Some people may say that Kempff's (or other's) is the best interpretation of this wonderful piece. I've been listening to many, many versions of the Tempest during the past year, but Barenboim's is the closest to my heart and the one I take inspiration of when I study it.

Existe algo mejor que esto? creo que después de ver este video, ya no se puede escuchar algo más; es impresionante, en mi opinión, Barenboim es el mejor intérprete de Beethoven que ha existido, al que le sigue Claudio Arrau.

Well, he plays better than me; that being said - I find this very choppy...he should've studied with H. Neuhaus! It's evident this piece is too much for his hands, as he struggles to get the music out amidst the notes...and the notes, unfortunately, this time have won.

@efitzger76 I think you underestimate this guy. As a first thought you could say: ok let's play the melody clearly like a singing left hand. But it's naive. Let's imagine you're in a storm, what's the purpose of this melody? What does it represent?

2) Pues incluyendo los recién fallecidos y los vivantes, hay 80 pianistas mejores del mundo, cada uno teniendo màs o menos su(s) especialidad(es); y con cada autor, grabados + o - buenos; y entre los mejores, movimientos + o - fallados, y en un mismo movimiento, algunas compases o notas de grande importancia que pueden cambiar la comprension de la obra por el pianista y pues nuestra opinion en él.

@tonycosworth El que no me entiende eres tu, que Barenboim sea el mejor actualemente interpretanto a Beethoven es una opinion mia y creo que generalizada. A lo largo de la historia de la musica ha habido maravillosos interpretes de Beethoven, y es cierto que tocar una nota o un compas de forma diferente cambia totalmente la obra, eso queda libre a la interpretacion del musico. Toda opinion es repetable. PD: insisto, como yo no entiento mucho y tu sabes tanto, escribe un libro y me lo firmas.

Does anybody know whether any great pianists play the allegro at the beginning of the first movement the way Beethoven wrote it, so that the tremolo is shared between the left and right hand? I've just done a spot check on Barenboim Schiff and Gould and find that none of them do.

I don't know what it says on the authograph score, if there is one. But you're quite right, bottom staff doesn't necessarily mean left hand: I've been misled by Craxton's editing and Tovey's comments in the Associated Board edition and, it would seem, making things unnecessarily difficult for myself for decades.

@defda94 Lo que hace un artista debe ser, no una reproducción, sino una producción. Además, ¿por qué han de seguirse textualmente las indicaciones? Es una reexpresión, de acuerdo al estado físico, mental y espiritual del INTÉRPRETE, no REPRODUCTOR. El debe interpretar el sentido de la música.

Barenboim is always great, although I prefer Kempff on this one. Daniel's specialty is the third movement of the famous Beethoven "Quasi una fantasia" sonata. To my mind, no one can play this better than Dani.

Surprising that you mention too slow for your taste- too me its actually not about the speed, its actually what he is trying to convey at this tempo which says a lot than playing at a faster tempo. Remember we have a giant in our midst. Barenboim does not do anything without thought.
