This can get disconnected by a tie down - it's an easy mistake to make. There's no indication that this is the point of failure, so it's tough to spot.
What was annoying was that this little cable tends to get disconnected easily. I'm definitely not annoyed at the function of the interlock itself. It's quite useful... I wouldn't want to destroy my bike. Thanks for the comment.
It may be annoying but the safety switch on the clutch is there to operate in conjunction with the sidestand safety switch so that there's no chance of the bike rolling forward off the stand if you did start it in gear & weren't sitting on it. If the sidestand is up I believe the clutch safety switch becomes redundant i.e. if you push the starter the bike will start & if the bike is in gear it will move forward.
