  • did I miss the Yachts? is this a smart part of America?

  • what salton sea need is few casino ... killed all the run off sewage and fertilizer ... it will be revive to former glory .. this place use to be the most beautiful place in California

  • It looks like they stuck close to the original plans of the place, I give it fourteen out of a scale of one to ten!

  • WOW! What difference! Now if we could get somebody started on Detroit.

  • I don't think Mr. Frey indicated drop ceilings in the original. They should be sheetrock. Glad to see this saved though … and against all odds.

  • i bet it still cost a lot of money to get in there though.

  • Looks amazing. :) But no more "ROFLCOPTER" on the second floor. hahahahahaha

  • Hard to believe they actually restored this place. I took a ton of pictures here in 2007 when it still said "Aces & Spades" above the boarded up entrance. Looks like the pool is gone now too.

  • Thanks for the video. What a great rebound!

  • good thing the cops were there...looks like a rough crowd

  • @buffaloborn71 LOL :D

  • The New River is a toxic inflow to the salton sea. Are they going to clean up the river and make industry pay for the pollution they cause?

I don't see a future for the salton basin unless water management is improved. The toxicity of the lake will just keep rising. Already it is a no go area for most people.

  • @telemetry9 The ultimate plan is the dig a canal to bring clean ocean water to the Salton Sea. Such a project would be a big task, but would quickly pay off in property tax revenue once the lake is cleaned up and the shore is redeveloped. Renovating the Yacht Club is a first step in attracting the attention of developers and investors. The Salton Sea was once a very popular area for recreation - and it could be again someday.

  • My heart goes out to the people who live along the shoreline. Bringing ocean water in is questionable. Unless there is an equal exit for the mass of crystalline salt waters that are concentrating. Pumping ocean water in is only possible to the shore line level and then what? Still left with all that salinity. The New River is a major culprit in increasing mineral deposits to the lake - it is basically a septic and toxic flow of hepatitis/polio/typhoid and chemical others.

  • @telemetry9 There have have also been talks of using some cutting-edge solar-powered desalination. From what I've heard from the local experts at the museum, the heath department (I forgot exactly which agency) apparently classifies the water at the Salton Sea to be as safe to swim in as most beaches in So Cal.

  • The new exhibition centre is an anchronism to me. A shiny new building with big ambitions but the main culprit is unchallenged. The new river is a health hazard to everybody and to the salton sea most of all. It would have been better to spend that money on creating wetlands and alternate catchment pools before the new river reaches the salton. This has been achieved with the las vegas wash and helps absorb pollutants before they reach a lake source. Now that would be long term thinking.

  • @telemetry9 Hopefully a plan to clean up the lake will actually be implemented sometime in the near future. The Salton Sea could be an investment opportunity: buy up the cheap land around the lake, fix the lake, then redevelop it. Of course, it's going to take a LOT more time and money than flipping a home.

  • This is crazy ! Why the hell did they restore this place when the whole area surrounding the sea is a total Shithole! Ecological disaster.. I'm so confused! Wonder why Cali is in major debt!

  • @Fonzi79 The eventual plan is the actually dig a canal to bring clean ocean water into the lake. Once that happens, the Salton Sea will again be a happening place - and attract redevelopment and resulting tax revenue.

  • Bringing ocean water into the sea won't help. It was the colorado river that created the salton sea. The area is filled with crystalline salts from previous salton seas that then evaporated. The entire salton basin was formed by the colorado and the amazing sediment it deposits. This can no longer occur because every drop of colorado river water is used (wastefully). 90% in america - 10% in mexico. The river no longer reaches the sea. The delta has effectively died. Sediment is key.

  • Huell Howser's going to have to update his episode on Salton Sea.

  • @muziktrkr Indeed.

  • who and why did they spend money there 1st yes its nice but if theres no more toxic water coming in from the farms wont it be to dusty and stinky to hang out in there let alone clean up the mess outside .. was that paid for by the funds thats going to clean up the toxic muck
