Do you have to put a resistor on that or not? Or is the led already intended to take that voltage?

@gstmal509 When i modded my controller the led i used was intended for the voltage so i didnt need a resistor. I believe that the led was rated for i think 3.7 volts

hey i have the dualshock 3 controller model number CECHZC2A and the circuit board is mapped a little bit differently to yours, there is still the TP12 solder joint but it is up near the top right hand corner of the circuit board, will it still work if i solder it to that? cheers mate

If you have bothered to read the title, you should learn that the poster of this video modified their controller to make the PS button glow, and changed the LEDs from red to blue.

you gotta get 603 SMD's they are like 1 mm long and bwt 0.5 mm wide so are fukin so fiddley to solder on to the curcuitboard... wen i did mine it took me abwt 2-3 hours to do all 4!!! lol

I used 0805 SMD's. They're a little larger than the stock LED's, but they're a little easier to solder too and work just fine.

You need to make sure you still have proper clearance before putting the controller back together. If the LED is too big, or you mess up cutting the material, you can ruin the way the PS button moves.

Just de-solder the old ones, and solder blue ones in. That's easier to do than the PS button mod.

Blue LED's run at 3.6v. Red run at 2.2v. With the blue LED's running at 2.2, they draw less current than the red. Battery life is the same. It'll play for days on a single charge, almost 2 years after modding it.

The back of the button is black except where the "PS" is, so the light only shines through the PS since black absorbs light and white doesn't. Shine a flashlight through a black shirt and shine it through a white shirt & you'll get the idea.

the new ps3 slim should have shipped with all controllers like this! the glowing blue led and 4 numbered dots at the top are sweet! i also think sony should use the psp d pad in the dualshock 3 it would look nicer and probably be more sturdy but its not like the ps3 d-pad needs fixing it would just be for cosmetic purposes

I would agree, but:

The Xbox 360 controllers are more ergonomic than the PS3's, but the buttons are childish. The battery wins for ps3 I have big hands and I don't like how the battery pack blocks the back of the controller I cant stretch my fingers. And all you need is 2 controllers one to charge while you play and when that one dies switch them I dont want to go looking for some AA's and cause trash with the old ones
