  • even gods fail some times

  • This is pretty early for Petrucci to be looking as huge as he does here

  • Hi, this is my cover of metropolis - I hope you like ti!

  • @SoledadYamila wtf r u smoking troll

  • the prog demons !!!!!

  • I love Petrucci's Ibanez in this video!

  • Petrucci equipment malfunction at the end. That sucks.

  • James LaBrie's vocal injury really ruined him

  • I hope mike is coming back to DT, the best progressive music in the world!

  • 3:30 myung :O

  • A GODBAND.

  • my favorite DT song ever

  • 2:32 Burrito!!!!!!!!

  • DAT WIND

  • best audience eva¡¡¡¡¡

  • Labrie's voice it's terrible! D:

  • @caiolinklost here, it´s actually quite good..........

  • What year is this?

  • @scarsontable Sometime between 1998 and 2001 i think... Jordan is on board, Mike's kit i purple monster... It should be after SFAM, before SDOIT

  • @PsikolojikDeliManyaa But Petrucci is using an Ibanez, and didnt he started using Music man for SFAM?

  • @MrMusicman456 No, i just checked from cd covers, just to be sure :) No special thanks to Ernie Ball / MusicMan but Ibanez in SFAM and no special thanks to Ibanez but Ernie Ball / Music Man in SDOIT..

  • @PsikolojikDeliManyaa Oh, thanks for clearing that up, but what about for the tours?

  • @MrMusicman456 I dont know exactly but i think it'd be like he entered the SFAM sessions with ibanez and sometime between post-recording recording and pre-touring he experimented EB/MM and decided to include the MMs to the tour. Also he used his ibanez with LTE both recording sessions and touring. Also i saw him using MM in Erotomania video which is when Jordan is on and Mike is using purple monster, it has to be after SFAM before SDOIT...

  • Why doesn't this band get more attention? This is real music!

  • even though the quality sucks i can actually HEAR Myung XD

  • oooh petrucci ql xD la media pifia en 7:50 de todas formas el no cree en dios, dios cree en Petrucci :D

  • Looks like labrie's got a cold :[

  • I love this performance because Its windy and rainy and yet Dream Theater soldiers on useing there godly power of music and huge wattage to fuck mother nature up!!!!

  • Thats the most awesome crowd I heard from a DT show.

  • Cara o Labrie é um caso curioso no meio do metal...

  • @TheVictorhora Voce ta dizendo em relação a que?

  • Petrucci = Jesus Christ

  • 7:50 oops!!!

  • i prefer petrucci with his picasso ibanez...

    escellent video!!!!

  • I can't hear James!!! The crowd is really loud.

  • as always labrie singing like crap....

say whatever you want, he still will be singing like crap xD

  • @juanuchox not really that bad considering its the falling into infinity tour and thats when he REALLY struggled with high notes from rupturing his vocal chrods.

  • @MulletMan3108

it's actually the first leg of the Scenes from a Memory tour

  • @joshuanaconda is it actually? awesome - cheers for the heads up :)

  • @MulletMan3108

yes mate, petrucci has longer hair, labrie as well, same weight and shirt as scenes from new york but more important than all, Jordan is on stage lol =)

  • KOrean fans are awesome

  • @darklegend24 jajajajaa

es la primera vez que veo que se equivoca petrucci jaja hay que perdonarlo jaja

  • Check MP's tourography. This show was Jordan Rudess' first show as an official member of Dream Theater. That's JR.

  • i'm a blues guy myself, but this stuff is AMAZING! holy cow! man, can these guys ever put on a show! WoW!

  • what happened in 7:48 - 7:56 petrucci??? hahaha

  • 6:18. that harmonic is orgasmic

  • soundtrack for world war 3

  • you idiots,,,apparently the voice is not clear...and u keep judging James voice for nothing...i do believe that james is among the best metal singers of all time....His thin and orgasmic voice is so special you love it or leave it...and go for nickleback's

  • @reslanreslan ok.. so.. he's not really a metal singer.. u can't really put a genre. he sings rock... he sings prog.. he could sing a variety of things. he's just a vocal god... but yes i agree he has a unique voice and an amazing voice. one of the great and def under rated vocalists of all time. he deserves respect. for all u haters, i'd like to see u try what he does. oh wait u can't.. so shut up and enjoi the music.

  • i want a reaction like that! ie girls screaming.

  • The wind makes it looks so epic in the beginning.

  • I don't know why the Dream Theater fans don't like James LaBrie. For me, he is a great vocalist. Perhaps in a show or another, he may be tired and not picking up as well, but I still admired him. Being a singer is not for everyone.

  • Can Petrucci tell his dad to cut out the wind, I'm sure God would do a favor for his favorite son

  • 3:46 - 3:48 ...

What is the guy saying to John Petrucci???

  • @AppleFender Your dad just called, said his brother Hades is mad at him freezing over his hell

  • what you see me under the stage? its great concert :D

  • james his voice is fuckt up here omfg he sounds drunk XD

  • Sometimes I wish james wouldn't sing.

  • hah guitar fail at 8:30

  • Myung is NOT loud enough :(

  • @RandomoVideos Nor is Derek! Jesus, whoever mixed this show deserves to be shot!

  • I cant believe portnoy quit :(

  • @talkingbeatlehead he did?! i just started listening to this bandhes the buest drummer ive ever seen liek damn .

  • wow whats with labries vocals in this

  • mike portoy- THIS IS SPARTA

  • it couldnt be kevin moore, jp is playing a jpm p2 which was released in 96' after moore had already quit.

  • Oh Shit! That voice was... well... you know... bad :/

  • Petrucci = epic win

  • That's Jordan Rudess obviously. He's the only keyboardist who ever uses one keyboard with Dream Theater, and he has long hair. Look at his equipment, its obvious its JR.

  • @SilentMan4804 its not Jordan. Petrucci signed with Ernie Ball before Jordan joined. That's Derek.

  • @VerdiKtagrad No sorry..there's no way that could be Derek. and we all know it isn't Kevin, so the only obvious conclusion is that it is Jordan. Single keyboard (Derek ALWAYS had multiple), long hair (Derek ALWAYS had short hair, never long), and Jordan signature sounds.

  • The time when DT got Excited playing this song!!!

  • 9:10 Labrie fail...

    But I love his voice

  • That's Jordan Rudess for shure

  • Why come the cameraman doesn't cut to John Myung until halfway through his solo?

  • OKat 4:05 there is a good shot of the keyboard player. It's obviously not Kevin. Could it be Jordan? Derek had shorter hair.

  • i was just wondrin who playin kbords in this vid???

  • Laaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! fucking rocks

  • Holy shit, how many strings does his bass want to have...

  • the studio labrie is completely different from the live labrie....the live labrie sucks

  • @psychosisunlimited This was right around the time he basically threw up his own vocal chords due to food poisoning. Docters told him to take it easy for a year or two and he decided to go on tour the NEXT WEEK.

Check out anything 93 or before for best results. Live in Tokyo is an awesome concert.

  • I'm going to see Dream Theater and Iron Maiden tonight at bluesfest in ottawa!

  • The golden age of John Petrucci, he was amazing at the time

  • @Simoto92 Yeah, these days he's reduced to 'just' God status

  • What it looks like they were under some bad weather that night!! Did you see the water...and the WIND?!?

  • there are Jordan on keyboard:)

  • Your right, but I know ernie balls are made to a WAY higher standard to Ibanez but I dont know maybe i just prefer the old Petrucci style/sound to now. I miss the way he played like the Rock Disipline/Awake/Falling Into Infinity era you know the early 90's

  • wow james was fat idid not know that

  • @onixtheone Wouldn't say that to his face. He'd hit an F# then hit your skull lol.

  • Great solo!!!

  • James laBrie Suckuuuus!!! the shame oftdream theater

  • from the sound of labrie's voice this is from the mid/late 90s?

  • dream theater is the best

  • Myung = Peaceful God

    Petrucci = Badass God

  • @miguelangelosantos Portnoy = Crazy like Hell DrumGod

  • Goddammit. During the bass solo, they can at least focus in on Myung for the entirety of it.

  • best era of dream theater...

I love so fucking much metropolis and falling in to infinity.

    cheers

  • Myung got the short end of the stick! His hair keeps getting blown in his face and Petrucci looks like a badass god of wind.

  • the key boards are near myung....this was when DT doesn´t have keys...

  • @rulipedo Nope, in that era Portnoy had a Mapex kit, while here he seems playing his Purple Monster, which was used in FII era. I can't see the artwork on the bass drum though...

  • wooooooooo im going to see DT in june!!!! i'm so giddy it's silly.

  • if i were to choose the new JPX signature model, or this JPM Picasso model, i wud defintely choose this..it's pure art!..great guitar! missin petrucci hangs this axe a long time now..

  • ibanez picassos are way better they play and sound better. in my opinion petrucci said he likes ernie balls better when i asked him in 07 but i think he was lying hahah

  • @f22turboaccord Idt he's lying. These new guitars sound sooo good, and are much more versatile. Especially when he plays big chords.

  • Petrucci looks f*ckin badass!!!

  • myung use ampeg cab !!!

  • Myung has been using Mesa amps + cabs since pretty much the beginning. Same goes for Petrucci.

(with the exception of the mid-late 80s when they were broke as hell)

  • I prefer Myung's mesa cabs, or direct to console!!!!

  • where is this? the crowd sounds so into it!!

  • 8:04 is epic. Johns with blowin hairs :P

  • it looks like his guitar was cutting out (he used to have major problems with that) then went to get it fixed but ran out of time lol so ein peck!

  • bad! petrucci fall and than run away

  • who at the keyboard?

  • I guess this is one of the first shows with Jordan Rudess, and one of the last ones where John Petrucci uses Ibanez.

  • this kicks so much ass...

  • where did Petrucci go during the last minute of the song?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • That's definitely Rudess on keys, he joined in January of '99. SFAM came out in October, so I'll guess it's before then, maybe a warmup tour?

  • lol must have been pretty windy on that night :P......still makes it look awesome by blowing everones hair around.

  • labrie's voice sounds rough :(

  • lol at the fuckups towards the end of the instrumental section hahaha

  • petrucci looks like Thor or some crazy badass god of the winds in this.

  • @edthehead83 xDD

  • @edthehead83 yeah ur right!but i was wondrin whos playing kbords in ds vid??u hav any idea???

  • @davesfire hmmm probably derek sherinian.

  • @edthehead83 I can't even here the keyboard maybe they are flying without one....

  • @GuillermoSmyser ok, it shows him from a far back shot. Gotta be Derek.

  • @edthehead83 looks like? he fucking is!

  • what tour is this because judging by portnoys hair its falling into infinity, but the keyboardist has long hair so it cant be derek sherinian, anyone know?

  • yeah it's Rudess on keys, I wonder if maybe they brought old gear to South America on the Metropolis part 2 tour like they usually do?

  • What in the world?

I was expecting really bad things reading the comments.

LaBrie wasn't that bad. He has a really hard time hitting the high notes. but that's expected. He pretty ruined his vocal chords a few years before this.

The sound quality doesn't help. It sounds like he's in a cardboard box. A little reverb and the beginning would have sounded real nice.

  • I agree totally with you, PorcupineFloyd68. Anyway, it isn't so easy to sing with that wind. I've seen Labrie 6 or 7 times in my life. He was ALWAYS the best on the stage. Incredible. And then, I support him. As i support my favourite football team ^_^ (also guitars don't sound good. I think the video has not a good setting)

  • You have no clue and no one cares about your comments.

  • I've heard almost all of their albums, the band is great the singer so so

  • Ofcourse the band is great...they're God's in their own right. But please take into account the fact that this 'great' band was on the brink of splitting up until James LaBrie came along...

  • lol ok. go ahead kid. give it a try.

  • Labrie sounds terrible in this interpretation

  • I know the music is always so good and you just wanna be swept away but then the singing starts and pulls you back to cold reality.

  • 7:40...Petrucci fucked up, hahah! Never heard him doin that in this song! :D

  • john petrucci looks metal in this vid :)

  • I feel honoured to have seen this live

  • I agree if I were you

  • The part where

"Before the leaves have fallen" Is rather very awkward because there's usually a beautiful keyboard riff that takes place there.

  • Petrucci screws up bad at the insane part :)

I have been to 7 Dream Theater concert. Yet I haven't listened Metropolis live completely from beginning to end. Once they mixed it up with Pull Me Under. But I don't like medleys like that. Just pick one song and play that one. I am also waiting for a live Erotomania. Let's hope for this until the next concert. :)

  • Erotomania has been playd loads of time this tour, so maybe this is the year for you :)

  • I saw them on Washington DC this summer. I knew that they played Erotomania frequently on this tour. But to my luck, they played other songs that day.

Btw, Zappa's kid was really good!

  • They played Erotomania when I saw them in Vegas on the 28th of August

  • una mierda el cantante

  • Sostengo lo mismo que vos, Labrie le baja el altisimo nivel a la banda.

  • yo sabia k no era el unico k pensaba eso la banda es exelente pero el cantante es una mierda

  • amazing both myung and petrucci, protnoy rocks... yeahhhh......

  • Comment removed

  • john petrucci luks awesome

  • 8:33 you can see a guy on keys to the left of Myung but theres no close up shots anywhere in the vid, so maybe its just some seesion guy they kept in the background

  • This was the first DT show Rudess played as an official member... it's not a session guy. ;)

  • great song

  • On youtube vid Funny Dream Theater Stuff!...at 3:33 Mike Portnoy says "Derrick wasn't playing with us either at that point...how else could that be because it was during COS album...there was a short time he was not with the band during that tour...they played quite a few shows just guitars and tracks.

  • faaaantaaaastic windy execution

  • i love dream theather but one thing i never understood is why they have so many more fans overseas than in america?

  • because most of us north americans can't appreciate amazing music like DT and that's why most american listen to mainstream shit.

  • Hey whats happens after minute 8:20 to the end of the song........petrucci break his guitar?????? no sound of guitar!!!!

  • We know that at some point during Falling Into Infinity Derrick Sherinian was asked to leave the band to make room for Jordan to join. Considering they first asked him to join DT during the Awake tour when he played a one off show with them. There was also a point when DT did not have a keys player at all, they did it all rock guitar style but that was for a very short time because they brought Jordan on quickly and were willing to pay loads if needed. Kevin was long gone by this point.

  • Yeah that rock guitar thing never happened. Dunno where you got that from.

  • Let me be very clear...yes that did happen...for a very short time...and that vid I mentioned proves that it did happen...it was for a very short time...watch commentaries and do your homework.

  • I'm not proud of this but I used to be the biggest DT fan ever and listened to every commentary, even read Lifting Shadows... so yeah. That never happened. Sorry. They never did any shows without a keyboardist.

  • You aren't disappointing me...I gave you video proof that it actually took place...if you didn't take the time to look at it for yourself (not my problem)...such a small occurrence would not be documented in Lifting Shadows...that is for more paramount happenings in DT history. Funny you have no sources to back up your position yet I have quite a few for mine. I never said they never had a keys player...they generally always have had a keys player...but it was a short time thing, watch the vid.

  • This Concert was filmed in Korea around 97-98...this may have actually been the first time that Dream Theater even went to Korea. These people had probably never heard Metropolis played live before so they were pretty psyched you can imagine. The Album was Falling Into Infinity...we know this because of Mike's Haircut, and John still playing his Ibanez model pre-Scenes. Though Liquid Tension had probably been recorded by this time in 97. It appears that Jordan Rudess is on keys, or a stand-in.

  • its kevin on keys i think, but not ruddess

  • But where is Mr. Ruddess? :(

  • well Petrucci is playing one of his Ibanez, which means that this was probably before Rudess joined

  • Where's this at? its windy as FUCK!
