the video "My Ingrown Toenails (1)". Your toes can look like that, get the surgery now so it doesn't become too bad. The worst that happens is one of your toenails will never look the same and thats only if you pick at it during the recovery time. Like if he picked at his now (video) it will look a little weird.
ScreenSurfer 3 years ago
hmmm i have another question will the big toe get back to its normal size after the operation?
rasingan333 3 years ago
Yep, Everything returns to normal. sizes and all. And you also gain the knowledge of why you should take care of your toenails :)
RichDaNinja 3 years ago
AND does it STILL HURTS??? CAUSE IT LOOKS ALL RED
rasingan333 3 years ago
You don't need to worry about the healing, It does take a very long time (10-12 weeks)to fully heal, It's a very messy healing process too, your wounds will still be leaking fluids and look awful for at least a month depending on how quick you heal. It's all worth it in the end, My toes look fine now, everything healed up great.
RichDaNinja 3 years ago
No dude it doesn't hurt that bad. Maybe a little stinging pain every now and then. The day after it aches pretty bad but at 8 days its pretty good.
Hey OP did you have your roots removed? Thats what they call the part that grows the side of the toenail that can go into your skin.
ScreenSurfer 3 years ago
mmm i still havent done the operation.:(
Ive seen 2 doctor and they said they had to open (slice) somewhere on my toe to reach the roots IS IT normal cuz nobody toes on youtube are being open to reach the roots
rasingan333 3 years ago
I don't know, I had this operation like 4 years ago when I was still in 8th grade so it was a long time ago. I remember saying "I don't want to ever have to go through this again" and he said that he will be cutting out the roots of the toenail and I was like "cool".
Just remember dude uh...you get four novacaine shots. They hurt like a bitch and I waited like 30 minutes between my first toe being numbed to my second. And I felt the surgery on my first toe (dimmed). Also, take the surgery.
ScreenSurfer 3 years ago 2
Its alot better than wandering around and trying to dig them out yourself. Thats a foolish thing to do. I had the surgery and nothing happened wrong, and its one of the simplest surgeries out there so you wont like...never walk again or like they wont have to amputate. You'll be fine, and you'll be happy. 4 years later, and I'm still glad I took the surgery.
ScreenSurfer 3 years ago
my foot doctor has done about 2 times of the regular procedure and just cut the ingrown part of nail out...so about twice on each of my big toes....not happy almost passed out the past time after the shot for some reason......but i am goin to get th chemical burn doo before christmas more than likeley...it is a painful thing too...i have both ingrown again rite now and they hurt like shit...
fdrookie91 3 years ago
