  • lol at the vid descriptionxD

  • Anyone who dislikes this video is obviously a troll and hating on this dudes flawless mustache.

  • Lol. At Animal.

  • Pretty cool! :)

  • Excellent job of work...I dread to think how long it took to learn...

    5/5* Fav

  • man of many instruments and a clear life-devotion to rush. i love it.

  • Nicely Done!

  • Is that a Gibson Black Beauty you're playing? :D! I'm in love with that guitar... I've wanted one ever since I saw it. Beautiful guitar, I almost had a heart attack when a guy let me play one at a store I went to. I envy your guitars, and your talent, sir. :P Very nice video.

  • @ArmenianSnipe13

Yes. Yes that is a Black Beauty. Or some may refer to it as The Fretless Wonder. Or, as I like to call it... Mine.

This Gibson Les Paul Custom and I celebrated our 25th year together December of 2010, and it is still as perfect as it was 25 years ago.

You should get one. And NEVER get rid of it.

    Thanks for the kind words.

  • yo tengo el mismo equipo de musica

  • Totem

  • Dude, I was so entertained by this, great job. I want all my friends to see it. Uhh.. How do you do that middle finger trick... That's amazing.

  • awesome!!!

  • You and your damn Rickenbacher bass make me mad and green with envy!!! Grrrrr!!!!

    Great job, though. Excellent!!

  • I would be surprised if you are not in a band :P

  • 0:00-0:08

    Wtf?

  • Fucking great job ....... this is suberb !!!!!

  • U FUKN SUCK ASS MAN!

    BORING!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Kurtlifeson WTF DUDE , ...... YOU SUCK ASS HE IS SO GOOD wow im shure you dont play guitar . noob !

  • @Kurtlifeson Yeah, this guy's nothing compared to that Justin Beiber song you love so much.

  • U FUKN SUCK ASS MAN!

  • The drum track is off. It's all fine except for that.

  • ♫ bravo, awesome job! Rock on brother!

  • What year is your SG on the wall? I have a '79 or '80 "The SG" just like it!

  • @dlchambers

Good eye, sir. "The SG" was born in 1979. For a better look at it, watch my "Vital Signs. Time Machine Style" video. It's not a good example of it's sound, but you can see that it is exactly what you thought it was. I love that guitar.

  • I just checked; mine's a 1980.

I got a Les Paul DC Pro a couple years ago, and I rarely play the SG anymore, but you can hear it in some of the Vids I've posted, e.g. "Self Esteem"

  • so if you were at the hampton coliseum, does that mean you live in the tidewater area??

  • REMARKABLE WORK!! Really, very impressive! And quite entertaining to watch. Bravo!

  • hahahahaha on solo drums, The Animal..... congrats great job

  • YEAH! The bass riff at 2:00 is the one that earned MY respect. It's a booger to jump from the groove to the fill. You have assumed control.

  • @aliendogbrain ok maybe 1:58, lol.

  • hahah i love it! this is one of the best songs in the world u played it great love how u have animal as the drummer just great.. this vid made my day thank you for all your work :)

  • @tubatony16

    Wow. Thanks.

  • Marvelous job, superb song and tone but quick question:

Are you using a SansAmp Bass Driver on that Ric because i have the same ric (if it's a 4003) or is it completely out of the bass that is giving that tone?

  • @MonkeyMainBusiness

Thanks. Well... That bass is the 4001 with roundwound strings. I go through a cheezy little Zoom506 II and into a 50w Crate bass amp. I think the magic happens somewhere between microphone placement and the line-out on my Tascam 424 which plugs directly into the line-in on my computer. I don't hear that tone while I'm playing, only during play-back. It's very strange. Strange and very unscientific.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @AnubisXII --- don't knock the Zoom! (haha) I'm using an original '98 506 1st-gen with completely re-worked settings that I've had from... well... 1998. I can make my Fernandes Tremor punchy & chalky almost exactly like a Rick, or heavy & crushing like Peter Steele from the Slow Deep & Hard days. Out of all the pedals I've had over the past 13 years, that plastic piece of Zoom is still duplicating a LOT of bass tones.....by the way, love all your playing. How do your neighbors like it?

  • @IntwatPapsmir

Hey, man. I mean cheesy, like... it tastes like cheese. Sorry bout the choice of words I used. I shoulda said "gooey" or "processed non-dairy goodness".

Yeah. I also have the 1st-gen that I bought at a pawn shop for ten bucks. It's a good little pedal, and right now I've got my Alesis QS6 running through it for some reason.

My neighbors are cool. They have crazy things that I ignore, so it works out pretty well. Just smile and wave and shut the eff up.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @AnubisXII Thanks for the response... it's almost, in a way, like when I was at a Rush show in '85 and Howard Ungerleider strolled in the bathroom at the Hampton Coliseum as I was standing there releiving myself at the urinal, and he had passes and bus keys hanging from his neck, and I said "hi," and he said, "hey," and then I was like, "holy shit, dude, you're Howard Ungerleider and you just said hi to me" but I didn't really say it. Or maybe it's not like that at all. But you FUC%ING ROCK!

  • @IntwatPapsmir

In this video, theres a sign I pulled off of the production office door when I ended up backstage at the Counterparts show. A forklift driver told me to load the trucks, so I did. Shortly thereafter, one of Dallas' finest escorted me to the closest exit. I walked out to 2000 Rush fans pressed against the fence, waiting for Rush to leave. They cheered my arrival. But my girlfriend was still inside, so to re-enter, I told security I was Skip Gildersleeve. Stage Right Technician.

  • Great performance! I like the tags you have for this video. Just a few of them...

  • Hey Dude, big fan os rush since 7 years old :D

That rick and that lespaul are beautiful

Just for knowning, what was the amp that you use for both of then?

The Rick sounded very similar to Geddy´s rick in 77/78

    Great video!

  • @tonyjp83

Yeah, man. Those are sweet guitars. I love them.

Oh... I ran my guitar through a Gallien Krueger 100 mpl which is now diseased. or in a coma. Hopefully it's condition is reversible. And the bass?... A Zoom 506 II plugged into a Crate BX50. Both miked while recording.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Blown away - well done, sir. I messed around with the bass part myself, and can't play it. You got bass and guitar and keys down. TIp my hat to you...

  • Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this guy is fucking amazing

  • GOOD STUFF AnubisXII!! Must've taken AGES to get all of those tracks down, and edit it , and sync it, and burn it for YT, and, well... you know!! Thanks for the GOOD vid man! You are a real PRO!!

  • Identical twins! Better than Nelson! I love Crack-head Elmo on drums! GREAT video!

  • @ruk1701

Better than Nelson? Dude. No one is better than, wait... did Nelson do that Do Wop song? Nevermind. Someone else did Do Wop. Crackhead Elmo?... BWAAAHAHAHAH! That's Animal. Elmos crackhead dad. Elmo is that little tickle doll with homosexual tendencies.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Comment removed

  • Nicely done. You got that Ric dialed in perfect.

  • Magic 8 ball says most definitly!!!!!

Great job......... i'd love to sit in with animal on drums! you wore him out and thats not easy to do... lol!

Is that an old ibanez L.P.?

Ill have to watch 10 or more times lol.

great work 5's and a sub!

    peace

  • Reply to porousorifice:

No sir. That is an old Gibson LP Custom. My baby. But I do have an old Ibanez Custom Agent I've been thinking about doing something with. It's the old tobacco burst LP with the scroll headstock and friggen crazy inlays down the neck and body. It's a beauty, though.

    No mustard on that sub.

Later, man. Thanks for the comment.

  • Wow, other than the great guitar solo and the great bass playing AND tone, I'm really impressed with the attention to detail with the drum programming...that must have taken days!

  • reply to Joshuarice:

Thanks, man. Yeah. It took quite a while to program those drums. And I had to use the memory from two drum machines to do it. And I still ended up repeating some patterns towards the end of the song. AARRGGH!

    Villa was the same way.

Thanks for the comment and the kind words.

  • Whats impressive here is AnubisXII playing finger style bass guitar and an electric Les Paul with a pick(as usual), but how many people can do that? Not to many! He and i are among the few! Kudos to you AnubisXII! Happy New Year!

  • Awesome, but you have to not be so tense, and feel the music, but other than that, awesome 5*

  • Reply to 07:

Me trying not to be tense is like someone trying to act laid-back while they're on fire.

I took a long break from playing for a while and ended up forcing myself to do these videos so I would start playing again. Well... It got me playing again, but it's just not the same as it once was.

And really... Before you can "feel" the music, you gotta "feel" like playing it.

I totally get what you're saying and I appreciate the kind words. And hopefully one day I'll find that old groove.

  • Outstanding Curt!Im one of your biggest fans dude! You truly are killer!Mike Wood

  • rock on guys

    well done

  • niel perat?

  • I don't know if it's supposed ot sound off-beat, but it's still wicked!

    Fuckin cat?!?

  • Reply to Peanarchist:

Yes. The off-beat parts were carefully planned and precisely executed along with all those little parts that would sound somewhat like mistakes of eff-ups to the untrained ear or inexperienced casual observer. And anyone who knows me could verify the fact that this reply to your comment is full of crap. There are some parts where I just couldn't keep up.

And this was my first recording ever without my little buddy Bob (the cat) here with me.

    Thanks for the comment

  • moog pedals! get in!

  • ANIMAL!!! are those Animal clips from the Buddy Rich video?

  • Reply to Rushworshiper92:

Animal? Jammin with Buddy Rich? Heavens, no. He flew in from L.A. to jam with me. Not Buddy Rich. That was shot here in the jam room at my place.

    Disclaimer:

When I say "Heavens, no", I really mean, "Yes."

And by "My place", of course I mean, "Some studio in London or some shit".

And as far as someone getting shot in the jam room, well... That's something that we really don't need to discuss.

    Thanks for the comment.

And you are dead on. Greatest duel ever.

  • Wow!, you are talented!plus you have animal for a drummer!, i like the finger trick at 3:21! lol keep on rocking man!

  • lol very cool dude

  • The 8 Ball was hilarious!

  • Love everything, especially the bass tone. Must be pretty sweet to have Elmo as a drummer lol.

  • Reply to Vulturer:

Ooooh. Vulturer. I dig that name. "One who vultures"... "The vulturing one".

Not sure of it's origin or what it means, but it sure sounds cool. Even maybe a little spooky in a "lurking in the shadows" kind of way.

    Seriously.

I'm not trying to be a smartass.

Oh. The drummer is Animal. Jammed with Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem on The Muppet Show back in the mid to late 70's. Had to be chained down.

Elmo is the ticklish one with homosexual tendencies.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • awesomeee xD

  • 2:13 good job

    2:21 xd jaja

  • hahah awesome job....monster was awesome as well :)

  • animal, good sir, animal

  • Hard bass riffs in this song. Ya did em though, Bass is your strong suite.

  • Loved animal on drums...very very funny!

Oh, nice playing too! great video, I laughed out loud!

  • Reply to Alembicbassguy:

    Hey thanks, man.

17 years ago I knew this guy who couldn't stop talking about his Alembic bass. At the time, I've never heard of them. But this guy seemed to be a little too in love with his bass. You might even say it was a very unhealthy love that became a bit too weird and uncomfortable to hear about.

Finally, I got to meet this beautiful Alembic bass.

It was then, my friend, everything came to light.

This whole time I thought he was saying "Olympic".

    Do'h!

  • Yeah, Alembics are probably the pinnacle of active basses but I had a Wal custom in the eighties that was half the price and just as good!

Rickenbackers are superb basses, I owned two of them back in the day...wonderful high end tone!

    Peace and respect!

  • I loved the silly things throughout the video. But amazing playing too!

  • Very nice :D

  • That is an excellent cover my man. I'm a huge Rush fan and you are a very talented musician!!!

  • This was awesome, dudee!!!!!!!

I want you and Animal right off in my band!

Haha, I'm talking as if I had one;)

  • can i get those bass tabs

itd be great if you could send me them

  • nice rikenbaker dude

  • haha, I love Geddy's hands in the beginning.

  • dude awsome

i actually felt a grove to this one

didnt noe yyz actually had a grove

    XD

i almost liked it better than the recording

  • You are excelent!!! 5/5

  • wow, so first of all this is great

and you are play both the instruments I desire.. in the exact colors.

If I am not mistaken that is the Black Gibson Les Paul with the Orange trim?

    and obviously a Rickenbacker bass.

  • Reply to Sportymcdouglas:

Ahh yesss. The Gibson Les Paul Custom, aka "The Black Beauty". With gold plated hardware, mother of pearl inlay, and the ivory trim framing it all perfectly.

Unfortunately, over time, the finish Gibson used begins to yellow. Much like an old newspaper.

So, you take the yellow ivory, and combine it with really bad lighting and a cheesy camcorder, and... Badda-bing.

    Orange trim. D'oh!

Work hard. Save. And get one.

    You will love it.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • I dig the addition of Animal from the Muppets.Nice touch.

    : D

  • WOW You are an amazing musician!!!!

  • nice foot pedal work in the intro (refering to the synth.) love the animal solos. love the synth after the solo as well, but i am unsure on if in was correct. it sounded off. but a fun video, none the less.

  • what tupe of bass u play it is good??

  • If you watch The vid, you'll see it's a Rickenbacker bass.

Oh, and, Anubis --- Has anyone TOLD you that you LOOK like Fabio Pignatelli from Goblin?

  • Definitely one of the best all round Rush covers I've seen, excellent work, fun to watch and great playing skills. 5*

  • LOL! STOP PRESSURING ME YOU ASSHOLE! ILL CLICK MY OWN LINKs!

  • Reply to VoteOlegForJesus08:

Hey man. Sorry about the pressure.

But as long as you're Elling O L, it can't be too bad.

And can you please not write in caps? I'm trying to sleep.

Thank you. And thanks for the comment.

  • lol! Im joking man...im going along with your tone of voice being not pressuring...like juxtaposing your tone.

  • Playing GTR myself for 30 yrs. I remember jamming on this tune and other Rush tunes with our 3 piece band. Our bassist eventually went to MIT and jammed with Billy Sheehan many times. He then had a short stint with Slik Toxik here in Canada before it went all to hell. Anyhow, that's my claim to fame and thanks for the kind response...so refreshing to to speak with someone who reminds me of myself...grounded but having fun if you know what I mean...take care and keep rockin' too!

  • This has to be one of the best videos I have seen in a long time! The fantastic musicianship, the humor and the editing is just so entertaining...and when he is looking in the 8 ball and twiddling his fingers...LMAO!!! I would love to play in a band with this guy...bet he is a super dude...God Bless!

  • Reply to 238839:

Wow. Thanks, man. That is so refreshing to hear after a long hard day of make-believing I'm working.

But, yeah. You're right. He is a super dude.

Unfortunately, his super-human superness is invisible to most.

Hey. Thank you for the kind words.

    And please... Rock on.

  • I remember when I first found out the intro is morse code for YYZ. I thought "how creative"...

    Nice job dude..

  • The muppet part made me laugh too

  • I recomend redoing the drums with the drumkit from hell. The quality of the drum sound would be a million times better. Other then that, very impressive!

  • weón fanático

  • that first bass chord in the second part of the verse sounded...nasty, maybe playing just an A octave

  • o wow your amzing! you did a crzy 24 track! i want to do a 24 track soon...but not to this song...more to a song i made

  • LOL.

    Love the muppet parts.

Who cares for the dissenters, you rock!

  • The Bass Should Have Been Louder

  • Cool, man. Thanks.

  • I would like to jam with you man. That is some kick ass playing. You play the same stuff I do. 70's rock rules. That is some of the best rush covers I've ever heard. I love seeing people jam on the good stuff. FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • Id Love To Jam With Both Of You.

    That Would Be Cool.

  • Exellent work man.5 STARS.

  • u sir are a god and that thing with getty lee in the beginning is fuckin hilariouse

  • lol you used clips from Animal's battle with buddy Rich

    great video

  • yanni...my master

  • Neil, you are a man of many talents...

What do Geddy and Alex think of this? ;-)

  • I think the guy playing the bass is much better looking then the guy playing the guitar. ;-)

  • that may be true but the drummer blows them both outta the water oolala

  • Well done man! That was hilarious and you are very talented.

  • Is the drums from reason? :P

Sounds like them from 2.5 ;)

  • B3nz1mon:

The drums are the Kawai R-50 and R-50e. A couple drum machines from yesteryear. They really have a better sound, but the sound gets lost in the compression or whatever it takes to get it below 100 mb.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Okay! :P

    That explains everything ;)

  • YOU STILL ROCK MAN!

  • my favorite yyz vid ever!!!!!!

  • Great playing, great editing, awesome video!

  • Wow...that was great! Not only are you very talented but you have a great sense of humor.

I love ANIMAL on the drums.

    Cheers!! 5 STAR all day.

  • Yes, delicious.

  • And the magic 8-Ball says... LMAO!

    Good jam man.

  • nice drummer xD

  • is that a counterparts poster on the wall?

  • KingXanadu:

    Why, yes. Yes it is.

Actually, that was the sign they had taped to the "Production Office" door when they played Reunion Arena in '94.

    Wow. That rhymed.

Yeah. When I was back there, I kinda grabbed it.

Then I kindly got escorted out.

  • yeah u done great cover..i loved it a lots of times! (only the guitarpart isn`t a bit weak) but i gave 5starZ, man!

  • how do you get that tone out of that rickenbacker O_O

  • LOL @ 1:53!

    kick ass video! love it!

  • oOoLiVEWiREoOo:

That lovely hand-crafted Gibson SG you are asking about was born on August 8th, 1979 in Nashville, Tennessee.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • nce stuff tell me where u live so i can rob u

  • i think his drummer would freakout and make your head explode

  • isn't "la villa strangiato" an exercise in self-indulgence? not yyz?

  • edthehead83:

    Yeah, man. You're right.

But at the time I posted this, I hadn't done La Villa yet. So this, to me, was my excersize in self indulgence.

I forgot that I posted that. I guess I need to change it. Hmm... Maybe I'll change it to "A Song About a Cheeto" or, "Hoppy. The One-Legged Duck".

Hey man, thanks for the comment (and for reminding me).

  • yea lol. no problem man. always nice to talk to another rush fan.

  • OmniSlashX89:

Really?? You think so? Wow. That's one sexy man.

Do you think that I could land myself a hot little peice-of-ass wife like that??
