dfw must've been acutely suspectible to the homunculus of his fat as existing outside his self and his thoughts. i forget where but there was interview, he listed the books he would recommend and one was prolegomena of any future metaphysics by kant. that's the one enterprise he engages in, making it a bare simulacrum of his true self, making that thing and absolute.
