He was hanged, not burned. he was a hero, not a villain. he stood up against injustice to fight for what was right. "All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing". Guy Fawkes attempted in what needed to be done to return justice to its people,AND its government.
@Dreadmore No one worships him. This isn't a cult, this isn't religion. He wasn't nobody's god or master. Anarchist don't idolize. But he and his friends were heroes.
I'm an American Roman Catholic convert from Anglicanism with both English and Irish ancestors. The Gunpowder Plot was a stupid act of attempted political terrorism by Catholic extremists however let's note King James would have probably helped them blow up Parliament if he'd known that Cromwell's Puritan extremists were going to cut off the head of his grandson. :) Majorities have the right to rule but nobody can rule anyone who's rights aren't respected.
Guy Fawkes was a man who could no longer stand the acts of inhumanity the leaders of the country were doing to the roman catholics at the time. Therefore he took it upon himself to stand up to these leaders of the country by destroying the sybol of the country's evil and corruption. We should not celebrate the capture of Guy Fawkes but celebrate the fact that someone had the bravery to stand up to these people.
We have Guy Fawkes here in New Zealand too. Was great in the 80's where everyone was hell bent on blowing up shit, nowadays its more timid just boring public firework shows....boorringgg you can still buy fireworks though you can have roman candle and sky rocket wars with ya mates, point and fire hahaha
@punksNOTdead60 you are such an idiot in 1605 King James ordered the lighting of the bonfires around the country to celebrate the thwarting of this plot. The only person trying to change history is you!
lol I love how all these people like Anonymous & OccupyWallstreet use Fawkes image but have no idea who or what he was! He & all but 1 of the plotters were wealthy, privileged aristocrats who hoped to force the country back to Catholisim. He had nothing in common with these libs!
@sdpvids they arent supposed to be celebrating the death. the holiday was supposed to be about his intentions which were amazing. but the dumb ass ppl change it up just like always
Guy Fawkes was NOT burned. We burn him in effigy but in real life, although weakened by torture, Fawkes managed to jump from the gallows, breaking his neck in the fall and thus avoiding the agony of the latter part of his execution. His lifeless body was nevertheless quartered (cut in four) , and as was the custom, his body parts were then distributed to "the four corners of the kingdom", to be displayed as a warning to other would-be traitors.
im planning on getting a group together for guy fawkes night and burning a effigy of king james or ratface idiot and the torch bearer with luck shall be dressed as catholic hero guy fawkes
GUY FAWKES WAS AN ENGLISH HERO AND ONLY THOSE WHO WERE EXTREMELY JEALOUS OF HIS PRESTIGE MADE UP THAT HORRIBLE HORRIBLE LIE ABOUT HIM! IF I WERE, THERE, YOU'D BE LUCKY IF I DIDN'T TAN YOUR HIDE! :@
Burnt him cos he was a catholic scum terrorist just like the IRA _ burn them all , its a celebration of protestant superiority over catholics in uk , glasgow rangers fans burn effigy of the pope , chelsea fc german protestant hamburg fc celebrate killin the scum too , in ulster its about beating the catholic scum , NO SURRENDER RED NAZI HAND ULTRAS ftp 1690 king william of orange rule brittainia and our german queen fascist bnp edl sdl rule
@bettypro but she has it wrong and I even know that being American. He wasn't burned. I think blowing up some politicians and CEOs of greedy corporations is in order.
i know all about guy fawkes and what he tried to do, but im an american and we dont have this holiday so forgive my ignorance but, is guy fawkes night celebrating guy fawkes death? or is it honoring guy fawkes?
or do some people honor him while others celebrate his death? because some americans dont celebrate 4th of july, i personally celebrate resistance to tyranny rather than in support of the american government(im not a tea bagger, i am a liberal)
@TheEnviroFriend to be honest most people in britain just do it for the fireworks and bonfires. i know i do :) we also eat parkin cake, black peas and bonfire lollies which are made of treacle :)
@TheEnviroFriend I would say its just a occasion of remeberance of the attempted plot. Probably initially a celebration that the plot was unsuccessful because guy fawkes tried to kil the king. Normally along with fireworks you would have a bonfire where a hay model of guy fawkes is burnt. So you probaby coud say it was celebrating he got caught. Also some peope call it bonfire night. Hope this helped. :)
Nope we all burn effigy's of him. The children make one, and they do "penny-for-the-guy" for about a week prior. Then he gets burnt on a bonfire with fire works. Children have sparklers cake, parkin, tofee ect and the adults get drunk. It's a good night.
I was just correcting someone (axelg5) who said he was burned, and thought I might share the gruesome truth for people who have a slightly weird fascination with stuff like that.
Like I said, burning is better to replicate on a fun night out...
It was origonally a direct show of anger that was given by parliment. To have bonfire's and burn 'Guys' is now more symobollic, as a particulary interesting part of History, and has made Guy Fawkes as somewhat a people's hero. (giving all bonfire night, a 400 year old tradition of gunpowder hog roasts & fire)
Technically, "Remember, remember the Fifth of November." But in 2007, the 5th fell on a Monday. The 3rd was much more convenient to have a bonfire and fireworks display.
Fawkes was arrested and taken before the privy council where he remained defiant. When asked by one of the Scottish lords what he had intended to do with so much gunpowder, Fawkes answered him, "To blow you Scotch beggars back to your own native mountains!"
you boring person i love guy fawkes night i just bought some TNT from asda and 8 boxes of fireworks lol and i hate pets with a vengeance and people who complain all the time so im going to offend my neighbours to lol.

Dragged behind a horse, hung until half dead, and then taken down and disemboweled.
Burning is easier to replicate.
