The latest silent hill game (I mean shattered memories) shoved that the game took a course that I didn't really like. Ok the whole psychology stuff is cool, but no weapons? What the hell was that? No bosses, no epic fights, only silly running. It made the game boring! Not hard, boring. I never killed every single enemy I didn't even do that in the previous Resident Evil games that's why they are... I mean... WERE survivor horror games. You had to be careful with what you had, not to waste it...

One meets good opinions about Shattered Memories, but the only thing that's mentioned as positive is the psychologycal analysis... if I wanted that I'd visit a doctor not play a game, thank you. This game should bring back the action from like SH 2 but stay belove SH 3 that was way too much... little blonde girls don't carry around arsenals, but a gun and a rifle is nice to have.

To be honest Silent Hill has changed a lot since the first 3, but that doesn't change the fact it's still Silent Hill, and it's always going to be Silent Hill. It has that aspect to it that's always worthy of respect. I understand that the game has changed from Psychological Thrillers that really tested the will of a person with their regrets and having to repent for what they've done, but the stories are still properly designed and there's nothing like a Silent Hill game, no matter what.

I think it's obvious what the plot twist might be... You play through the entire game and find out that you've been hallucinating on the bus the whole time! I bet that's it. XD;
@CrazyandDippie Yes, Yamaoka as been the music guy (not sound - music) for every Silent Hill until his recent departure from Konami and his hiring at Grasshopper Manufacture. He is now composing the music for their upcoming game. Silent Hill: Downpour will be the first game with music composed by Dan Licht. You can hear a sample of his work for the game in a related video.
looks like its lacking subtlety. everything looks obvious 'loud'. we already kno the main character, i went to jail iv got issues, see my stubble? and mad shotgun skills. this is a creepy room now its transforming into a creepy other world now theres a scary monster bla bla . these guys keep talking about 'moving forward' thats not the point of series you dont make good stories 'bigger' you get new ones. adding more guns and bigger monsters and 'cooler' main characters will kill this series.
So that's why they never improve...The new Konami team all thinks about of Silent Hill being "scary" but that's not the real nature of the game...Silent Hill's about people's regrets in their life's and the delusional karma turned monsters representing each and one of these people's regret..It's a game where the main character's lives/past is being driven...It's a game of history..SILENT HILL!..

silent hill homecoming was a disappointment. i have a feeling and hoping that downpour would actually be good. having water being a part of the storyline is smart. never seen rain before in silent hill
I've played SH3, 4, and Homecoming. They're all good, I had SH1 but I didn't like it, I've been around when the PS2s just came out and started playing video games but SH1 isn't as good as the new SH games that are out on PS2 and PS3. And SH isn't supposed to be an action game with a lot of guns or whatever, it's supposed to be a survival horror. RE is a good series but RE5 over did it, RE4 is much better. So hopefully they don't put a lot of action like they did with RE5 because it's not gonna

They're using the music from Dexter...well the composer who does the Dexter series...and I'm wondering how they do it. I actually like Dexter, so I'm hoping they don't mess it up. I truly hated Shattered Memories even though its a 'what if' game.
First of all, 'started' with Silent Hill 2? Lol. Granted while Silent Hill 2 is undoubtedly the best in the series, please don't call it 'way back'. Also, Homecoming was approx 15 times better than that shit game 'The Room'. I look forward to seeing what new developments arise in this one. Enjoy it for what it is..an awesome, slightly wonky mechanical survival horror puzzle masterpiece, for your gaming pleasure.
@hazelflame Homecoming was not scary at all... especially since you had the ability to completely own the enemies... and the story just dragged on throughout the entire first half of the game... The room was wayyyyy better...the hauntings were freaking scary...

@bobisawsome12345 Bob, if you are wanting to get into the series I would certainly recommend it, but you have to keep in mind that it is a very different kind of game then what you mentioned. You should just watch a few videos here on youtube of the other Silent Hill games, or games like Alan Wake and the Resident Evil series. These are all games that like to call themselves "survival horror", although Silent Hill has always been more of a "psychological horror" genre.
@bobisawsome12345 It is also a good idea to note that you do not need to know anything about the earlier games in the series to enjoy this one, it is both a completely separate story and will likely play differently. Its another plus if you wanted to pick this one up. But definitely watch some videos of the past Silent Hill games and other similar games too see if you'll be interested.

As someone who started with Silent Hill 2 way back, it really saddens me that the original core group who made the game so poetic, sad, and frightening, no longer makes the game. Now Akira Yamaoka is gone too. I hated Homecoming. Not that it was a bad game, just that the previous games were better. I'll miss the early days. SH2 is, to this day, the only game I ever played that made me tear up.

Four was good, and so where the first three and so was Homecoming, never played the other two how ever. and like a true fan, I am looking forward to dropping $60 for it when it comes out. I like how he mentions "new scarier music" when the 3rd game's music scared the living shit out of me... yeah trust me I'm not hating on this game, I just didn't think Homecoming was very scary, and I really hope this game can change my opinion on how the games are gradually getting worse. Asking old school silent hill fans to keep an open mind and at least try to enjoy the new direction the silent hill games are going is like trying to ask an ISTJ who's never tried sushi to try sushi... and like it.
What does it matter what the new main character looks like? I loved Akira Yamaoka and of course he'll always be the "OG" composer for the Silent Hill series, but I think it's awesome to give someone else a chance too and who better to fill the position than the composer for Hellraiser, even if it was Hellraiser 4?
And why are people bitching about the music. I think it sounds great. And plus it's just one piece of music for christ's sake. Can't even give Licht a good chance and people already want to criticize him.
The new composer is Daniel Licht. He's one of the best composers around And he's done more work than dexter. I've heard his work, so I'm not worried about the music. Vatra Games is czech aren't they? And didn't they create the highly underrated STALKER series? if so then I think it's in the right hands.
Well it looks like it will be based more around the originals at least. The newer Silent Hills that have come out weren't as good... I mean they were not bad games, but the kind of steered from the original idea of what silent hill was suppose to be about.
My personal favorite was Silent Hill 2 *-* Great game! But anyway... This looks like it might be good so I'll definitely give it a shot. (I do love my horror survivals.)

ive really tried to be opened minded about how they are taking this. silent hill homecoming was a bad start, origins was great, shattered memories was ok. this is just fucking bullshit. the town, its like resident evil 5 silent hill style. i have lost all faith in this series.
im not being immature...silent hill was a game trilogy in my view. 1 2 3 the rest are like taking those game cases and taking a shit on them...in fact that would be a less obvious / scarier and more emotional story and game experience than playing any of the games that followed...
I'm surprised the music sounds the way it does...rather lame, that is. Of course it's impossible to emulate Akira, but Daniel Licht actually did make some good music before. His work on Dexter is pretty good. But this right here is so shallow and sounds like just the score of the odd straight-to-DVD horror flick from the early-mid 00's. :/

The Japanese Konami are the fathers of this franchise. They do it waaaay better than this. As a strict fan of Silent hill, this american one sucks. Thats the real problem with this game. They're using the music from Dexter...well the composer who does the Dexter series...and I'm wondering how they do it. I actually like Dexter, so I'm hoping they don't mess it up. I truly hated Shattered Memories even though its a 'what if' game.

First of all, 'started' with Silent Hill 2? Lol. Granted while Silent Hill 2 is undoubtedly the best in the series, please don't call it 'way back'. Also, Homecoming was approx 15 times better than that shit game 'The Room'. I look forward to seeing what new developments arise in this one. Enjoy it for what it is..an awesome, slightly wonky mechanical survival horror puzzle masterpiece, for your gaming pleasure.

@bobisawsome12345 Bob, if you are wanting to get into the series I would certainly recommend it, but you have to keep in mind that it is a very different kind of game then what you mentioned. You should just watch a few videos here on youtube of the other Silent Hill games, or games like Alan Wake and the Resident Evil series. These are all games that like to call themselves "survival horror", although Silent Hill has always been more of a "psychological horror" genre.

@bobisawsome12345 It is also a good idea to note that you do not need to know anything about the earlier games in the series to enjoy this one, it is both a completely separate story and will likely play differently. Its another plus if you wanted to pick this one up. But definitely watch some videos of the past Silent Hill games and other similar games too see if you'll be interested.

As someone who started with Silent Hill 2 way back, it really saddens me that the original core group who made the game so poetic, sad, and frightening, no longer makes the game. Now Akira Yamaoka is gone too. I hated Homecoming. Not that it was a bad game, just that the previous games were better. I'll miss the early days. SH2 is, to this day, the only game I ever played that made me tear up.

Four was good, and so where the first three and so was Homecoming, never played the other two how ever. and like a true fan, I am looking forward to dropping $60 for it when it comes out. "omg the original team isnt making it anymore" boo hoo. What does it matter what the new main character looks like? I loved Akira Yamaoka and of course he'll always be the "OG" composer for the Silent Hill series, but I think it's awesome to give someone else a chance too and who better to fill the position than the composer for Hellraiser, even if it was Hellraiser 4?

The new composer is Daniel Licht. He's one of the best composers around And he's done more work than dexter. I've heard his work, so I'm not worried about the music. Vatra Games is czech aren't they? And didn't they create the highly underrated STALKER series? if so then I think it's in the right hands.

Well it looks like it will be based more around the originals at least. The newer Silent Hills that have come out weren't as good... I mean they were not bad games, but the kind of steered from the original idea of what silent hill was suppose to be about.
My personal favorite was Silent Hill 2 *-* Great game! But anyway... This looks like it might be good so I'll definitely give it a shot. (I do love my horror survivals.)

They thing about silent hill is the story being the way it is and having it being a great story. So what if the gameplay sucked. Doesnt mean the whole game or the story does too!!! ive really tried to be opened minded about how they are taking this. silent hill homecoming was a bad start, origins was great, shattered memories was ok. this is just fucking bullshit. the town, its like resident evil 5 silent hill style. i have lost all faith in this series.

It seems like every year after Silent Hill 3 they come out with another game and they STILL all have:
Mediocre graphics (that never seem to improve)
TERRIBLE voice acting and dialouge
The same few monsters, only slightly re-designed from the previous game
The main character is a copycat of the dude from the previous game
Short gameplay, sloppy/awkward/slow character movements
Stupid storyline
And it seems to get less and less "scary" and "shocking" every year...

I'm surprised the music sounds the way it does...rather lame, that is. Of course it's impossible to emulate Akira, but Daniel Licht actually did make some good music before. His work on Dexter is pretty good. But this right here is so shallow and sounds like just the score of the odd straight-to-DVD horror flick from the early-mid 00's. :/
Anyway these "cool guys" presenting it and the way they talk are just proof that this game will blow. Shame. Shattered Memories was a good take on SH imo.

The Japanese Konami are the fathers of this franchise. They do it waaaay better than this. As a strict fan of Silent hill, this american one sucks. Thats the real problem with this game. Americans like jumping into other foreign ideas and turn it into something else. It just wouldn't feel the same. The Japanese do it so well. They know how to draw and create American characters because basically, every SH character is American or caucassian, yet, it's from the minds of the Japanese. Leave it.

Why the hell isn't Akira Yamaoka or Mary Elizabeth McGlynn doing music for this? Instant fail. That pisses me off so much. Part of the ambiance was the wonderful voice talent of Mary and the ethereal pulsation of Akira's suites. The game WILL NOT feel the same without these two masterminds. Just fucking great. Thank you, good ol' corporatism - for ruining the best game music in history.
